TMOS Set & Official Photo Thread - Discussion Welcome - Part 1

Well, obviously. The movie has to be good. I'm sure it will be.

That's a rather small crash crater.

It does seem like we'll be getting a full origin and not just some flashbacks with a 20-something Clark. Still really hoping for that non-linear narrative.

God me too.

I mean, even back when we were all discussing whether or not this reboot should be an origin, I think most people where in agreement that a straight rehashing of the entire origin, in a linear progression, would be a tad redundant.

But meh, let's see what they do with it.

It will most likely be full blown origin. Many times when a studio wants to stress that this movie is different than the past set, they go with an origin. (The Amazing Spider-Man, Batman Begins) I doubt Superman will be any different. But, hey, I want to see his origin...

I do too! This is an entirely new take on the character (on film) and I believe that it's needed to separate itself from the previous installments. I believe that GA is very familiar with the current movie franchise's take on the origin, and I think this will be one of the ways that it distances itself. Even though Superman Returns is a newer movie, it's still based off of an origin that was shown almost 30 years ago (at that time). It will be quite nice to have a fresh take on the origin, if that is indeed the direction this movie takes.

As far as the "crash crater", it's possible that this relates to Zod, because I doubt that he came to Earth in a ship. I don't know, but I can't wait to find out. I agree that this "crater" is WAY too small to have been left by a ship.

Like i said, maybe the ship didnt crash but landed. It wouldnt make a huge crater if the ship just landed.

True; I'm just worried at the fact that the film is now being released between the release dates of two established franchises (Iron Man 3 and Thor 2), whose properties will only be further enhanced in popularity when the Avengers come out next year.

Also, even if MOS receives critical acclaim like X Men: First Class did, it doesn't mean that it'll make a lot of money, well at least not the type that Warner Bros. might be thinking.

Timing and Promotion along with Good Word of Mouth are going to be key assets to MOS's BO success.
You never know, they COULD move it again.

I agree about the crater. Just looking at the how's of it, i'm thinking either a body ( supes, zod's?) is thrown during a fight and caused it, or, a heat vision miss at full power, or, a missile miss by the military.

Oh dear lord, I hope not. Truth be told, I'm so PISSED that I have to go through another semester in College before being able to see MOS.

I wish they would have pushed the Hobbit's date back instead since it has a better chance of going up against Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 when it comes to guaranteed Box Office Results.

I'm not trying to say that Superman's a unpopular character, but I don't want to leave anything up to chance right now.

The hobbit would have did well in any month..If it were up to me, I would have moved it and gave supes christmas.

I see some of you guys are talking about why didn't anybody know about the incoming ship. We heard early on that there will be certain characters who are monitoring Smallville and possibly a mysterious kid who lives there. Not sure if this was kept in the story, but it is surely interesting if it is. Also not sure if this has anything to do with the ship landing.

Its original Christmas 2012 release date was much, much better because it would have been months after The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man. So you wouldn't have gotten a "Another superhero movie?" reaction from people because there wasn't any other ones in the market. Thus making it unique.

Not to mention, The Lone Ranger is DOA and take The Hobbit outta there and there's a big empty slot to fill for a big popcorn movie. Which is why both Avatar and Sherlock Holmes were so popular and successful back during the 2009 Holiday season.

Interesting to see how it plays out, but I liked Superman in Christmas if it wasn't crowded.

Sounds like we may have a little bit of X-files, MIB, and project blue book mixed in :oldrazz:.

A suggestion: I think mods should open a Spoiler thread and Non-Spoiler thread. This way there's a bit more control on what we as fans want to know and what we don't want to know about production. I have accidentally read a couple of spoilers in other threads and want to avoid reading more . . . :cmad:

Seconded. It would be greatly appreciated.

While I understand your concerns about spoilers, this is a thread in the Man of Steel Spoiler section of the boards. So technically, coming here means you don't care about spoilers being present. Just playing devil's advocate!

*Edit: Nevermind, I see that there isn't a Man of Steel "spoilers" and "non-spoiler" section...carry on!

Anyways, i think it is going to be more serious and better than STM. That movie is really dated nowadays and thank god we're getting a modern interpretation. In that movie, the ship just crashes on earth in the middle of the day, nobody sees it, they spend so much time at the crash site changing the flat tire and no government shows up. It is pretty ridiculous when you analyze it.

BTW, did you guys notice how the corn is bent and affected by the landing too? Pretty cool.

lol, thats hilarous, you seriously think Zack Snyder can make a better movie than Donnor's STM? you must be joking.

The day Zack Snyder makes a better movie than the original Reeve Superman movie is the moment when i'll be crowned king of England.

You people must be on crack to think Snyder can suddenly conjure up a masterpiece.

Some of you lot are seriously deluded.

Despite many positive aspects about this movie, a lot of aspects are weak and leave a lot to be desired.

Put it this way, you ain't going to see the iconic moment like when Reeve first does the Superman shirt rip before flying up and doing the helicopter rescue.

What you will get from Snyder is some slow motion erection peppered with cgi all over the place.

I bet Snyder hasn't even heard of a flying rig or even the techniques used in the original series.

Hell, even Bryan Singer failed to provide us with decent flying scenes, and he was having a severe homage hardon for the Donnor movies.

Wake up people. Be concerned over this movie, just because some of you have a stiffy over nolan's name being on this doesn't automatically make it as good as The Godfather.

The way some people talk on here, you would think Zack Snyder is some sort of genius, when in actual fact he is a hack, who's only made 1 or 2 decent films in his entire career.

Already been addressed a couple of pages back. Not everyone wants plot details blabbed out in the open. So spoilers will be tagged.

Let's cover that with spoiler tags, kiddos.

Well, you must be omniscient then.

Having one or two decent films under your belt makes you a talented director... Not a hack.

I personally do not like STM, or what Donner did to to the Superman franchise.

So how is it ridiculous for ME to think this movie is going to be better than STM? That I will like Cavill more than Reeve. That with all the people on board, all the technical capabilities we have in this modern age, and all the incredible modern Superhero films we have as inspiration to follow, it might just end up being a better film, at least to me, that something decades old that even my Mum thinks is cheesy.

Every director starts somewhere.

It is highly possible that 30 years down the line, people will be referring to the Snyder/Goyer/Nolan team up as the thing that saved Superman, when nothing else could.

could be that they are going to need it to be CGI because there is no way you can film that epic of a crash without CGI
