I don't see what they were worried about; as far as I can see, the alien design along his torso does a well enough job of breaking up the sea of blue and divert my attention from his super package. Better than Jim Lee's comic design does, that's for damn sure. Perhaps it looks worse in better clarity? Pending final judgement.

Mid-section looks fine to me. I like how "alien" the belt looks.
Middle button, and separated side parts, as well as the silver designs on the side of the torso.
