Cable being at Marvel never made sense to me....he's never been more than an X-Man/mutant (at the time of the contract). MS doesn't even get to use his nemesis Apocalypse. It would be like having Xavier but he can't be a mutant and you can't use Magneto.

Wait, so Liefeld has been acting like he's in the know all this time, yet he's just now talking to Wadlow after he's been announced to write? So much for being involved!

I think he meant he was aware they were interested in making a film. His first posts sounded pretty sketchy on if he even thought it would be made. He didn't seem to know about Wadlow writing, or claim to know a Writer was chosen.

But yeah, who knows. I'm sure he has had previous meetings with Fox, but I would be shocked if he was ever involved in any way.

Or they could just use Yost's X-Force wet works incarnation.

As much as I love Cable, in the wrong hands he's nothing more than a deus ex machina considering the scope of his power set.

Please no. That series was pretty much nothing but a kill fest. No thank you.

Plus, I don't understand why so many people are saying this has to be a Wolverine set up, because Jackman has already stated that he's thinking of cutting back on being Wolverine. Adding yet another franchise starring him after the main ones and his solos? I don't think so.

It might be a case where they sold the rights of Cable to a different studio than Fox and when the rights reverted they came back to Marvel as well...although that would imply Marvel has the rights to Deadpool.

Honestly, I don't see how they have the rights to Cable either. It's not even like with the Maximoffs where they were in Avengers comics for decades.

Shouldn't this have its own section by now? I mean, there's a Justice League section and that movie doesn't even exist.

good point :D

maybe once Fox announce it next week, one of the administrators will do it. Or any user could ask them for

This contract thing is confusing, does Fox own every mutant character that there exists? Can Marvel use any mutant as long as they appeared out-side X-men comics at some point? Of course they can't say that they are mutants or reference the X-Men. My guess is that Fox owns everything X related, but have exclusive rights to some characters that can't be used by Marvel, even if they appeared in books outside X-men. Guys like Wolverine who has appeared in other books outside X-Men could be an example of this. Perhaps Cable isn't exclusively linked to Fox, like Quicksilver, Wanda, or Viper but both companies can use them. It's just a matter of fitting the characters into their universe. Marvel doesn't have much a reason to include Cable into their universe right now, but Fox does.

That's because contracts, and copyright issues aren't that simple. The different studios have infinite documents of the characters they own, the way they own them, if they have exclusive rights, when they'll expire, etc.
I don't know about Cable, but Deadpool for example, was first set up at Artisan Entertainment (which had made a big deal with Marvel to bring a handful of their characters to the big screen), then went to New Line Cinema, where David S. Goyer wanted to make the movie with Ryan Reynolds, and by the time the "Wolverine" spin-off was made, was picked up by Fox.
You'd have to have access to their documents to exactly know what's going on with the film rights for every Marvel character.

P.S.: Personally, I think that was just a typo in the article about Marvel Studios, and they included Cable by mistake. Or there was confusion about who owned the film rights. I'd bet the rights are exclusively at Fox now.

I've been waiting for the Spin-Offs to focus on other X-Teams...so I'm excited for this...(although I'm much more of an X-Factor guy.)

Can't wait for any more news and especially what take of the team will be used...Probably an amalgamation of various X-Forces---if they went current/modern, I wouldn't mind the modern X-Force minus Logan.

yeah I don't think Disney owns Cable since he is a mutant and has never been associated with anything other than X-Men. I do wonder how they will explain his origins.

While fans may be cautious that Jackman's sixth and seventh appearances as Wolverine could be his last, Jackman stresses that he's still having a great time. "I'm really kind of loving it more than ever. Right now I'm filming ['X-Men: Days of Future Past'] and I'm loving it. I'm loving playing the character, being back with the old gang, working with the new gang. It's so exciting... It's a rare thing to play a character seven times, and it's an even rarer thing to feel that scripts and opportunities are better than ever."

When asked if he could foresee handing over the claws, Jackman got very proprietary. "I'm not ready to say yet that I'm done."

Great news. Can't wait to see Cable, Domino, Deadpool & the rest show the other side of the X-Men.

Wow! This is great news! Now there's so much potential to see characters I never thought would appear in an X-men movie. X-Force has a rich history with lots of characters and story lines to pull from. I hope they take inspiration from all of the iteration of X-force since the 90s. To name a few, I'd like to see Cable, Domino, Deadpool, Psylocke, Fantomex, Cannonball, and maybe even someone like Mystique to draw in fans of the previous X-films.

Cable, Deadpool, Domino, X-23, Boom Boom, and Loa would be the time I start with (6 is a good number, any more would be too many). Also, give Liefeld a paid vacation to some exotic country, then bring in a competent X-Force writer to consult on the film. What do you all think of Bastion being the villain, I think it could be cool?

They won't be addressing Cab;e's origins. That's way too Conovuled for GA.

Cable was not Intrended to be Cyclops' son from fuutre when Rob Liefiled created him.Cable was with the new mutants for a year before the story of Cyclops' son having to go Into future was done.

Besides CYclops' death will likely be undone by time travel In DOFP.

Yeah Cyclops's death will probably be undone. Still, don't know if they will make cable his son. They might not even mention who his parents are.

that would be much more interesting instead of not adressing it.

Its all about a good writer/writers, and some lines. Its not like they need to spend 30 minutes to reveal that info, u know?

They are expanding the universe, its time to expand the connections of these characters. And not play Cheap anymore.
