WWE star C.M. Punk appeared on "The MMA Hour" with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com on Monday. The following are the highlights of the appearance.

-Helwani introduced Punk and noted that he received a lot of heat for having him on as a guest because some people don't want any crossover. Punk noted that pro wrestlers are doing submission holds they've picked up for MMA, and noted that Alberto Del Rio fought Mirko CroCop.

-Helwani mentioned Triple H's comments about UFC needing to evolve more than WWE. "I think that's absolutely insane," Punk said. He said every sport or business needs to evolve. "Pro wrestling has, in my opinion, a lot of work to do," Punk said. He said he's spoken with Triple H numerous times about MMA. "He just doesn't get it," Punk said. "He doesn't watch it either. I think it's just an education thing. Saying UFC has to evolve, I guess he's not wrong, but he's missing the big picture that UFC is evolving."

-Punk was asked whether MMA has hurt the pro wrestling business. "Well, it hasn't helped," he said. "To deny that UFC isn't our competition is ridiculous." He added that everything from Cirque du Soleil to television shows such as "Breaking Bad" are competition to WWE.

-Helwani asked whether it surprises Punk that WWE hasn't looked at MMA to see things they can emulate. Punk said he's a wrestling guy and he believes it is a sport. "I'm a fan," Punk said. "I would love to see clean finishes, less run-ins, and I'd like to see wins and losses matter... Those are things that are based in reality." He questioned why guys get title shots time after time when they are losing. He said there are certain things that could be tightened up in that regard.

-Punk said some days are better than others when it comes to travel. He said some top guys have busses they travel in. He said he's getting to the point where he's considering that possibility. He said he enjoys traveling and the challenge of living on the road, but he said he would like to be at home for six months just to see what it was like. He added that he would probably go nuts seven days in.

-Punk said he became an MMA fan early on going back to the first or second UFC event. He said he and his friend were hooked. He said Dan Henderson is probably his favorite wrestler.

-Punk said the last UFC event he watched live was Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez. He said he doesn't go out to find the shows when he's on the road. He said he despises Hooters, and doesn't think it would end well if a pro wrestler went to watch an MMA show with drunk people who want to prove something in the room.

-Punk was asked about the Brock Lesnar and Undertaker confrontation. He said he thinks he knows more about that situation than most people. He thought it was fantastic that two guys could exchange a glance at get the sports world talking. Punk said Dana White will never allow Brock Lesnar to get a WrestleMania payday while he's under UFC contract.

-Helwani asked Punk who he will face at WrestleMania 28. Punk said he doesn't know who he will face tonight on Raw because things change every three minutes. Punk said he would like to face Steve Austin, and joked that Austin would never duck a challenge. "As far as who I am actually wrestling

That post with all the links wasn't showing up for me earlier. The only problem I have with you Nell, is that sometimes you seem like you think there is an indie bias here and you also seem to think we're all a bunch of indie smarks.

Yeah that's what I don't get, the indie thing and the IWC thing. I'll tell you this though I'll a hundred Nell's over just one of some of the posters out of this thread.

When in reality the only guy from the indies that most of us rally behind is CM Punk. And it's not because he's from the indies, it's because he's good and one of the best well rounded talents in the business, if not the best right now.

That's fine but it gets rather obnoxious when Metallo follows me around and jumps on me for liking The Miz everytime he addresses me, and THE MOMENT I say that the CM Punk thing is getting old everyone jumps on me saying my opinion is invalid, I'm a hypocrite, and I'm just getting bored of CM Punk because I have Triple H blinders on.

I only "jump" on you by disagreeing with you when what you say doesn't sound rationale in the slightest. Somebody disagrees with you and suddenly people are jumping on you?

Seems like you just come in here and post some of this stuff to be abrasive. You call us all IWC marks and complain about us then you STILL come back to rub stuff in peoples faces.

People post THEIR opinions on something and when you don't like what you hear you come in here complaining "this is why I don't like the IWC!" But then when people criticize YOUR opinion you complain and say they don't have a right. You're a hypocrite.

Then you talk about how you get treated on other forums and tar people here with the same brush expecting it before it even happens.

There was that time somebody was saying what THEY thought about Kelly Kelly or one of the divas then you have the gall to single them out and disagree with their OWN PERSONAL OPINION when you constantly b**** about people doing the same to you. THAT is a hypocrite.

What rubs people the wrong way is your CONSTANT remarks about how Punk has to "prove" it to you all the time. Minute by minute jumping of hurdles. You are LOOKING for a reason to dislike the guy otherwise you wouldn't even be thinking like that that. Never heard you say that about the Miz. Stuff like "C'mon Miz, now keep PROVING it to me." It was CONSTANT.

Its a ridiculous double standard to have one guy jumping through personal hurdles every week then come here and B**** about it. Why do you feel the need to B**** to us about what you don't like? You can do that anywhere? Why do you think we need to hear YOU saying he needs to prove it to you? The only person that needs that is you not us.

it'd be one thing if you were conversing with someone else on the matter but you aren't. you just randomly post it I guess just so you can see yourself type it out. Who comes to a message board to talk to themselves? You just want other people to SEE it but you don't want to discuss it.

You call people members of the IWC like its a derogatory thing how do you expect people to react? You talk about how you hate it so WTF are you doing here?

You don't like people "jumping all over you" (disagreeing) and yet you see nothing wrong with complaining about the people here and turning your nose up at them with some snide backhanded remarks? You say you don't like what some say because we're "indie" fans. I'm a WWE fan from WAY back. Watched more of it than any other proomotion. Hogan was my wrestling hero growing up. Its as far from "indie" as you can get. And even if some people here are indie fans so what? You know people here love WWE and have followed it for years and yet you still label them with that "indie fan" tag just to insult them or belittle them.

The "woe is me/I'm a victim!" act is getting old. Other people disagree all the time and don't play that picked on bullsh** card they way you constantly do.

to the average or casual fan....the IWC look like a bunch of angry people...there has always been this attitude from them...that only THEIR opinion matters because theyve spent YEARS watching this fed and that fed and tape trading and hanging out in bingo halls that smell like pee

One aspect as to why CM Punk is so much more interesting to watch than the Miz, for me personally, is his wrestling ability.

Now Nell says that he cares more about the story than the wrestling. But ultimately, they both have to go hand in hand. The wrestling is the payoff. The payoff to the storyline happens inside the ring.

Triple H and CM Punk told a great story inside the ring at NOC and its their experience inside the ring and the wrestling ability that allows them to do that. Miz could never be as interesting then, because his wrestling isn't anywhere near that standard.

Punk also has a real sense of freedom about him when he talks.

I don't understand this point that CM Punk has gotten everything he's wanted and should be content.

Storyline wise, Punk is just supposed to forget that he doesn't trust Triple H? And part of Punk's thing is it isn't just about him.

so much anger... the hype needs its own hell in a cell event

And if you want to talk about holes that are going on in wrestling angles, there are much bigger holes in Miz and Truth's crusade against the conspiracy.

They've been in matches against Punk, and have attacked Punk, when obviously Punk is another victim of the conspiracy. It doesn't make sense for them to take it out on Punk.

Except Nell is no casual fan. He's on a Superhero websites message board posting in a wrestling thread that I doubt most casual fans even know exist. He's an "IWC" guy just like everybody else. Just has different tastes. If he wasn't he'd have better things to do than jump on his computer and complaining about wrestling. THAT is what the IWC does. :funny:

I just find it insulting because I've been watching WWE since 1991, and usually only check out indie guys after they sign with WWE. I watch their matches on youtube to get familiar with them, I've been watching ROH the past few months because it starts airing on MyRDC soon, but I don't follow any other indies.

I haven't been posting as long as the rest of you and even I find Nell's posts grating.

In my opinion its hypocrisy. He's the one that's the smark, the one who can't stand criticism towards his opinion, but he's trying to shift that onto everyone else.

is a guy who has main evented last 3 ppvs with 2 wins over cena and is a 4 time wwe champ really a victim of the conspiracy lol

Purely from a storyline perspective, he's been repeatedly screwed out of the championship. It's the most coveted prize, being screwed out of it should be infuriating even if the championship's been won before.

I know how you feel. Its such an arrogant assumption to for someone to say just because someone likes CM Punk they MUST be an indie fan/smark like they know it for a fact.

Nells a guy who likes to pigeonhole others and question their tastes, opinions and viewing habits but when someone does it to HIM? Whoa Whoa WHOA!?:fst:

I wanna be the ref for Metallo vs Nell in a loser leaves the wrestling thread hell in a cell match.

Everyone else here should be lumberjacks. THAT would be interesting. :funny: NDX would probably bring the Fuji bag of salt and throw it RIGHT in my eyes AFTER the match is over!

I explained why my favorites don't do the same, and why their angles work for me. It was you that decided that wasn't good enough and proceeded to insult me and my opinions because I'm not proclaiming CM Punk as the greatest thing to happen to wrestling.

Oh stop that crap, I don't care if you hate Punk, SK isn't a fan either but you don't see him whinging every time someone counterpoints him. the problem with you Nell is you were exposed and didn't like it, you can write all the long ass posts you want but the bottom line is you have one rule for some guys and another for others, which is the definition of hypocrisy, like it or not.

You love to be abrasive when you shove your points at people but when a few respond you play victim, it's really simple, this thread is a community within a community as venom said, if you can't handle people calling you on things you say, then it's gonna be tough for you always.

Probably not to good (about HHH) since working with him did nothing for Orton and anything Orton accomplished was in SPITE of HHH. Punks been well protected while Orton got fed to the King of Noses, his 40 year old brother in law, and his senior citizen father in law. Thats got to sting since everyone there has always acted like Orton was one of the golden boys. I can understand if it was the younger Orton who needed his ego in check but by WM25 he seems to have had his life straightened out and was working hard.

Makes me understand why Edge ASKED to go to Smackdown when HHH came back from his last wheel blowout :funny:

Oh how I hated the WM25 build up. :( The only time Orton has ever looked good working with Triple H is the LMS match they had in 2007.

Heh! Edge always was smart, even though Triple H made him "Job on the way out" :whatever: I am still sure HBK whiffed that superkick on purpose.

It was nice to see BatOrton do a CLEAN job to a guy who who has been working hard to get better over the last few years and technically has seniority over him. Its not something HHH is particularly known for.

That is the most surprising clean job I have ever seen, makes you wonder what the plan is for Orton.....of course it could just be to win the belt back at HITC, but I get a feeling they may be building Mark for Taker's return.

Hahaha, I was thinking about Wrestlemania 25 when I read about the Punk/HHH brawl too.

You need to see that match man ASAP! As Flair and Piper said, Orton vs Triple H at Mania 25 was not the match that fitted the angle they have built.

I plan on lying under the ring awaiting the right moment to strike.

Wait... Maybe I shouldn't have typed that out loud. :p

If we want to get technical... Punk has had to put up with YEARS of crap. A few wins won't make up for that.

Am I allowed to post a youtube video showing the end of the Mark Heny vs Orton match?

I don't either beyond EVOLVE or DragonGate USA. Most of my wrestling airtime has been WWE.

I've never said a guy should be pushed because he's an indie star. I care about talent. Only maybe a handful of guys have ever shown me that they've got what it takes to make it to the top. And out of them, Punk was at the top of the list. What's happening now is him getting his due, and WWE getting some much needed fresh air in the main-event scene.

I'd love to see others make it too, indie or not. In fact, I've been asking myself, "Who's next?" And sadly I'm drawing a blank.

yes...they do

I try and not complain....there are things I like and things I don't like, but I don't get all ******** about it

ok a few things, like the Miz, but mostly I try to keep it level
