I hope I'm not a bug but I must ask again.....

Do people like Vince think fans should be ashamed for actually liking PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING?

I mean why have a commercial where a "fan" arrogantly claims "I'm not a wrestling fan, Im a WWE fan?"
Maybe in his mind, "wrestling" is the old way the story was told, while "WWE" is the new way of telling the stories?

I'm shocked Vince hasn't changed the name of "Wrestlemania" to "WWE 'Mania 20XX"

Didn't he want to make WWE World Wide Entertainment not long ago?

Interesting point. You'd think SHH active membership would be at an all-time high, considering the amount of genre content that is not only out there now, but will be released over the next 5 years. Between films, TV series, event comic book series, animation, etc., The Hype should be jumping more than ever!

But wrestling fans? You're right...we're a niche market, even among nerdom.

I always assumed the uprise of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, comment sections etc. kind of limited the need for joining "old school" forums such as these. But what do I know?

Personally I prefer this thread for live shows/PPV's than I do anywhere else because it's smaller and more intimate. You're voice and opinion is recognized more often compared to the clusterf**k at other sites where there's thousands of people posting at once. Those other places I feel like I'm just typing. Here I'm responding back and forth with other people and getting into nice healthy debates. There's rarely any problems here which is why it's the best thread on the Hype.

** SPOILERS ** WWE SmackDown Results For This Week 4/9/15

Thanks to Knuckleball Wilson for the following WWE SmackDown spoilers from tonight's tapings in Dallas, Texas:

* JoJo from NXT is doing ring announcing. She gets a pop after an intro from Jerry Lawler.

* Tonight's match with Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus and Bad News Barrett has been changed to Bryan, Ziggler and Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus, Barrett and Big Show. It will be the main event. Bryan started off in the ring talking about what happened last Thursday night. He was interrupted by Sheamus and Barrett but Ziggler made the save. Big Show attacks Ziggler and then Reigns makes the save. That sets up the six-man for later. It was said that Reigns got the biggest pop but Bryan was very close.

* The New Day comes out with a mic and they get booed. "New Day sucks" chants start up when Big E takes the mic. WWE Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Tyson Kidd come out with Natalya to somewhat of a pop. They get the win in a good tag match. The heat for The New Day is definitely there now.

* Curtis Axel comes out to a good reaction for Axelmania. Neville is out next to a big pop and the NXT chants start up. Neville gets the with Red Arrow and was over.

* Backstage segment with Natalya, Alicia Fox and Cameron to set up a match. Alicia disrespected Natalya in the locker room and Natalya is upset.

* Natalya defeated Alicia Fox with Cameron as special referee. Natalya beat down Fox for disrespecting her earlier. Cameron laid them both out after the match.

* Bray Wyatt vs. Erick Rowan is next. The arena lit up as Wyatt made his entrance. He cut a promo but got the "what?" treatment from a lot of the crowd at one point. Wyatt won what was said to be a good physical match but Wyatt won easily.

* The Miz comes out for Miz TV with Summer Rae. Damien Sandow interrupts and gets a pop after faking a handshake. Sandow looks to apologize to Miz but ends up knocking Miz down and then out of the ring. He grabs Summer and kisses her to a big pop. She seems to enjoy it and the fans definitely did.

* Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler defeated Big Show, Sheamus and Bad News Barrett. The heel controlled most of the match until Reigns got the big tag. The crowd went nuts after Reigns came in. The babyfaces got the upperhand and cleared the ring. Reigns hit a spear on Barrett for the pin.

Didn't he want to make WWE World Wide Entertainment not long ago?

I believe so, but they ended up just dropping WWE being an acronym for "World Wrestling Entertainment", and rebranding it to just the letters "WWE".

The funny thing is the reasons to be "ashamed" of professional wrestling have mostly come from Vince's presentation of wrestling as a 3 ring circus yet he thinks telling fans that only watching this same company is a badge of honor is marketing genius of some kind.

Rollins is so great but it's a shame his reign already feels like it is suffocating under the tired authority storyline. It kind of feels like they have been telling the same story for so long now that they don't know of any other way to fill three hours a week.

Yeah, I have a feeling Neville is going to be the "new Christian" in Vince's eyes, i.e. his new "blue circle" guy. I honestly think Vince still pines for that World Bodybuilding Federation he once had.

Neville is more swoll than Christian was. Neville has the physique Vince likes. Neville is foreign, not a pretty boy and high flier which are things Vince probably don't like about him.

Agreed. It really might be the only story they know.

I can't think of many wrestlers who won the WWE Title in the Main event at Wrestlemania within recent years where they reign as new Champion was handled smoothly afterwards. Unless you're John Cena, Triple H, or Undertaker....you didn't enjoy a good reign as Champion after winning the main event at Mania.

Batista.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. DDP deserves a massive amount of recognition for what he has done for Scott Hall. That bump was one of the best parts of Wrestlemania, honestly.

Wait. I dont get it. What does ddp have to do with scott hall's wrestlemania bump?

Because the guy could barely move before DDP rehabbed him.

Oh right. Ddp's a yoga guy now right?

As soon as i saw scott hall attempt the move, i was sure that he wont be able to do it.

It was DDP in a Scott Hall mask. He only did it so he could get near Sara.

Im so out of the loop with wrestling that i dont even know who sara is.

I was just trolling man, it was a callback to the DDP stalker storyline from the Invasion in 2001. Sara being Taker's ex-wife.

I knew you were trolling. I just dont know what you were trolling about.:oldrazz: i didnt watch wwe from 2000 to 2012 and only really got back to it after watching wrestlemania 2 years ago

At first, "Oh, cool, alright...Paige lookin' cute as always..."

Then I notice her attire...:hmr:

I'm glad she's okay and proud of her body...because I am too.:woot:

Apparently she's actually been taking training pretty seriously.

Good because she needs too. All the divas should. I don't hate her like so many others do (though the more I see of that "Total Divas" show the more I want to send those girls directly into a volcano) but I have no reason to really like her either. She's just there sometimes.

I agree in general. Participation in the wrestling thread has been down during Raw not just last night but for a while now. It's sad considering how consistently hot this thread had been over the years. There's no doubt it's a reflection of the poor creative decisions Vince & co have made over the past year-plus.

I'll give them a slight pass for not being able to generate interest here in the thread last night, though. Raw was up against the NCAA Men's Basketball championship game here in the States, which scored a 17.1 in the overnight ratings (the highest rated NCAA Men's basketball title game in 18 years). It was an entertaining game that I'm sure grabbed a portion of Raw's normal audience.

This was a thread that would be burned through weekly, some Raw's almost ate up a whole one on it's own with multiple title threat changes. Now the same one with the same title can stay in place for weeks.

It's amazing the impact the extremely poor product has on discussions. I am used to logging in on Tuesday mornings and seeing that there are 15+ pages of discussion I catch up on.....now its about 5 or 6.

Without a doubt, the change in interest is so extreme, during Raw it was hard to keep up with posts as everyone was posting so often, but now it's at a snails pace.

I hope I'm not a bug but I must ask again.....

I'll answer this here as I don't have an account at the site you linked to.

I think Vince's message behind this stupid advert is that WWE is bigger than wrestling and also taking a shot at the fans who seem to care about the wrestling aspect of the product not just whether the guy might look good on the cover of some bodybuilding or fitness magazine.

It's just more of Vince trying to assert his will over fans as if everyone is going to buy into this as some sort of deluded mindwipe.

Damn Paige! subtle cleavage greatness. :hmr:
