thinking of joining army at 25

The Army teaches you discipline. It won't give you a purpose. Many vets end up lost after they get back, because the military gave them a purpose and without that, they have none for themselves.

More soldiers and vets kill themselves than are killed in battle. Let that sink in for a second.

I think we're concerned that by the time you're discharged, you'll end up exactly where you are now. Except you'll be even older, with no purpose except for one that someone gives you.

I won't go into detail, but I'm already at a low it could only help at this point

My brother in law just joined the army

3 or 4, I can't remember exactly, of his fellow trainees during basic training committed suicide.

Only you really know yourself and what could help you, but the army isn't some magical cure-all that gives you pride and purpose.

Oh wow, I had totally forgotten this thread. Army or whatever, I hope you find some stability, tls.

I know I can be a sarcastic jerk sometimes, but I'm not being sarcastic right now. I hope whatever you decide it gives you some purpose and lifts you to a better place than where you are right now.

Pros - you get into awesome shape to make the ladies' mouths drop.

Cons - there are only other guys to enjoy your physique for year long tours.

HOWEVER...If you are into that, then it's a no brainer.

Then use it as a stepping stone to better things, don't hang onto it as your only lifeline.

I have other depressed friends who thought that school or religion or the perfect job or being in a relationship or whatever would make them happy. That that one thing would give them all the answers. They all ended up disappointed and just as depressed. Because nothing can "make" you happy, only you can decide to approach situations with a certain mindset.

It's very difficult for someone with depression to just up and change their mindset, I'm aware of that, but the truth is, nothing out there is going to hand you all the answers. Only you can do that for yourself.
