Tim Burton's Dark Shadows

Burton isn't as dark as people claim. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, the first half of Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, and Big Fish are light-hearted. And, Beetlejuice, while being "dark" was a comedy, a black comedy, but a comedy nonetheless. And you can say something similar about Sleepy Hollow. That movie was basically an action-comedy disguised as an 18th century horror movie. And, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory wasn't really dark at all. Nor Corpse Bride. Or Nightmare Before Christmas for that matter. Like, Beetlejuice, those were black comedies. Batman, Batman Returns, Planet of the Apes, and Sweeney Todd are the only serious and actually dark movies he's made. And even those had their light-hearted moments.

Point taken.

But Burton is always very strong in what he thinks. But even if the concept isn't dark, the sets, how it's shot, lit, the music, etc, all reflect Burton's sensibilities.

i personally love burton. even though i dont know much about 'dark shadows', i will still be looking forward to this movie. lots of people get sick of the look of his films and the actors he gets to act in them..but it doesnt bother me one bit. im a huge tim burton fan. im sure he will make something great out of this.

Burton's movies always feel weirder than they do "dark".

Yes, he's much more weird and quirky than he is dark. I think people misunderstand what a dark film is.

Agreed. Although no one can dispute that Batman Returns is both dark and weird.

It is, but the parents in 1992 that complained that it was too scary for their children are still complete pansies... I've been watching BR since I was three years old and it doesnt scare me at all.

I was five when it came out and probably six once I saw it on VHS and I'll admit, at that age and at midnight, watching the Penguin pull that cat into his cage was terrifying.

Good Batman movie, fantastic Burton movie and one of my favourite Christmas movies.

Dark Shadows was awesome!!!!! It started off fairly normally but by its third season there were vengeful ghosts, lustful succubi, Frankenstein-esque monsters and even time travel. This movie is going to be epic.

Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcoate in 'Dark Shadows' Talks

I'm told that Jackie Earle Haley is in talks to play Willie Loomis in Dark Shadows, the Tim Burton-directed horror film for Warner Bros, based on the 60s TV soap that will star Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins. At the same time, sources say that Bella Heathcoate is the choice to play Victoria Winters, the young governess of the Collins estate.

EXCLUSIVE: Eva Green has landed the female lead in Dark Shadows, the Tim Burton-directed adaptation of the 60s supernatural TV soap opera for Warner Bros. Green, who made a most memorable impression when she broke James Bond's heart in Casino Royale as Vesper Lynd, is negotiating to play the role of Angelique. In the series, she was a powerful witch who was alternately tormented and bewitched by her love-hate relationship with Barnabas Collins. Depp will play Collins. Lara Parker played the role in the original Gothic horror soap. The French-born actress most recently starred oppposite Ewan McGregor in the romantic thriller Perfect Sense, the Sundance title just acquired by IFC. Green just signed with UTA and she is also repped by UK-based Tavistock Wood.

Huh... Helena Bonham Carter must be busy. :oldrazz:

Thank GOD Eva Green got a big role like this! She dissapeared for a while. Even her latest indie films aren't aren't talked about (like The Dreamers)

Eva is a talented and beautiful actress, it's going to be interesting to see her collaborate with Burton and Depp.

Tim Burton was brilliant as a director in the 1990's, finally Dark Shadows seems like an interesting project for him after films such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice In Wonderland and Sweeney Todd.

Good addition to the cast along with Johnny Depp. I really liked Eva Green in Casino Royale.

Bonham Carter 'wants fewer Tim Burton roles'

Helena Bonham Carter has admitted that she would like to work with other directors other than her partner Tim Burton.

The actress has collaborated with Burton on six films and believes that she would be "calmer" working with someone else.

She explained to the Daily Mail: "I am available for work other than with the boyfriend. And I will certainly make it a calmer, easier, happier set to work on."

Bonham Carter has been nominated for a 'Best Supporting Actress' Oscar for The King's Speech and though she is surprised to be picked, she is grateful she has shown her diversity as an actress.

She added: "I feel like I'm flying on their coattails. But it is good for me to be seen as vaguely normal in a film instead of being dressed as a witch or some strange character."
Helena is a well regarded oscar nominated actress who can stand on her own two feet.

She has been stunning in every Burton role. (My favorite part of Planet of the Apes even).

This is good for her and Burton... and great for us, cause hey... Eva Green :woot:

ohhhh finally a Burton movie without Depp. would be funny if Depp was in this right?

Look, as long as its a good movie... does it really matter?

I mean, you can always skip their collaborations if it bothers you that much. Watch Frankenweenie instead.

i can't even imagine actually being able to say that in person with a a straight face lol.

Agreed. What do people care anyway how many times they work together. Do we complain NOW that DeNiro and Scorsese worked together too much for three decades?

Besides, this is Johnny Depp's personal project. He actually asked Burton to direct and not the other way around (he's the producer of the project after all).

Jackie Earl Haley in a Burton film would be badass.
