Exclusive: Tim Kring Explains Heroes' "Generations" Finale
by Michael Logan

Will Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) die by an assassin's bullet? Was Niki (Ali Larter) truly blown to hot, blonde, gorgeous bits? Will Adam (David Anders) spend eternity six feet under? And — say it ain't so! — does badass Elle (Kristen Bell) really have an inner Girl Scout? The Dec. 3 episode of Heroes, the conclusion of the show's second volume "Generations," left us with lots of big questions. Creator and executive producer Tim Kring has the answers. And, whaddya know, he's even sharing some of them!

The fate of Nathan, who was shot during a TV press conference, and of Niki, who may have died in an abandoned building explosion, are "up in the air and will be determined when we come back after the strike," Kring says. "Things are fairly dire for them both." Immortal Adam was teleported by Hiro (Masi Oka) into a coffin buried in the same Japanese cemetery where his father Kaito (George Takei), who was slain by Adam, is also buried. "It's poetic justice to have Adam end up in the same graveyard as Kaito," Kring notes. "We've given the audience no reason to believe that Adam can figure a way to get out of there. The fact that he can live forever makes this the most gruesome of internments. If this happened to any of us, at least we'd know we'd soon have the mercy of death. Not here."

Witchy, *****y Elle, who wound up saving the lives of Mohinder (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Maya (Dania Ramirez) and little Molly (Adair Tishler), clearly sparked when Mohinder called her a hero. "Kristen Bell gave us the perfect reaction in that scene," Kring says. "For a moment there, Elle sees she's been given an opportunity to use her powers in a good way. And she absolutely likes the sound of that word 'hero.'" Not to worry. There are plenty more baddies coming after the writers' strike concludes. In fact, the title of Volume 3 — "Villains" — says it all.

"We've introduced a cadre of them over the course of the show and we're going to see them rise up," Kring says. "Just as the heroes have found each other to save the world, the villains will do the same with the opposite intent." And their numbers may be legion. "The Company has catalogued many of these people over the years. There may be more of them down in that basement than we have alluded to so far."

Will Sylar (Zachary Quinto) be their ringleader? After being electro-zapped by Elle, Mister Eyebrows escaped to a back alley and skeevily injected himself with Claire's (Hayden Panettiere) blood. Then, in a wicked salute to Popeye, he telekinetically grabbed a can of spinach and said, "I'm back!"

"Sylar getting his power back does not bode well for our heroes," says Kring, who admits there is one upside to the writers' strike: Originally, Quinto was not going to be available for much of Volume 3 because of his commitment to the new Star Trek film. Now, with the strike dragging on, he'll likely be done playing young Spock by the time Heroes returns to production.

I think Adam will get out of the coffin.

I really think so too, he will probably get out on his own.

They need a villain with Ted's power but without his aversion to using it. And no, not just Sylar or Peter.

I like the idea of having a legion of villains who are hell-bent on destroying the world. Maybe it will prompt the heroes to use their powers more, although with two time-stoppers/teleporters on the heroes' side, the villains will have to be darn good to win the fight.

With Hiro, honor might make him not use the time-stopping if Adam shows back up to fight him to settle things. Think that little sword fight they had in Japan in the past only longer and more kick ass with a definite winner.

And with Peter... he could go villain. Tying up the time-stopper ratio.

Really you think so? I honestly think he's over and done with. He had two purposes in the show, release the virus (failed) and get even with Hiro (check: Killed father). So in my opinion there's nothing left for him to do. Not to mention his greatest strength in the show was having Peter brainwashed which he doesn't anymore. And now that the next volume will be focused to have Sylar as the main villain again, I don't think Adam will fit.

But that's my 2cents. Can't wait to see newer villains.

I'm hoping Nathan makes a return, they just need Claire's blood.

Or hopefully peter will try his blood as he has that ability now and it will save nathan!

I hope adam gets out, just for the fact that is my worst nightmare oh how i shuddered at that scene!

Well, while Peter does have the ability to heal I have to wonder if his blood could do the same as Claire's or Adam's. I mean, it seems Peter gets the primary power of the person but not the secondary. But, who knows. lol.

And yes, what happened to Adam is scary. lol.

I dont know why people talk about "primary" and "secondary" abilities as if it's all that simple. It's really not. Not everyone has exactly 2 clearly defined abilities. Claire's healing blood isn't specifically a second ability, it's just an expansion of her regular power. Just like Matt's growing abilities all tie into his "telepathy".

Three Heroes Have Fallen—Who Will Rise? We all know Claire's blood can save the world and pretty much everyone in it, so who'll get the hot cheerleader injection (wait, that sounded dirty) and come back to the show? Based on what I'm hearing from inside sources, here's where I'd put my money...
Ali Larter: According to Heroes insiders, Niki is not expected to return to the show. But her devilish alter ego, Jessica? Oh yeah, we'll see her as soon as the show comes back to the beloved airwaves—when the strike is through! At least, that's the plan according to sources who tell me producers had "done all they could do" with Niki. Micah is not gonna be happy. But at least he'll have Monica...
David Anders: I'd bet my beloved, signed Hiro poster that Hiro's sworn nemesis will return. (I've seen that '90s flick The Vanishing and know people can be dug up after being buried alive! Maybe we can even get Kiefer Sutherland to do the digging!) Sources tell me it's not set in stone, but the tentative plan is for Adam Monroe to be back to torment our favorite squinty teleporter—i.e., the "carp." Here's hoping he does.
Adrian Pasdar: I've heard the production and writing staff is somewhat split as to whether Nathan should return to the show. Allow me to be the first to say WTF? Heroes without the brothers would be like Prison Break or Brothers & Sisters without the brothers: a waste of time! Surely Claire's blood can save her own father, right?! Let's say a little prayer for the older Petrelli, shall we?

I like the sound of that!

Better bring back Nathan and Adam.

Ok, we can put it this way. Peter seems to get the "first" part of the ability, not the evolution of it.

What are you basing that on? How many powers have evolved that we have seen peter attempt and fail at?? What i did notice is that he was totally immune to Parkman's mind control...which i thought was impressive..in addition he is immune to Hiro's time freeze. Not to mention his telekinesis has clearly gained significant power.

You also forgot where he projected thoughts into Matt's head. That little mind control trick if he did it on anyone else.

I hope Elle isn't killed of in season 3 trying to be a hero, she's slowly starting 2 be a favorite of mine, plus she has the best super power ever, it'd be a waste, of brain, beauty and bron

I can't wait to find out what all that stuff in the basement was about- the brain, the horse, the cards etc...

I wondered about all those things. There was a dagger also.

:wow: :wow: :wow: Jessica is back in season 3!? Hell yeah!!!:woot:

Well, I guess they're going to make it look like Jessica survived.

That'd be awesome.

I had this feeling that maybe Adam's blood gave Nathan the immortality as well...? If that would be the case, I'm not sure am I diggin' it.

I wish he would have commented on how cheap the finale looked. I know he wouldn't have, but I'd like to know why such a low budget! It looked terrible.
