A little surprised...

I expected both Kents to live through this. I'm not bothered by this. Jonathan dying the tornado is different from the usual heart attack case, unless that's tied in as well.

I wonder if Martha will make it through the film.
Maybe that is what inspires Clark to become Superman.

The problem is....

doesn't that sort of happen in STM? Pa Kent passes and Clark tells Ma Kent that it is time to go...and in essence to become Superman.

What? John dies, too? He never died in the comics, did he? I never saw any of the Superman films so I don't know about them. I don't really have a problem with it, but that just seems weird since he was alive in the animated show which I watched as a kid.

I suppose that you can't say anything ?

that said, maybe you can answer this :from what you know, does the plot propose something really that "different"?

i was intrigued by the Nolan quotes about Goyer ideas.

It's kind of a tough question to answer, because whatever we've heard, it's obviously not all there is to hear. That being said, as you can see by the spoilers, a good amount of major plot points and characterization seems very similar to what came before. So major beats that you've seen in the comics and other Superman flicks, you'll see them again.

So in other words, we haven't heard anything revolutionary thus far, but it doesn't mean there isn't something in the flick that won't reinvent the wheel. There are some other interesting plot lines and/or story points that are a little bit different even veering far away from what we've seen before. Those seem to be the exception though.

Jonathan and Martha died in the pre-crisis era. In the current era, both lived until a couple of years ago when Jonathan died from a heart attack. He died in the first Superman the movie, and he also died on Smallville.

That's pretty depressing to hear. I want a new movie for a new Superman. Not another re-hash of the same old story beats.

Thanks Showtime ;)

Also, Jonathan is dead in that recent Earth One story.

I am such a sucker for spoilers. Good stuff, though!

for some reason, Cavill kind of reminds me of Rambo......lol

maybe it's the hair......

I don't mind the death of Pa Kent. His death in All Star Superman was one of the most powerful and emotional moments in modern comics, which also really summed up the character of Superman. If Snyder can pull it off, it could be a amazing scene.

Anyone looking for some photos of the sets I have hundreds of them online. I also have some videos. Some include actual filming of the "Man of Steel".

Monday principle filming begins in Plano, IL (Smallville) which some structures will be blown up. There is a lot of action in these sequences which includes explosions, helicopters, a train, a tornado and a lot more.

Let me know what you think.

Uhhh....no thanks! :down

Maybe that is what inspires Clark to become Superman.

Like I had mentioned earlier:

I really hope that THIS is not the case, since Clark shouldn't be inspired by the death of his father, or really the death of anyone to become Superman.

If Pa Kent really does die, I will be a bit disappointed. Why does he have to die in now pretty much every recent incarnation of the story?

He died in STM. Then he died in the comics. He died on Smallville. In the Earth One story........etc.

Clark should NOT be motivated to become Superman and do good because of a death, let alone the death of a family member. Leave that to Batman and Spider-man.

With that being said, if Pa Kent does die, and if there is a eulogy scene like in that All Star Superman panel, and that scene is used to sum up the values the Kents taught to Clark.......then I guess it could be ok.....

we'll have to see.........

Apparently, Lois was in the funeral scene too so MAYBE Pa Kent dies in the present like in the Brainiac story.

I read that she is in the limo at the funeral but it's confusing. If Pa Kent dies in the present then he didn't die during the tornado, since that was an event in the past?

Yes. The Tornado is in the past, apparently in 1997, when Clark is a Kansas university student.
Jonathan's death MIGHT be in the present, caused by Zod wanting revenge on Superman. We dont know for sure. Also, the super-cry people have been talking about is young Clark, like around 5 years old. Unrelated to Pa Kent's death since he was in the hospital with him.
