Hey guys,

I just watched the Arena event today at D23 and it was very cool that Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman all came out in support of Thor TDW. The footage shown was comic con stuff apparently ending with Loki cutting of Thors hand Jaime Lannister style! Alan Taylor was apparently back stage but did not come out on stage which seemed a bit odd? Hopefully rumors about bad blood on this film over directorial cut are unfounded as the footage shown looked very good and played well in front of the 4000+ hall. The Thor footage showed Jane in Asgard with some energy inside of her defending/ attacking Asgardians trying to scan her as Thor and Odin argue about her being there. Odin references Jane Foster to a goat in this scene which was funny and the sets and acting look fabulous. They also showed the extended sequence with the rock man encounter and the "fight" with Thor.

Of course the crowd went crazy for Tom and Natalie but then Anthony Hopkins came out and got a standing ovation! I wish they had done more Q&A with the cast at this D23 Expo like at comic con but still not a bad day seeing Natalie Portman and Angeline Jolie up close as she was also in attendance for Malificent. I will try to attend the next D23 event as it was less crazed than comic con and I an now really looking forward to Thor 2 in November!

Nice to hear about it from somebody who was there! We were discussing this over in the speculation thread.

BTW
How obvious is the Thor-hand-cut-off scene? And is it in any of the same scenes we saw in the trailer?

Very obvious and more like a Anakin Skywalker chop by Loki!

So how exactly does it go down? Does it look like a fight? Can you tell where they are? Does it look like the place from the trailer were Loki is standing, Thor is on the ground and Jane is being held up by Malekith.

Sounding great. Thanks for sharing this here!

Found this on another site regarding Loki's actions and "hand gate". Eek!:o

Did you see/hear this, THOR?:

As the Thor: The Dark World title appears, we see Loki giving Jane Foster to Malekith and he tells him, “I just want to watch Earth burn.” Thor is crawling towards Jane, and as Mjolnir is about to reach Thor, Loki cuts off Thor’s hand.

Burn!?

Does that mean
Surtur!

I still think that Loki is playing everyone. He will pretend to betray Thor, then save him from Malekith, and then escape to cause more mischief.

This is exactly what happens. Jane is being held by Malekith, Loki kicks Thor who then reaches for Mjolnir as Loki pulls a blade and then slices his arm which looks like a burn wound as there is no blood....pg-13 rating of course...

Why not?

You really think he has nothing to do with this movie just cause it hasn't been said?

They are not showing the new villains at all so far in all of these sneak peeks... Kurse and Malekith have a few seconds of screen time so far... Perhaps Surtur is lurking in the shadows?? I hope so and have it lead into Thor 3 with Surtur attacking Asgard.

Thanks for that link, LadyGeek. Great recap there.

This is the scenario I'm hoping for! Today's tidbit about Jane has really reinforced the fact that there is so much to this movie that we don't know yet. 3 more months!

This being built up to DOOM!!! makes sense.

So someone watched The Dark Knight before writing this film. :o

The use of the word ''burn'' doesn't mean Surtur is necessarily involved, imo. It's just an expression that means ''to be destroyed''. The Other used the same expression in Avengers.

Oh, you meant my interpretation of the actual comment :P

Who knows. I'm just putting what appears to be two and two together

I see. Btw, I'd love if this was indeed an indication to Surtur.
I am just waiting for more concrete evidences, which I hope it'll happen!

They also showed the extended sequence with the rock man encounter and the "fight" with Thor.

What was the difference in Thor's extended fight with the rock man and what was shown in the trailer?

Hmm what do you mean it looked like a burn wound? And did Loki's blade look enchanted in any way?

Lokis blade pops out and does not appear to be enchanted....but it could be. Thors hand is chopped off leaving a red burn cut with no blood. As for the fight sequence Thor actually says hello and sizes up the rock creature before smashing it.

Thanks for the report!

Well, I guess that puts the end to speculation that it was just an illusion, or Tyr's hand was cut off instead of Thor's, etc. Loki is a right bastard so I don't know why anyone would be shocked or try to wish it away.

Could you tell us what you remember about the scenes with Jane? When Thor went to her on Earth, was the energy inside of her manifesting? Other accounts have the London police saying that she was "dangerous" but give no other details.

How do you know it isn't an illusion? Loki pulling a triple cross makes perfect sense.

i'm betting the whole thing is a charade put on by loki and thor working together. it would be repetitive to simply have loki go bad again. either that or he is bad and thor finally ends him in this movie.

The police do tell Thor that something along the lines of she's dangerous before saying so am I to them. The energy manifests itself on a table in Asgard as Asgardians medics are trying to help her when Odin comes in to tell Thor she should not be on Asgard. He instructs them to take her back to Midgard and let doctors treat her when the energy is unleashed on the guards. Natalie has markings under her skin and pulsating red light throughout her body but this was an early cut/ effect scene so it could change a little when the film is finished.

My theory still stands, that it's a vision.

Did the rock creature ever actually speak or respond in any way?

Oh and before I forget, when they showed the footage of Thor joining Sif in the battle how powerful did he blows look?
