The Wrestling Thread Ended Itself Early Because of a Dislocated Finger. - - Part 112

I have an issue with the acronym WWE. "World Wrestling Entertainment"? I mean, I get that it's entertainment, we all get that it's entertainment. But WWF absorbed WCW and ECW for crying out loud. If they were gonna go for the "WWE" acronym, wouldn't, I dunno, World Wrestling Empire better encapsulate their growth since the Invasion?

Just general ramblings.

I don't mind the name. They were always using the term sports entertainment.

I just hate the logo since the "Get the F out" days. It's the same Attitude Era logo with no F on the end. I can't believe they've yet to change it. They probably never will now that it's dead center and humungous on their new championship belt.

The reaction of a lot of members of this thread in regards to the latest Rock news:

Which is a shame because with the right business approach, JCP could have really taken off with Magnum as their top guy. They already had a great product and a good bit of Star Power with Flair, Sting, The Road Warriors, The 4 Horseman, The Rock N Roll Express, Terry Funk, Lex Luger, Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race etc. and possibly never would have ran into the Incompetence levels of the various idiots that were put in charge of WCW's booking in the 90s.

As for Magnum, that guy just had a Machismo aspect about him that not many modern wrestlers have today...Bonafide star

Even though I live in the northeast, I was always more of a JCP guy than a WWF guy. I enjoyed both products, but preferred JCP's more "realistic" approach to the cartoony nature of the Rock-N-Wrestling era.

Magnum definitely had all the tools. He and Flair would have more than likely traded the belt a few times. Imagine a War Games match with Magnum, Dusty, Sting and Luger vs. Flair, Arn, Tully and Windham! Or, the eventual feud between the "man's man" Magnum T.A. and the pretty boy Lex Luger.

If he never jumped to the WWF, and remained with the company as it transitioned into WCW, it's possible that Magnum would have still been around to participate in the NWO angle (assuming history still unfolded that way). I was surprised to find out that Magnum is actually a few months younger than Sting!

I will always prefer "WWF" to "WWE."

Magnum would have been WCW all the way against the NWO.

I'm hoping RVD doesn't beat Del Rio for the title so that Dolph can get the title back.

The World Heavyweight Championship should be eliminated, because I dislike having two world heavyweight titles. It just defeats the purpose. A world championship is supposed to symbolize the best wrestler in the company, so having two doesn't make sense. I know they're not on equal footing, but they do refer to cumulative numbers of world championships. The Intercontinental title could take the place of the World Heavyweight Championship, and the United States title would stay where it is.

Also, should he be inducted in the the WWE Hall of Fame for 2014?

If he actually shows up in a WWE ring, this guy:

If not then:

Yes if he retires:

Highly unlikely but who knows (he would be my dream inductee):

I agree. The WHC is way bigger than the actual #1 title and better looking too. The new WWE title has grown on me a bit but it's not the greatest design. I'd love to see the IC title go back to being the #2 title for the promotion.

Dude if JCP was already kicking WWF's ass during that time quality wise, it would have been that much more awesome with said War Games match you suggested. I wish WWE would air old JCP episodes on Hulu.

Matter of fact, I wonder why doesn't WWE just release full episodes from WCW, JCP, ECW and previous WWE/F eras' televised programming? I don't see why they don't see money in that. They could easily capitalize on old school fans that say they miss the old days since Hulu is a very viable market to begin with and WWE already has programming on it.

Were probably saving them for when they were still planning to launch the WWE Network. Now that there's little chance of that happening, unless Vince still wants it to happen one day, they could move on to other means.

The reason I think it would be good idea though is because WWE always throws a fit when someone uploads episodes of programming on YouTube or Dailymotion but never release full episodes of their televised programming.

The WWE Championship is NOT a world championship. There, I said it!! :argh:

So anyway, which product were you guys enjoying more in the 80s - Jim Crockett Promotions or WWF's Rock N Wrestling Era?

Both had solid midcard and tag team divisions but I personally prefer the main event scene of JCP. The roster was pretty stacked at both companies though.

I only ever watched WWF until 1995. I knew of WCW, but never really saw it on a regular basis because TBS was always 5 minutes later than anyone else and I could never keep track of anything on that silly channel.

I was born in 1989 man. :( But, I really wish I was around to watch wrestling during those times.

If I ever get the chance to travel through time...

Well, WWE does offer old episodes of JCP and more to those who subscribe to WWE Classics on Demand. I'm not a subscriber, so I too would like another way to view them and relive some old memories, such as Hulu or Netflix.

I read somewhere that if the WWE Network gets off the ground at some point, it won't be what we think it will be. Instead of constant wrestling programming, it will be a lot more "reality" shows, like Total Divas, with the wrestling-oriented stuff kept to a minimum.

RE: the world heavyweight championship. I would hate to see it go, as it is a reflection of the belt that meant the most to me as a young wrestling fan back in the day. Is it given second-tier status these days? Yes...but that's because of how it's booked and who is wearing it. Remember when Triple H had the world championship, and JBL had the WWE championship? Which title seemed more important then? I guarantee that if Cena returns and they put the world belt on him, it wouldn't look so much like a secondary title anymore. If they booked Punk or Brock to win the world title, either one would automatically elevate it due to their status. But, because WWE has Del Rio as the current world champ, and he defends it primarily on Smackdown and never appears in the last match of a ppv, it feels like the I-C or U.S. title. Not only that, but they had a bunch of up-and-comers contend for the world heavyweight championship contract during Money In The Bank. Fun match, but terrible booking IF you want to make the title seem important.

The WWE title is clearly the focus now and, to be fair, it should be. It's been in existence since 1963, as opposed to the World Heavyweight Championship, which will only be 13 years old in another week or so. Even if they somehow transferred the heritage of the WCW world championship to this belt, that still only goes back to 1991.

That being said, I wouldn't be completely opposed to seeing a unified world champion, and an elevation of both the Intercontinental and United States titles. The I-C title in particular should be prestigious enough to headline WWE's secondary touring group.

It was a great era to be a fan. Not just the WWF and the NWA/Jim Crockett, but also the AWA, WCCW, Mid South/UWF...great variety! And no internet to spoil things, so when wrestlers moved from one company/territory and showed up in another, it was a legitimate surprise. Good times, good times!

It still doesn't make the WWE Championship a world championship :o Agree with everything else though
