I have to disagree. Just because it's a famous Superman slogan doesn't mean they have to insert it into the film. Just like"Look up in the sky, its a bird, its's a plane" and "up up and away" doesn't need to be there. I don't mind him standing in front of an American flag and defending American troops but I want to avoid cliches.

Small town America is a big part of Superman, although I feel that should not be represented as nationalistic patriotism- it is better shown through his values and the way that he interacts with people.

In any case, Superman should also transcend the parochial American nature of his upbringing: Jor-El sent him to Earth, not America per se, and he has saved the world enough times to be a global icon. His Kansas roots are important, but he should grow to be a part of something bigger.

Yep, without a doubt.

That's not an official photo. It's a manip. Wrong thread.

He's just a modern messianic figure, his presence invokes admiration and hope as well as fear and hate. The whole point of Superman (according to Jor-el) is to inspire people to be righteous and lead the way towards being a better race of people.

Again, I don't see Jesus connection? I get the Messiah angle, but not the specific that it's Christ-Like because Superman doesn't preach. Superman does good things, that lead people to do good things, so it's not through words but action.

Nothing new, but I thought it was at least worth posting.

It's been a long time since I read any bits of the bible, but arguably wasn't Christ often portrayed in such a way? Travelling around, doing miracles and leading by example and then only when people were inspired by his good deeds leave them with a lesson. Like I said, it's been a while but that is what I kind of remember...

I want a MoS app for outside the US dag nabbit!

^ This :cwink:

I swear, some people get so bent out of shape over the stupidest things sometimes.

Some of those slogans originated in radio - where action had to be described rather than depicted (obviously :cwink:). They don’t make a lot of sense in a movie.

I think any Superman movie should steer clear away from being known as Christ like or any type of religion. Why should we mix fiction with fiction? Superman is an alien.... It's a total contradiction to Christianity.

Well, allegory doesn't require the two scenarios to be compatible in he same reality. That's rather the point, really.
