To be honest, I'm really skeptical of this as someone who loved the 2013 reboot and Rise. Crystal Dynamics is gone and replaced by Eidos Montreal which has a chequered record at best. Rhianna Pratchett is gone and replaced by the writer of Assassin's Creed sequels. The trailers, screenshots, and gameplay demos all show a clear downgrade in graphics versus Rise and possibly even the 2013 reboot (see lighting and textures). I really don't understand why Crystal Dynamics is not returning to finish what is an alleged trilogy. I feel like this game got the shaft at the expense of SquareEnix's new Marvel deal.

I didn't know any of this. :csad:

Playing Rise now and not really feeling it. I find the crafting and survival aspect to be tedious.

You already know the answer which has to do with the sentence that comes after

I usually find crafting tedious in these kinds of games.

Rise didn't grab me nearly as much as the 2013 game did. It was ok, I beat it once and have no wish to ever touch it again.

I'm glad that Pratchett is gone. She's a weak writer. But she's replaced by another weak writer.

Games need to move on from quick time events. They are ok if they are just to get you involved a bit but I don’t want to waste dying to hard QTEs and I have no desire to waste time trying to master them. That gameplay is from decades prior and I would rather focus on getting good at and being assessed on the core gameplay of running, jumping, fighting and exploring tombs etc with the game’s standard controls.

17 comments Read >

After people finish their first Shadow of the Tomb Raider run, there is a pretty substantial incentive to play again. It has been confirmed via the official website that there is a New Game Plus option. This allows you to carry over content from your old game and use it in a new one, as you would expect, while also allowing you access to new content.

The typical items you expect to carry over in a Shadow of the Tomb Raider New Game Plus file do. This means any equipment upgrades, gear, outfits, skills, and weapons Lara Croft picked up on the first run will remain in her repertoire and inventory.

However, Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s New Game Plus also brings in three Paths exclusive to a subsequent playthrough. They are the Eagle Path, Jaguar Path, and Serpent Path. Sticking to one earns you exclusive mastery skills, new outfits, and themed weapons.

Here is the official description for all three New Game Plus Paths.

    • Path of the Eagle: Gameplay features an emphasis on traversal and resourcefulness. Observe your enemies from afar, scouting out to plan your next attack. Traverse with ease, attacking enemies from long range.
    • Path of the Jaguar: Your gameplay features an emphasis on hunting and combat. Strike down your enemies with an unrivaled ferocity. Your agility and close-ranged prowess tear through your enemies with knife takedowns.
    • Path of the Serpent: You gameplay features an emphasis on stealth and subterfuge. Take down your foes one by one, using sound and decoys to sow chaos among their ranks. Mud and camoflague lets you lash out your foes before slipping back into the shadows.

Tomb Raider will come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 14, 2018.
