Things That Make You Go Hmmmmm: The Return of the Arsenio Hall Show Thread!!!!!

I watched and enjoyed. It was a little shakey but he pulled it out cause Chris Tucker isn't best interviewee in the world. So hopefully he'll get back in the groove. As far as Jay Leno goes, I believe this is why Arsenio came back. Since Jay is leaving, Arsenio, once being a regular on the Tonight Show, figure if I can get my viewers back and a portion of Jay's maybe this will work out. He knows that Jay's audience is different from Fallon's audience--and we know Jay's cool w/ it cause he doesn't really want the Tonight Show to succeed or be as successful after him.

That's an interesting point. I don't think Jay's "red state" audience is going to go to Arsenio, but he might get a big piece of the middle America mainstream audience that just wants a regular talkshow, without Fallon's Gen-Y antics, Conan's hipster irony or Letterman's crankiness. Might be interesting to see what happens with Kimmel's and Arsenio's ratings when that changing of the guard takes place.

He still got it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see what he has in store tonight.

Watching right now... so far so good.

It was good and nostalgic. Especially some of the "time capsule" items he brought out. :funny: He was a bit of a shaky at times but after 19 years of not being a talk show host he still has it.

Would like to see how the show works in a more normalized format. In his heyday, he was the show you'd watch to see cutting edge guests and talent you wouldn't normally see elsewhere. Whether or not he can still capture that spirit right now is an open question.

Here's what he has for the rest of the week:

Tuesday(Tonight):

Hip-hop artist Ice Cube; actress Lisa Kudrow; rapper Mac Miller.

Wednesday:

NBA star Magic Johnson; comic George Lopez; rapper Nas.

Thursday:

Actor Mark Harmon; magicians Penn & Teller; singer Ariana Grande.

Friday:

Actress Angela Bassett; music group Emblem3.

Not bad so far, but I hope he starts getting better guests soon.

Who remembers "The Party Machine with Nia Peeples", which was produced by Arsenio?

Remember Arsenio Hall's Hot 100 Hit?

As the late-night host returns to TV tonight, a flashback to when he – or, rather, his alter ego Chunky A – made a Hot 100 visit with 'Owwww!'

After an almost two-decade hiatus, Arsenio Hall is back on late-night TV as of tonight with the syndicated "Arsenio." The actor/host's "The Arsenio Hall Show" ran in syndication from 1989 to 1994.

The first version of the program fostered some memorable musical moments, perhaps most famously Bill Clinton's saxophone solo that has been credited with helping him gain younger voters on his way to the winning the 1992 U.S. Presidential election.

But do you remember that Arsenio had a Billboard Hot 100 hit?

As roly-poly alter ego Chunky A, Hall reached No. 77 on the Hot 100 in December 1989 (and No. 26 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in January 1990) with "Owww!" "Your love makes me say 'Owwww!," goes the novelty ode to "more cushion for the pushin'."

"Whitney Houston, Madonna and even Brooke Shields don't come close to you," he declared.

Whether or not "Arsenio" spurs another Hot 100 visit for Hall, music will be a key part of the show. Rapper Mac Miller is among the first-week musical guests.

As for others? "The day my new show was announced, I got a call from Prince," Hall told Billboard sister publication the Hollywood Reporter. "He said, 'I'm so proud of you. Save me a night.' "

Who enjoyed the first week of Arsenio's comeback?

Here's this week schedule:

Monday

Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi (``Dads''); Melissa Leo (``Prisoners''); music group The Band Perry.

Tuesday

Allison Janney (``Mom''); David Oyelowo (``Lee Daniels' The Butler''); performer Kendrick Lamar.

Wednesday

Dr. Phil McGraw; comic Bill Bellamy.

Thursday

Business magnate Russell Simmons; actress Stacy Keibler; hip-hop artist Big Sean.

Friday

Terry Bradshaw (``Fox NFL Sunday''); actresses Tia and Tamera Mowry; rapper Sean Kingston.

Good guests tonight. Actually this week the guests look better: a combination of very current celebrities (Seth, Gino, Melissa) and guys that are just wicked at interviews (Bradshaw, Dr. Phil).

Last week was good, this week looks good too.

He also has the band Perry, which is a very popular country group

I just saw Diamond Dallas Page on Arsenio a while ago when the show was about to come to an end!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I usually don't bother thinking about the musicians though, because Arsenio usually has no problem getting good musical guests, that's consistently been the strongest part of his show(s).

It's getting that first 45 minutes of the show working again that I am sometimes concerned about.

Damn, Arsenio is wearing a fierce blazer tonight. I have to have that.
