time travel, is it possible?

LOL you know whats funny? That same device in the Napolean Dynamite movie was actually a REAL device somebody was selling on the internet (and yes, they claimed you could time travel with it). I tried looking for the webpage since but I cant find it anymore.

I believe that Time Travel will be possible someday, but it will be useless.

You all believe that if you travel back in time it will be introducing something new. But how about this theory: You already went back in time. as history is a difficult thing to understand due to omissions, alterations, embelishments, and face-lifts, who knows what REALLY happened. But consider this fact, what if when you travel back in time you find out that you were already part of the time stream? That you changed nothing in fact. You are already there because you chose to time travel.

Consider this: If an astronaut travels into space for six months at a substantial fraction of light speed and takes another six months to return to Earth, he would land in the future.

While a year will have elapsed on the astronaut's clock, tens of thousands of years may have gone by on Earth, depending on how close to light speed the astronaut traveled.

Its not a "belief".The laws of physics allow time travel to be possible

Thank you Edryder, though i think the figures are a little off its true. You can travel into the future, its just we need to build rockets that can move waaaay more faster than we have now. Then all we need to do is work out a way to stop us from being SPLATTERED at going at those speeds.

Then you put a human on that spaceship, blast them at near light speeds for a few months, they come back, hey presto they are in the year 10,000.

When we can build a ship that can go that fast, we are one step closer to traveling far into the future.

But again even today, astronaunts are traveling in the future by 1 second or so.

You're welcome

I've got it! UFO's are not alien space craft, but time travelers from the future!!! So there, time travel will be possible in the future.

There was actually a movie about that made awhile ago.

Some say that, but its never been proven.Aliens are actually futureistic humans,a far fetched idea. But the dynamics allow some elements of time travel to be possible, such as going as fast as light..but technology is still too primitive.

I don't like to say something isn't possible. That is a dangerous mindset to have. If you don't have the means to prove it, that also means you can't prove it doesn't exist. Until we develope a way to dissprove time travel, then it will always be possibility.

One sign time travel may exist is this:
The mayans described a white man who came from the sky and told them many things including when the earth would end. They even give a date in their codex: December 21, 2012. The mayans even have stone carvings of a man aboards a rocket. This could be the machine the man arrived on. One day he left them, but he promised to return. He never did. Maybe he couldn't because he could not travel back again before the earth was destroyed. The mayan callender is very acurate ( it is said to be more acurate than any modern calender), and when it says there is going to be turmoil or some other thing going on there usually is.

The mayans had many codex but when spainiards arrived the catholic church deemed these codex the devi'ls work and had them destroyed immediately and forced the mayans to conform to catholiscism. Only one page of the entire codex was saved and this is where all theis information from mayan's came from. This one page had the suppossed date of the end of the earth, and the calender that plotted future events. This one page was saved. The mayan's would not have saved this page if it was not improtant. I think the mayan's saved this page to warn humans of what the white man told them. That the earth was going to face destrution on December 21, 2012.

Most interesting enough is that on December 21, 2012 the sun of our solar system aligns perfectly with the center of our galaxy. How could the mayan's possibly have made that lucky of a guess? Scientists think the last time this happened was about 6,000 years ago. That would be about the time of the flood. One thing that could definitely screw up the oceans and other water sources is the sun. Maybe the sun is going to do something when it aligns with the center of the galaxy and destroy earth.

Why was the catholic church so addiment on destroying these documents that described unique events and possible advanced technology? People fear what they don't understand and I am sure the people of the times would not have understood these documents so they feared them. How did the mayans know all this and get their calanders more acurate than modern calenders? They had some help from the future.

Also, Ancient Egypitians from 4,000 B.C. have drawings of lightbulbs in their temples. Scientists built a lightbulb based on this egyptian design and it does work. Almost 6,000 years later we get electricity. How did they know what electricity was? The egyptians also have adrawings of air planes. Scientists also constructed one of these based on the egyptians drawings it works to. Why were the egyptians so smart? Maybe they had some help from the future.

And here is a video of one scientist built following the egyptians drawings:http://therev67.tripod.com/capture.mpg

And here is the web page:http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/chaptera/

I think the proof has been staring us in the face for thousands of years we have just not looked at it the right way.

And one reason why being able to travel forward in time is good: to save the human race.

Launch 14 humans ( 7 males and 7 females) into space at the speed of light. They return to earth ( where thousands of years have passed) and begin to reproduce and continue the human race. This would mean man would have a chance. Man is more than likely going to keep developing ways to kill each otther until one day we just kill all of us. Is it so bad o have a backup plan flying through space that can return and repopulate the earth?

Well if that is what we look like in the future...I saw we all kill ourselves. And if we did that, wouldn't time travel never have existed in the future and therefore all alien sighting would erase from our minds the nanosecond we explode??? Complicated huh???

You know, the Mayan "end of the world" theory always freaked me out becaus they were so sure thats what is going to happen (and they're calander has been pretty accurate).

BUT, if this white-man did go back to the past to tell the Mayan's that the world was gonna end (why the hell the mayans? why not some other way?), wouldnt you think that the man himself wouldnt exist if the world had already ended in his time? Or maybe if he went back in time to change the future, and he went back, maybe the future was changed so he stayed?

we should all agree to feed the poor in 2015 so if God brings Judgment Day early we can say we intended to do much better but he didn't give us a chance.

it's one of the "get out hell" loopholes I farted out the other day.

I've got it! UFO's are not alien space craft, but time travelers from the future!!! So there, time travel will be possible in the future.

that was always my thought on aliens, that they were just evolved people from the distant future.

who enjoy killing cows and cornholing drunken rednecks
They master space travel, or time travel in this instance, have advanced technologies, are a far superior race to ourselves, and like to spend their free time sticking metal probes up a redneck's bum from the Ozarks:huh:

My thoughts were these hillbillies get drunk together, one of them doddles the other, and the violated one copes with the sudden gay advance by saying an alien stuck something up his cornhole when he was sleeping.

The former sounds far more likely. Do not try to comprehend the advanced culture of future humans. That or maybe we're all just ***** in the future...

I think it's possible, but I think it is a process that requires more energy than can be produced by humans

I always thought of time travel like this.

Time is one straight line. Once time travel is discovered, you have two tangents in the time line, one at the moment you left, and another at the moment in the past/future when you re-enter.

When you re-enter, you will invariably change something creating an alternate time line tangent from the regular one. The only way to return to the main time line of how things are is to go back to exactly the moment you left. The problem is is that works if you've gone to the future. If you go to the past, change things and then zip back to the current time, everything is going to still be changed.

There is another time travel thread on a different which I posted the following on, however no-one else has replied since. Unfortunate as I would be more than happy to hear what people think of my take on it, even the debunkers :

It's that old one, the Paradox effect ................... yet again. You will never see a time travel discussion without it being mentioned. It's a simple fact of life that our current laws of physics (I say current as scientists are breaking new ground every day) cannot provide an adequate explanation as to what would happen if a time paradox occurred.

You are born.
You grow up and build a time machine.
You go back in time, shoot your Father in the head while he is a young man.
Your father dies, so you are never born, and never build a time machine.
Your father thus never dies.
You are born.
etc....

What would happen? Would the Universe implode or explode, tearing apart space and time as it gets caught in the equivalent of a 'loop' in a computer program?

Perhaps things wouldn't happen in such an explosive way - perhaps you and your father would simply cease to exist, or be forcibly removed from this reality while the rest of us plunder on regardless. Perhaps fate would determine that you never actually manage to build a time machine and thus never initiate the paradox in the first place.

The current Quantum theory proposes that there are millions of Universes, each one the result of a different outcome from a certain decision/choice. This is mind bogglingly complex and hard to comprehend, in terms of pure numbers : how many combinations of possible outcomes are available from every reaction between 2 or more elements in the entire universe? Multiplying trillions x trillions x trillions x trillions wouldn't even bring you close to the true number.

I am not a scientist and I have no answer for this conundrum. However, I do find it hard to believe that whatever force was responsible for the creation of the Universe - nature, God, the big bang, whatever - also decided on an infinite number of universes. Of course, an omnipotent being (by their definition) has no limit to their power, but one must still question the plausibility of this. And if it is nature controlling it and not a 'God', how exactly does nature implement such a device? How does it create entire new Universes based on whether I turn left or right at the end of my road?

You could dig this hole even deeper by exploring the spiritual and religious side of it too, particulaly if you're a believer in God or a supreme force which judges us all.

Let's assume there are multiple universes, designed to compensate for paradox effects caused by time travel. Lets say that in one universe, I grow up to become a murderer/rapist and in another, I am a good and lawful person.

How am I judged when I die? Is there more than one of me? Does the good one go to Heaven and the bad one to Hell, or are all the trillions of me from all the universes judged as a whole?

You can see why I have trouble with this multiple universe theory. Of course, if you believe that we simply turn to dust when we die then the matter of us being judged by a supreme being is irrelevant. Nevertheless, it's hard to accept that there is no 'definitive' me out there - just millions and millions of copies of me, each one with an equally valid claim to my being.

Now if I was God and I was designing the Universe (just one!) then surely it would be much simpler for me to instill a small failsafe. Just a little device which ensures that the paradox effect never occurs and stability is maintained. What would this device be? Who knows. It could be our totally inablity to ever manufacture a time machine;e.g., we will always be faced with obstacles and eventually deem it to be impossible, thereby protecting the integrity of this universe. It could be a simple matter of instantly removing the cause of the paradox immediately after it happens. There are hundreds of other possibilities, but all are dependent on the fact that the Universe will have protection against a paradox occurring, even if that protection may break certain laws of physics itself.

Long, long post - sorry!

Hi everyone.

I know that time travling isn't real but there is a show called Doctor Who. The Doctor can travel time with his machine called The Tardis. The doctor has a assistant called Maratha Jones who travels with him. The doctor had many many generations (10 generations). The doctor has many enemies called the judoon, daleks, cybermen, audon, the empty child, and more.

The doctor is the best one there is.

Every saturday at bbc1.

Work for the BBC much?
