THUS FAR... Your Favorite Film(s) Released in 2006!

2006 was one of the worst years for movie industry.

But anyway, here is my TOP3:

1. The Departed

2. Superman Returns

3. POTC2

4. V for Vendetta

5. Mission Impossible 3

Even though the theatrical version came out in 2005, I'd like to mention the director's cut of this film in my favorite list of 2006:

Kingdom of Heaven - The director's cut is vastly superior to the heavily cut-for-the-ADD-crowd-audience theatrical cut. Ridley Scott is great at what he does and that is creating worlds. "Kingdom of Heaven: The Director's Cut" is no exception. Through the central character of Balian, we are transported to the 12th century where we have Muslims vs. Christians killing each other over Jerusalem. Balian must decide how he can preserve this "Kingdom of Heaven" that was established by King Baldwin IV and Saladin. This film is a much more ambitious film than "Gladiator" in the sense on the issues it tackles. The characters are richly developed in the director's cut, especially Sybilla. Her story is much more tragic and compelling now that much of her story that was cut from the theatrical cut is back in.

POTC 2
Superman returns
The omen
Click
A good year for big budget blockbusters

I would have to say V for Vendetta.

Taladega Nights: One of the funniest movies that I have ever watched. Will Ferrell is just too damn funny and the movie even seemed to have heart.
Rating: 9/10

Pirates/DeadMans Chest: Not quite as good as the first one, but I love Jack Sparrow and the acting was great, for this type of film of course. The special effects are some of the best ever and Davy Jones made for a good villian.
Rating:8.5/10

The Break-up: A very underrated movie that was both funny and heartbreaking.
Rating:8/10

Inside Man: Very entertaining movie.
Rating:7.5/10

VFV: Hugely overrated and I probably won't watch it again anytime soon but it was well done for the most part.
Rating:7.5/10

Nacho Libre: It was very dumb and very funny.
Rating: 7.5/10

Silent Hill:It's not a good movie but it's damn scary and points go to the filmmakers for actually following the videogame.
Rating:7/10

X3: It was dumb, but it was fun and we finally got to see the mutants use their powers in a big way and finally got a X-Men movie that lighten up and what do you know, I finally liked Storm. It's not a better movie than X2 but it damn sure is more watchable.
Rating:7/10

Superman Returns: It was decent movie but what was the point of remaking the first movie and making it ultra serious and overly long?
Rating:7/10

The Departed
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
V For Vendetta
Fast and the Furious: Toyko Drift

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Superman Returns

Bryan Singer has officially brought Superman back in all of his glory!
You mean "back in all his boring"

And again, I fail to see how the numbskull idea of having SUPERMAN knock up a chick and then take off for half a decade without saying goodbye to any of the people he "loves" is "glory". :whatever:

And aNOTHER ridiculous, totally unfeasible REAL ESTATE caper from L.L.?

pathetic.:down

I'm obligated to say Superman Returns since I saw it 5 times. So that was my favorite. The best though was The Departed.

Thus far:
World Trade Center, Inside Man, 16 Blocks, The Illusionist, The Guardian, V For Vendetta, Pirates Of The Carabean 2, The Wicker Man, The Ice Age 2, Lucky Number Slevin, X-3, The Tiger And The Snow, Click, Scoop, Lady In The Water, Miami Vice, The Lake House, Poseidon and The Pink Panther.

Biggest disapointments for me: Superman Returns and MI3.

Superman Returns
V For Vendetta
Clerks II

I haven't seen The Departed, Hollywoodland, or The Prestige (obviously) yet though, and they're bound to rank pretty high.

The Departed -- I had high expectations for this film and it certainly met all of them. Great stuff. It just got better and better with each frame. 9/10.

United 93 -- Just a wonderful look at the events of that day. Though heartwrenching and agonizing, I thouroughly enjoyed it. It didn't play up the sympathy of the events of 9/11. It was just the straightforward story, from the dawn of 9/11 until the plane hits the ground. 9/10.

V for Vendetta -- I loved it. Hugo Waeving and his wonderful voice brought that character to life. Though it strayed for the graphic novel a lot of the time, I still think it was a great representation of the story. 8/10.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning -- Though this certainly isn't one of the best films that came out this year, I really enjoyed it. I've been a big TCM fan since viewing the original many years back, and I love the way this new franchise has turned out. The look, the characters, and the stories have all been top notch for a horror movie. And the acting is pretty great, too. R. Lee Ermey? C'mon. Give it up for this badass. He is the driving force of this sick family. The film has its flaws, but it's still a great addition to the franchise that isn't just some senseless gore-fest. 8/10.

I've seen other good films this year, but not many stand out like these few. I have a feeling The Prestige will become my new favorite of the year this weekend.

I am disturbed by the amount of people saying POTC2, yes there weren't that many good films this year, but really stooping as low as saying POTC2 was one of the best? I'd say it's one of the worst films this year, along with the likes of aeon flux

Funny I'm disturbed by all of the people saying Superman Returns, a drab remake/sequel to a 20+ year old movie is the best. It had quite possibly one of the worse storylines and villains ever concived.

at least there were good bits in SR, fair enough they were few and far between, but POTC was incredibly dull and lacked any fun or anything. Maybe they'll recover for the sequel, but I'm not betting on it.

At least there's a glimmer of hope in superman, Singer just needed to restart the franchise, so yer it was a little dull, but with the promise of a proper space badguy, we should keep our heads up for the sequel
