I do now think Garfield will be a footnote, even though I quite liked him in TASM2. Maguire has the nostalgia factor, along with being apart of good films. And ultimately, Holland will run away with the top dog mantle. His films will very likely deliver the goods, the characterisation will be on point, and there'll be plenty of films with him. He'll be well known.

Holland had great writing and effects but he deserves credit for nailing Parker's wit, wonder, innocence and warmness.

And if we can judge the best Banner and Hulk based on Avengers I think it's fair to rank Holland's Spider-man. This was way more than a glorified cameo.

I think Tom nailed why I love this character. He's a young kid navigating a big world. A grown ups world. He has interests in science and comics just like me, and always tries his best. He's juggling life and trying to get through. Tom was a normal kid, with elements of shyness and awkwardness but when that mask goes on, he's escaping from all that. He's now Spider-Man.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man has evolve with each actor to me,Tobey a better Peter and Andrew a better Spider-Man, so with Tom's performance he nailed both characters. IMO

It may be too early, but I have to go with Tom. The moment I saw him in his first scene in Queens, I felt I was watching Peter Parker. He nailed everything about the character. Tobey was pretty good, particularly in the first two movies. Garfield I NEVER felt I was watching Peter.

As someone had posted, Tom felt like a live action Spectacular Spider-Man/Peter Parker. That was an accurate assessment and highest compliment!

For me, this is not to say that on average, Tom was a better combo of the character. In this scenario, I think Tom was a better Peter than Tobey and Tom was a better Spider-Man than Andrew.

Yep fair enough.

all of this.

Tom's Peter was instantly likeable, unlike Garfield's Peter who I immediately disliked.

the way they wrote and characterized Garfield's Peter was just so, so wrong.

the way they wrote and characterized Tom's Peter was just so, so right.

my only fear is that the solo Spidey films will be under a different creative team. so, hopefully, they can keep the same characterization of Peter that was introduced in CW.

Tom Holland > Tobey Maguire >>>>>> Edward Cullen 2.0 :o

If Garfield was Edward Cullen then Maguire was Spongebob.

Spongebob is way cooler than Edward Cullen.

Tom>>Tobey>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Peter Benjamin Cullen

At first I was a bit skeptical about Marvel/Sony going for a much younger route with Tom Holland since I didn't think he could pull it off but then after seeing what few previous scenes Tom as Spidey had in Civil War he convinced me, he totally blew both Maguire and Garfield in the snappy one liners department and plus Tom really looked like he was enjoying himself, big kudos for Marvel or Sony or whoever in the casting dpt I think Tom will be this generations new face when people talk about Spider-Man.

And when you look back its noticeable now that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were just flat out too old to pass off as high schoolers.

Also more popular lol

No need to insult Optimus Prime by comparing him to Garfield's Peter. :cwink:

It's still early to tell but it looks like Holland could run away with it.

I'm voting Holland. Feige, the Russos and Tom all understood what needed to be done with the character. It's pretty much perfect. We have to wait to see if Jon Watts will allow things to remain that way.

Haven't seen much from Holland, but what I did see in Civil War is my favorite bit of Spider-man i've ever seen.

Holland only had about 20 minutes of screentime in Civil War and I think he's already made more quips there than Tobey did throughout all of the Raimi movies combined.

That's the truth. :funny:

And Holland is at the right age where he can rack maybe 4 or 5 Spider-Man films in the can before he gets "too old" to play him.
