The Year 2012 (Merged)

yeah cos the world blwoing up or whatever is gonna be like "oh no...hang on....i have to wait till december to do it...":o

You don't seem to understand. Throughout the ages discussion and predictions about the end of the world have been made.

"The end" has specifically always been about birth, life, death and rebirth. In these discussions symbolism is used.

December is "the end" of the calender year but more importantly, its what takes place in December year after year. Its the winter solstice which takes place approximately on the 21st day in December.

What is the winter solstice? Its when the Sun's position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance on the other side of the equatorial plane from the observer in the Northern hemisphere. Its takes place on the short day of the year or in other words, "the longest night" of the year. Essential its about the birth or rebirth of the Sun.

Worldwide many cultures have held a recognition of rebirth, involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other celebrations around that time.

Since the event is observed as the reversal of the Sun's ebbing presence in the sky, concepts of the birth or rebirth of sun gods have been common and, in cultures using winter solstitially based cyclic calendars, the year as reborn has been celebrated with regard to life-death-rebirth deities or new beginnings such as the New Years cleaning tradition of resolutions.

I'm not taking anything too far.

You apparently didn't understand why some end of the world predictions use December and I gave you the answer.

I am under the belief that the end of the world as we know it will eventually come to an end but it will happen when it happens for no one knows when...but when it does, those alive will be witness to it.

ok i was actually joking about by saying why always december?

No problem. Like I said there is historically heavy use of symbolism when it comes to "end of the world" theories which probably goes back to the beginning of human civilization.

Death should be something we all look forward to, think of it as an evolution, a shedding of our current being. This body we have is just the training wheels for what is next on the path of existence. All your dead friends and family are up there waiting for you so when you finally take off to other world they can say "dude, I can't believe you do that s**t in the bathroom, the hell man". Let the good times roll

Theres a much logic in your comments.

Death isn't sad. The sad thing is: most people don't live at all.

I understand what you are saying so another way of looking at it is since mankind is the creator of this technology mankind is simply ruining itself.

Humans are self destruction which is the result of lack of self control for the greatest battle is within.

Let I said the end of the world doesn't actually mean the physical destruction of the earth and the end of the world has actually taken place many many times during the earth's existence.

I have read much about your religion and it points on the end of the world Raybia

There is even varying interpretations within my religion on the end of the world though.

I would say the prevailing thought in my religion is of a physical destruction but thats not my understanding of it.

There are many worlds and new worlds are created all of the time as well as worlds that come to an end all of the time (birth of an age or epoch and death of one).

By "world" I mean both a realm or domain and a sphere of human activity or interest.

There is also the world as it refers to the secular life and its concerns and this is the world that I think is coming to an end as we speak.

Out of the end of this world will come the birth of a new one.

Based on biblical prophecy...I'd say we still have sometime left to go yet. Still waiting on that one world gov't. Though, I guess with the EU and the UN we are pretty close now.

I don't consider any event the end of the world until Earth itself ceases to exist. The world isn't going anywhere, WE are. The end of mankind.

...until, you know...the world gets swallowed by our dying sun. :oldrazz:

Right, that would be the world ceasing to exist. We will probably be dead before that.

straight from wikipedia

NASA predicts that the Sun will reverse its own magnetic poles during 2012 as result of reaching the end of the current 11-year sunspot cycle

the fact that this involves the sun is no coincidence.

December has always been a time of sun (son) worship.

with how easily disease spreads.. i think it would probally be pretty easy to wipe out most all of the humans with that, or one of our war hungry nations magical bombs, all it takes is a few vials of something or someone with a nuke to get pissed off.. i'm actually surprised our world hasnt ended ages ago
