On the new Thundercats cartoon

WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series. The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans.

The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA)
The Thundercats are all teenagers. Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a "third" eye. Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an "Eye of Thunderra" and transformative powers (not just Lion-O)

When they aren't fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That's not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin' cats in their present form.
Mum-Ra now has wings.

Warner Bros. has optioned a Thundercats script by new screenwriter Paul Sopocy to turn the popular 1980s animated series and toy line into a live action feature.

Variety says Warner-based Paula Weinstein will produce through her Spring Creek Productions, along with Dick Robertson and Lew Korman.

Thundercats revolves around a group of humanoid cats (with feline names like Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro and Cheetara) who must flee their planet of Thundera after it's destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off.

Sopocy has written the script as an origin story expanding on the major heroes and villains from the animated series, with the plot focusing on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats.

Warner Bros. recently teamed with Joel Silver to produce a live-action He-Man movie, based on the toy and cartoon franchise, as well as a feature based on the DC comic book Teen Titans.

^ That's what I'm worried about. I hope they can make it somewhat faithful but have a whole new take on how their suits will look. It'd be cheesy to have Lion-O rockin the light blue undies and tank top.

The story of the thundercats is great and will work well on screen, however the look of the characters could be challenging, i just hope WB gets off their arses and actually makes this into a decent film!

Ving Rhames would be a perfect Panthro. He just needs to get in shape in terms of losing some weight. He always had that look to me for Panthro. I wouldn't mind Wesley Snipes either.

Great news and not so great . Lets hope WB gets a decent filmmaker to do it and one who doens't camp it up. As for th look of the characters there will have to be some departures from the animated series in order for it to work properly. No blue undies or tank tops have lion-o wear some long trunks and armor light armor that is. The hair will also be a challenge. The face well it has to be prostetics and the skin to.
Hope they get someone in great shape to play them specially panthro and Lion-O and no muscle suits please. Only for mumra maybe.

I don't see why they had to get a no-name writer. This needs to adapted carefully in order to work on screen.

Hopefully this won't be another TINO. "Thundercats In Name Only".

They should get Stan Winston to do the make up. Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes sucked terribly but the make up was well done.
