Marvel explained away all the inconsistencies by saying the myths got stuff wrong. One of the best ideas the Thor creators ever had, really. History's gotten mundane old mortal stuff wrong time and time again, after all, so it's no surprise the verbally transmitted myths of the ancient Norsemen got a few details about the gods wrong.

I was being sarcastic about the Simonson stuff. Whirlyspat wrote all of Thor's comics after he lost the Don Blake identity off as crappy, so I got sarcastic. Simonson's run is one of my favorites, along with Jurgens'. I liked the Thomas stuff, too, but I don't think it was as good as Simonson's run.

Having said that we have at least 4 Marvel origins of Asgard including Thomas's brilliant version of "The Ring".

Yeah, and I liked Oeming's further explanation of all the conflicting origins and endings of the Asgardians in the "Ragnarok" arc.

They never all really tie up though sadly, great stories as they were. To paraphrase the myths in the style of John Byrne "If continuity offend thee, pluck it out".

Oeming provided the means to tie them together, though. I just assume they do tie together and we just haven't seen the exact details of how yet. Maybe Oeming'll do another mini-series to reveal it all someday. Seems like he'll jump on anything mythological that Marvel wants to put out.
