Oh, I'm not talking about confirmation regarding the character. I'm saying he isn't wrong when he says that people who get worked about nonsense such as a comic book movie character's skin color live pretty charmed and sheltered lives.

I'm surprised if the makeover arc is being pursued. Given today's awareness regarding body shaming and a push toward body self-image positivity, it seems like a publicity nightmare waiting to happen.

You know there is one other great thing that could come out of all of this, other than a potentially great casting of Zendaya as Mary Jane Watson, and a potentially amazing Spider-Man movie, and that is how Mary Jane and Peter having a romance in the films will affect the comics. Marvel have been lately trying to have their comics be closer to the movies, and if Peter and Mary Jane get back together in the movies, it might make Marvel Comics be more willing to have Peter and Mary Jane get back together in the comics too in spite of the events of the dreaded One More Day. I know Renew Your Vows has Mary Jane and Peter together, but it's a story not set in the 616 universe so it really doesn't count in this case.

The ugly duckling thing maybe, though I doubt they'd do the non-natural red head and non-white approach. Marvel Comics are making their comics closer to the movies, but not that closer to the films. The only time they've done something close to that was with Nick Fury, when they added Nick Fury Jr., who was basically a black Nick Fury like the movie and Ultimate version, and had him take over from his dad.

I honestly don't think they'd go that far honestly, but you never know.

The only person who I could see trying to prevent this happening is Dan Slott, who'd been pretty blatant at times basically preventing Peter and MJ from getting back together. A annoying example is before Superior Spider-Man came along, it seemed the two were poised to get back together, then Superior Spider-Man happened, and basically seemed to as of now end any chance of them getting back together, with MJ now looking as though she might date Tony Stark of all people!

Anyways, Marvel might try to force him to of course, but thankfully it might not be necessary since Dan Slott might finally leave Spider-Man in 2018 as that's when his contract ends. So it might be the following writer after who has to worry about Marvel potentially forcing Peter and MJ back together.

I never thought I'd be against a race-bending casting ever. I love seeing comics brought out of the 60s into a world where catering to the audience doesn't mean making everyone white. I love scoffing at the subtext of people who react as though someone is "taking" "their" heroes and all that. So when I found out Laura Harrier is playing Liz Allan and Tony Revolori was playing Flash Thompson, I did a little fist pump to myself and patted the Marvel Logo I keep on the shelf saying "Good job Feige" and kept moving.

Oddly, when I heard Zendaya was a character named Michelle, I got really excited. They were doing something different from the Raimi and Webb serieses. They were tapping into Peter's very large Rolodex of love interests and I thought that was really REALLY cool. I thought the idea of her being MJ would be trite, as we've already diversified the cast enough for my tastes, and honestly "Let the white folks have something, they can't handle being a minority." So I was actually really against the idea of her being MJ. Even told my wife about it, and she, kindly, nodded and smiled the whole time.

So when I saw this news yesterday I scoffed. I was conflicted, deeply. My interest in updating these stories comprehensively kind of came up against my interest in keeping them the same as I remember them growing up and I've never been in that position before.

But the above series of photos holds too much promise for, imho, the ideal Mary Jane, the ideal not-a-retread of the Girl-Next-Door-MJ from Raimi's films, and honestly, the hottest 19 year old who has the acting talent to keep up with Tom Holland. Who, yes... looks good with Red Hair. I could go on, but honestly, the pictures say all the words that need to be said. I just like to type.

Penny from Big Bang Theory is similar to this, but what ultimately Peter and Leonard learn that despite their geekiness, being a nice, charming guy speaks volumes over the jerks and egotistical jocks both women date or pursue. It proves that good guys don't finish last.

Plus, how ****ing hard was it to cast an actual redhead? I mean are there a shortage of redheaded actresses in Hollywood? I would've rather had Angourie as MJ. I hope this is ******** Internet rumors and Zendaya will stay Michelle.

More importantly, good guys do finish last. Good guys don't finish the way "bad boys" eventually have to. They keep going. This does mean that they can eventually have the proverbial "hot girl who doesn't have time for nice guys," but that usually comes after that woman has been hurt enough that they're willing to try something new. They are not won over by geekiness, they are turned off from their previous type by extended bouts of emotional and sometimes physical abuse. This is the point of the Liz Allan and Debra Whitman characters in comics, which I suspect will remain true here. Mary Jane is more accessible than that. She's not just a prize, and while she should be very attractive, the iconic moment for her character is "Face it Tiger." The point of MJ in the comics that we all love is that MJ being attractive is a surprise. That she's already into Peter, not won over by him. MJ is not the unattainable girl. She's definitely not Penny. Liz Allan is Penny.

MJ is something different, and based on the comics, and not Big Bang Theory, they'll get a lot closer to that "Jackpot" moment than they would if they listened to rants like these.

I typically don't harbor negative feelings towards celebrities or internet personalities that I have never met for a variety of reasons, but El Mayimbe genuinely annoys me.

I'm firmly of the opinion that knowing as little as possible is the best way to experience a movie so naturally I don't pay any attention to him, but sometimes I don't have an option. This is one of those occasions.

It started a few years back when he had that dramatic video teasing Bale's return as Batman (which was clearly BS, no one should have believed him for a second), continued on with his various podcast appearances (one of which he dropped a big spoiler for the last episode of Luke Cage without warning), and up to now where he ruined this surprise, seemingly out of pettiness.

Go away, El Mayimbe. We'd be better off without you.

This is one of those occasions where I'll say, yes, this is getting a pass with a lot of people because it's Marvel, and for good reason. I mean their track record with casting is so good it's downright silly.

Had this been Sony's decision, or Fox, or WB, or any other studio, I'd be very very worried. I have never heard of this Zendaya girl before she was cast in Homecoming, but Marvel's stamp of approval is all I need.
