Iron Man 2 Theroux to Script Iron Man Sequel

Interesting. I wonder why they chose him? I thought the original writers did a wonderful job with the first film.

EDIT: I just remembered. They're writing another film with Robert Downey Junior.

Why? Many people wrote drafts for Iron Man (and many people were listed on the credits). I don't find this concerning at all. Different writers are used all the time. They changed writers from SM1 to SM2, and SM2 turned out to be even better.

Didn't Downey basically make-up most of his lines anyway?

Thoreaux? I guess we'll all have to see.

Won't judge or assume anything at this point...especially since I haven't seen Tropic Thunder.

As it's been said in a number of reviews that Downey Jr. carried/made Iron Man as well as Favreau saying Downey Jr. would call some of the dialogue crap and do his own thing...I still have just as much faith at this point.

I'm more interested in the plot and villain they come up with than the dialogue.

Tropical Thunder looks good, but else has he written?

Theroux wrote American Psycho, which is a good movie; He's also done some good comedy. I'm convinced he'll be just fine for Iron Man.

I applaud Marvel for keeping Zak Penn the hell away from this movie. As long as Favreau and RDJ are front and center, I have no worries regarding this sequel.

Yes.

Zak Penn = the devil.

Seems like a safe decision. Tropic Thunder looks like it has the comedy and action combo Marvel would want.

Personally, I was expecting news from Thor before this. Protosevich still seems like a shaky choice for that property. I'd like David Hayter for The Avengers, while we're at it.

WTF?! Are they joking?! They hired somebody who (co-)wrote only one script and to a comedy which is more about Downey's, Stiller's and Black's skills, improvisations etc.

I liked him in American Psycho and he was good in Mullholland Drive.

I think he will do a good job. His cousin Louis Theroux BBC shows are funny.

Why doesn't this seem logical? Iron Man catered to the power of improv. It'd make sense that Iron Man II does the same.

It seems strange that Marvel wouldn't try to get Fergus & Osley back to write the film, unless their busy. I'm not concerned, I will let this play out before I pass judgement, just like a strange move by Marvel.

I am all for this. Justin Theroux has always held my attention, I was just waiting for him to do something with it.
Most people are overlooking the fact that he more known for his acting and only recently got into the writing game. My money says he has a part in this film.

Fergus and Ostby are probably busy with Cowboys and Aliens, which Downey has been attached to star in, and which is also set for a summer 2010 release.

IMHO, Iron Man's script was good in spite of the fact it was handled by a cadre of writers, and that extensive improv was allowed, not necessarily because of it. So many cooks usually lead to disaster. I think that it did work is a testament to Marvel, Favreau's and Downey's knowledge of the property and their filter will hopefully provide the same result for the sequel regardless of who pens the script.
