Wow, this news really sucks. Jane was the best thing going for this sequel. He had the true passion to make a great Punisher film. It sounds like he really doesn'y like the way the script/director choice is heading.

Maybe he can write/direct the film? I'd certainly trust that.

This is ****, Jane IS The Punisher, and without him, i wont be going to see any sequel, he made the average 1st movie better than it should have been with his performance.

Universal, they got more balls then anyone of the big companies in Hollywood. Make it for a small sum of money, write a good script with Tom ideas, get Thomas back... and we're in action!

Tom Jane was the only thing going for this movie it seems. I loved the first one, only because I thought he was great in it. Without Jane I have no desire to see the sequel whatsoever.

I'm gutted he's pulled out, but I don't blame him at all for doing so. He tried so hard at the end of the day.

Good luck to him and his career, he's really a great actor.

Hi, David. Welcome to the boards. I saw your Daredevil short years ago and it was fun seeing such a passion for an aspiring film-maker, and I think yours was one of the earliest professionally made fan film.
Hope to hear more news from you.

Very unfortunate news.

But if the script for the sequel is as horrid as it's hinted to be, then Jane is definately making the right decision. It's obvious the guy was more than willing to not only reprise the role, but to improve upon his portrayal for the sequel as well. In short, it's really a damn shame.

David, the teaser looks great with a nice nod to Tim Bradstreet art. Just one thin, I downloaded the hi-def version and I can't hear the sound. Maybe it's just me...

I really really thought #1 sucked, but TJ was great. TJ would be the only reason I'd see #2 ... unless they had something good going for it. with him on the out, that's $8.75 I won't be spending at the theater.

THANK YOU LIONSGATE FILMS for having us wait for over three years on a sequel only to have it build up into absolutely fcking nothing in the end. I am so pissed and upset right now, you'd think I'm damned crazy for taking this crap personally.

Punisher 2 was the only comic book sequel film i was looking foward to seeing in the near future, but with that anticipation stomped to *****, I will never support another Punisher movie so long as Jane isn't in it.

I hope that Thomas Jane comes back.. I don’t know why it’s taking this long to get off the ground—they could “simply” adapt one of the Ennis-based arcs, or go back to some of the other prominent Punisher stories of the past.

What I hope doesn’t happen is that with Jane leaving, this becomes just a straight-to-dvd phoned-in movie with all-unknowns in the cast.

What could also happen maybe is that Lions Gate’s option expires, so Marvel gets to make the movie under their self-financed/Paramount deal

Whoa! That's weird. Remember I posted a few days ago something big was about to be announced and everything I heard made me happy but I had no idea Jane was not part of it. Weird. I thought Jane was signed on for 3 pics so he can't just pull out unless LGF just doesn't want him. What's even weirder is Harry's talk about the director because there is a director that was supposedly attached and it's not Walter Hill. I'm not gonna throw stones at LGF or Tom Jane yet but Punisher made enough money to warrant a sequel it must have been a money issue...again. That's why LGF sucks for these kind of films. They have very low budgets and sometimes it shows when you have to stretch a low budget into a action flick with lots of fireworks like this one.

One more thing:

If Marvel gets the rights back they can't finance punisher through their credit facility because it's rated R. Hopefully what they'll do is sell it to Sony so they can intro him again in a Spider-Man film and then re-spin him off into a hard R rated action flick. They could easily use the Punisher vs Spider-Man storyline without showing blood and guts but that would have to be a sub-plot within a bigger story. If Marvel gets the Daredevil rights back as they should within 12 months then it could be Punisher vs Spidey and then later Punisher & Spidey vs Kingpin. One wants him dead...the other wants him in jail. Who gets to him first.
