Christian Bale as Gorr looks super intense and metal as hell. He’s like if you combined the intensity of Kratos, the collected intimidation and competence of Sephiroth, and the creepiness of Voldemort. He’s even riding a giant piece of a planetary structure across the cosmos, just like good ole Sephy wanted to do.
In regards to Thor and the path that he’s taken in these films, I remember listening to this podcast one time where the main host made a point of not liking the direction of how they made Thor abdicate his responsibilities as King of Asgard to “find his own truth”, all because it didn’t jive with their own Christian idea of taking on your God-given responsibilities no matter what and not giving into your own so-called “selfish” desires to search yourself.
Frankly, I find that a load of BS. Like Thor, people don’t always stick to the same path or are destined to have the same responsibilities forever. Peoples’ perceptions and ideas of the world around them change. They hit roadblocks. They go through periods of their life where they’re wondering what the hell they’re supposed to do with their lives. They deconstruct. It happens. Hell, I’ve been going through the same thing for a number of years now. I’m going through it right now, even. I wanted my life to go to one way, but it’s gone in a completely different direction. It’s completely natural, not selfish.
To think that your path is completely set in stone according to whatever your interpretation of what you think God “calls us to do”, and that anything else is sacrilegious is, quite frankly, narrow minded and more selfish than the thing you deem so.
