It was so ridiculous in the first place. It made no sense whatsoever. Superman forgot his costume and had time to go back to the Planet to change it?

First time I've seen the original shot.

I believe they should re edit returns and give us the original film as intended. It may make it better as the daredevil directors cut did.

Probably not. And what we did see was what the director ultimately intended...he wasn't forced to cut scenes.

Yeah, they were just fools when writing and shooting the movie.

Either that or Batman & Robin. I don't care to go check it out! :oldrazz:

Me neither. . . :oldrazz:

^ And not a pathetic CGI shirt rip. Can't get over how lame and unnecessary that was in SR.

Yeah, dark-b told you why that scene came out looking that bad. That is one major scene Singer really messed up.

I swear i'll prolly stand and clap if they do it right.

Me too. Im pretty confident Snyder's gonna deliver.

Chris Farley IS Superman.

Best casting ever!!!! :oldrazz:

It was pretty ridiculous.....all this 'I forgot my suit, so I have to go all the way back up to the DP and sneakily change in a closet, look at a pic of my parents, then sneak back out and through a window....'

...all while the shuttle/plane is hurtling out of control and can blow up at any second. Sure...it can wait five minutes or so, right? :O :oldrazz:

It's not ridiculous that they cut the scene...it's ridiculous that they wrote and shot it to begin with. ;)

Really? Bloody stupid decision. The return to krypton scene is great.

I agree. They should've kept it for the theatrical release.

I would love to see a Director's cut with that scene on and others that may have been cut off because of "time constraints".

Indeed sir. All the deleted scenes on the bluray certainly have more character for clark. Even martha getting campanianship. Clark reading all those papers in the cellar.

I just think its better.

You might be able to do a bit of that with wire-work/rigs. But the real dynamism would come from CG animation (Fleischer style would be nice). With a guy on wires, you have to deal with real physics and g-forces. And if you fudge it by under-cranking the camera, it looks wonky.

[/FONT](Btw, looks like ES could be dead.)

Yeah, I mentioned before that there will be heavy CG work any way you look at it. The real test lies in how it's put together and composed with the sequences, and not so much whether it should be used x amount or not.

I still think a degree of mo-cap could benefit the actual movements of the main figure and make it more 'life-like'. What's was nice in Iron Man is that they mo-capped a person in a freefall simulator to get a real sense of movement with zero gravity in the air...the little random adjustments and non-linear movements, etc. I think it added a lot in a very subtle way that's much harder to capture with just animating CG models.

We did see the director's cut...all the cut scenes were Singer's decision for the sake of the film itself, not because of time constraints.

:wow: didn't know the Blu Ray had those deleted scenes. Gonna have to buy it.

I hope WB gives Singer the chance to include those scenes on a director's cut, special edition or whatever edition just like they did with Donner's Superman Cut.

Not really...it would have added yet more slowness and gloominess to the beginning of a film that was already slow and sullen to begin with. these kinds of decisions are made quite oftem by filmmakers...in that something that looks cool by itself or on paper ultimately detracts from the movie as a whole because of pacing and/or placement...things you really can't tell until you have the movie edited together. But that's a big part of what editing is...no just cutting and dissolving, but assembling the flow of a film...and making the harder decisions to cut things that in and of themselves look cool etc., but ultimately aren't worth the real-estate they take up.

Well, I thought the KTK was pretty good and shouldnt have been cut. What i think he should've cut was Lex with the widow. That scene was ridiculous.

Again....Superman Returns WAS the director's cut...he said so himself. And the 'Donner Cut' of SII was a mish-mashed project started by some editor not involved with the original film, and just signed-off by Donner for release to finally air-out his grudges over being fired.

The SR released in theaters is the intended version by the filmmaker. Any sort of 'extended version' would only be addressing an outsider's desire for them, not the filmmaker's.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) they cut down because of time. I think he should've left the Return to Krypton scenes and those that appear on the Blu Ray, like Sherlock wrote. I recently saw the Return to Krypton scenes and I think they should've been added to the film. I remember watching Superman Returns on theater and was a bit confused when he said that he returned to Krypton and said that: "That place was a graveyard." It was later on that I learned there were other scenes not included on the film.

Anyways, do you guys see a curl?

His hair looks so much better here than in the official pic.

Me personally. The original idea was clark decided not to become superman again.if it wasn't for lois being in trouble he wouldn't have shown up. That's why he's not wearing the suit and forgets as his instincts took over and shirt ripped even with no suit.

I enjoyed the deleted scenes and believe it would of enhanced certain misgivings.

Of course this is just my view.

I thought it was a nice scene itself, but it was th right decision to cut it because...

a) it was too dark and sullen a way to introduce the 'new' Superman for a new (albeit 'vague sequel') movie

b) it would have been better used as a shorter flashback somewhere else in the movie (like the rooftop interview with Lois), not the beginning...but the rest of the film wasn't written or filmed to accommodate it being inserted

c) it only showed what he saw while he was away...nothing that happened really gave us anything that would tie in or come into play later on. the film wasn't missing anything without it, so it didn't really need it for anything.

It was cool to look at and all, but ultimately, the movie didn't need it...and luckily, they cut it so not to further bog down an already sluggish pace in the beginning.

could be a curl indeed, and the sides of the hair may be thinner too!!

It does look way better than the official pic. I do see a black line on the widow's peak area but it's hard to tell. I hope it's the curl.

I agree. If it wasn't for your previous post I wouldn't have learned the content of those extra scenes. Yeah, Im a bit of a collection freak when it comes to Superman films. :oldrazz:

Mr singer don't be so hard on yourself.

;)

I read somewhere (can't remember where) they cut down because of time.

http://www.supermanhomepage.com/movies/movies.php?topic=sr-cutscenes
But cutting the sequence was "just one of those things that you bravely do" to improve the movie, Singer said. "Because no one told me to do it, to make these cuts. I had no restrictions. I had no time restrictions. There was no pressure whatsoever. I just felt, ... the movie doesn't need this. And I did something else instead."

I think he should've left the Return to Krypton scenes and those that appear on the Blu Ray, like Sherlock wrote. Subject-wise, sure it could have been a nice addition. But pacing-wise and placement, no...it needed to go..for the sake of the film as a whole. If it could have been used a different way, it could have stayed...but it, and the rest of the film, weren't really made to have it used a different way without rewrites or reshoots....way after shooting had ended and deep into editing. So it had to go. It happens.

But SR's problem wasn't with what was cut out of the film...it was with what was IN the film, and couldn't be helped with what was cut out. Slow, sullen story and mood...the kid....lack of action/fighting....it needed another story altogether, not those extra scenes.
