Tokyo Mirage Session #FE

I guess I made a big deal about this because it wasn't what I was expecting when the first trailer came out (which, I was one of the few people that was against the idea). Didn't help that it took nearly two years to actually hear news from it..... And they drop this on me.... I'll give them that it's nothing what I expected.

Well they promised a cross between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem. That is what they have given us. So it is what they promised.

I think it is important to realize it is a hybrid game, not a crossover. Granted, we had nothing to really go on, so some shock at the reveal is fine. But, after looking into the Persona games, I think it will be fun.

Well, I honestly didn't know what to expect to begin with really. I don't even think we knew if IS or Atlus was the developer originally. All we knew was that it would be in a modern setting.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Character Designer On His New Challenge. April 22, 2015 . 2:31am

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem character designer toi8 posts a message to the game’s official blog.

toi8 is known for having done artwork for .hack//The Movie and for a Chain Chronicle movie, but his next big role is that of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s character designer. Today, he shared a little more about himself on the game’s official blog. Here’s what he says:
Hello. I’m toi8, and I’ll be in charge of the main character designs for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. As for when we began talking about this title, it was around the time I finished working on a piece of light novel cover art. It was around the time that I was handling one-shot work, and asked myself “what should I do next?”

As part of the generation that grew up on Nintendo consoles such as the Famicom and Super Famicom, the name “Nintendo” has a very special meaning to me. I remember being very excited upon hearing about the [Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem] collaboration.

Years later, I’ve finally been able to see it take form right before my eyes, and I find myself filled with deep emotion.

Now, let’s quickly talk a little bit about the character designs. The stage of the game is set in Shibuya, and the background shows a gorgeous world, so the character design’s direction will go with a highly saturated, gorgeous look.

Everything I’ve drawn up until now has been low saturation, so this will be a challenge of colors!
toi8 then explains that illustrators often have opportunities to do “single-sheet” work (for example, a single piece of concept art or a cover), whereas designers take on more extensive responsibilities. Personally speaking, he prefers the former, but since he’s a character designer on all of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, he has accepted this role as a personal challenge.
I’ve received help from all kinds of people, and as a result we’ve achieved the characters and the backgrounds shown in trailer, which is something I haven’t been able to do up until now, and I’m proud of it.

As far as characters go, we have discussions such as “what we should do in terms of bust size?” with suggestions like “they could be large and have glasses to go with them,” and “no, glasses are no good,” and so on.

Specific details on the characters of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem are light, but for now, toi8 leaves us with the above image.

Why would you post that worthless piece of "news". Though I guess it is helpful to know how sexist the designs will be, not that the trailer was enough evidence...

one of the head reporters / mod said it's about marketi to a certai audience to a degree that want more adult features / themes like the Otaku or some part of (not all) teen market with in japan.

example:

I get people's concern for over doing it on the fan servicing. To single out bust size does raise some red flags when we all know there are plenty of other physical attributes involved in character design that could have been chosen as an example. Either way, I could really care less about character design, and any real chance of me buying this comes down solely to how it plays. I refuse to care until I at least get one gameplay trailer.
I know American gamers are primarily older know, which could explain a lot more of the vocal griping I have seen about these fan servicings, but what does Japan's market look like agewise?

Ishaan Mod Chris Hodges • 2 hours ago

It depends on the game in question. There's still a thriving kids' market, as evidenced by Yo-kai Watch, Pokémon, Monster Hunter, and so on, but that's a very harsh, very competitive space and very few publishers are capable of making any real headway there.
There's also a relatively healthy market for mainstream adults that play games, but since this audience can be quite discerning, most publishers would rather not make the effort, and so this segment of the market is in danger of falling by the wayside on consoles and handhelds. Some examples of games that have managed to appeal to this audience are Dark Souls, Bravely Default, Fire Emblem, Persona, SMT, Style Savvy, Animal Crossing, and so on.
The easiest markets to cater to are high school kids and the otaku niche, which is why we see so many publishers go after both those. They're fairly easily appeased and judging by sales trends over the last five or so years, a semi-competent market analyst could narrow their tastes down on a sheet of paper and hand it to a design department to implement. It's a very predictable audience.

Shippoyasha Ishaan • 21 minutes ago

I'm not sure I agree that catering to otaku is as simple as a design by checkboxes at all. Otaku games still needs a certain hook and certain levels of quality to be something that gains a sizable audience. And I don't think I can agree that the market is easily appeased. Fans still haven't gotten very satisfactory adaptations to VNs and anime/manga and it's always been a hunt to get really faithful adaptations. Some may sell on name brand alone or as fan-content, but they aren't generally regarded as masterpieces in the fandoms. The games still needs to be something that stands out by their own merit or at least do the source justice. And there aren't that many that do that. So I don't really agree the fans don't expect more out of these 'otaku games'.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Being Directed By Radiant Historia Director.June 9, 2015 . 3:00am

Radiant Historia director Mitsuru Hirata is directing Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem character designer toi8 previously talked about the new challenges he’s taking on for the upcoming game. Today, the official blog features another member of the development staff: chief director Mitsuru Hirata.

Here’s what Hirata wrote on the blog:
Nice to meet you. I am the chief director for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Mitsuru Hirata of Atlus. I’ve previously worked as the director for Radiant Historia, and as the supporting director of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey.

It’s been about two months ago since officially announcing this title, and I’m sure many of you were surprised by it. Even I told myself ‘to think that a collaboration with Fire Emblem would shape up like this!’ and I was really surprised. Even though I’m the one developing it.

Looking back 25 years ago, I have some memories of when I first encountered Fire Emblem. It had a package design with a soft touch that reminded me of a certain popular feature anime film. Its game characteristics managed to crush the young me, who thought at the time, “I’ve played so many tough-as-nails role-playing games on PC up until now, so this should be easy enough for me!”

Then, as I played, each time I lost an ally, I would mutter to myself: “T-this is the devil.” And in the end of my first run, I eventually found myself incapacitated, since I didn’t have enough units to continue fighting, and I wept and started the game over from scratch…

It was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, I tell you…

“Oh, so that’s how you use that word! Our predecessors had some good quotes! Ahahaha!!” These were some of the things I thought while continuously pressing the reset button in despair on a daily basis.

Reset > Sulk in bed > Eat > Try again > Reset > Sulk in bed > Take a bath > Try again > Reset… on an endless repetition. It was like a toxin that kept me playing countless times even while grieving, and I was completely absorbed.

And that is how I met the game that shaved off parts of my innocence. After that, fate repeated itself once more, and my Super Famicom’s reset button actually broke, so I had to buy another one. Even on the Game Boy Advance, I was busy reading the enemy’s moves two or three steps ahead, and before I realized it, I had ended up staying on the train until the last stop… and the ride home in a taxi, that also brings back some good memories… haha…

That said, there’s something I must confess…

I’m actually pretty terrible at strategy games (lol). It kind of sounds like a situation that I should be slapped on the head for saying, like “… hey!” but the truth is, I love Fire Emblem.

Before Fire Emblem, I believe most of the so-called genre of strategy games consisted of game characteristics such as “win accordingly, don’t emphasize too much over that process, a strategy to win is more important than position,” and so on. For this reason, units weren’t treated as importantly, and the tide of battle was easily turned using numbers. Such developments were frequent… and I was just not great with that mindset.

However, Fire Emblem was a strategy game with a completely different approach. Paying attention to the units is important! If they die, they won’t come back! You can’t win with just numbers either! Rather than just claiming victory, there’s also the birth of the drama that arises from having your favorite unit win through battles (even if they’re weak).

… I was mesmerized. As I was playing, I realized that each space I moved a unit, each time I hit the enemy, I was writing my own story about it all in my head.

“Ack! Hear me, the now deceased Draug… I, the Armor Knight, shall take on this castle wall in your stead! The rest of you sneak around for a surprise attack!”
“R-Roger!”
“Only I, the Pegasus Knight, can go over these mountains! I must catch up to the others! Their lives are in danger!”

And that’s kind of what it was like… of course, that might be a bit too much. However, I feel that this is Fire Emblem’s greatest charm. I believe that the importance of characters is also a common element in the games we make at Atlus. In a sense, I think that a collaboration between Fire Emblem and Atlus is as natural as it gets! (lol)

Fire Emblem is a title that is full of memories, intermingled with love and hate, something I can’t express with one word, and before I knew it, I’d gone from being on the side of playing it onto the side that is making it. This must be fate. The femme fatale that toyed with my youth! I’ve been waiting for you! My long-lasting grudge!

It’s kind of like finally being able to meet the person I’ve longed for over many years, but since the development’s first day and several years of change afterwards, we were able to show you guys the trailer, which is the fruition of my own “memories of 25 years”.

As far as what kind of changes, actual game content, and such, I hope we get to talk about it next time. This time, I wanted to first talk about what Fire Emblem means to me (lol).

Lastly, here’s a peek at a screenshot on something that’s currently in development…

This is a look at a certain dungeon. It was shown a bit in the trailer during the Nintendo Direct back on April 2nd, but do you notice any differences from then if you compare it? The floor’s texture has improved, there are additional objects [in the environment]… and so on.

The April 2nd trailer isn’t the final visual representation of the game. We’ll continue improving on the quality from this point on, so please look forward to it!

And that’s how the staff is zealously developing Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem at the moment. I believe we’ll be able to reveal new information soon, so again, please look forward to it!

In addition to Hirata, Eiji Ishida who directed Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is co-directing the game. Ishida is serving as development director.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem is in development for Wii U.

Why Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Has Two Directors. June 9, 2015 . 12:32pm

Atlus’ Eiji Ishida is also co-directing Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, and he has his own thoughts on the development process.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem chief director Mitsuru Hirata recently shared his thoughts on the Fire Emblem series. Additionally, Atlus and Nintendo have revealed on the official blog that Atlus’ Eiji Ishida is also working as a director on the game. He shared his own personal message for fans, and you can read it below.

Here’s what Ishida wrote:

It’s a pleasure to meet you all!
I am Atlus’ Eiji Ishida, the development director and the chief designer for battles. I previously worked as the chief designer for Shin Megami Tensei IV and the development director of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey.

Hirata, who was the supporting director of Strange Journey, and also provided countless “questionable” maps (in the best way possible, Hirata-san!) in the level design for the game, is who I’m teaming up with as the director of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

This time around, I’d like to talk about the participation process and a bit of the battle parts that I’ve been in charge of. I appreciate your ongoing support.

I will never forget it, that winter of 2013—the shock from that video!

At the time, I was in the middle of happily developing Shin Megami Tensei IV, and as I watched that announcement video from Nintendo Direct along with the rest of you guys, I recall feeling “slightly” lightheaded. (Sorry, I lied. I felt “very” lightheaded.)

“Atlus are making… Fire Emblem? Will it be a strategy game? An RPG? Law? Chaos?”

With all the unimaginable possibilities in mind, to think of it as the first HD console project, and a collaboration that is also a new IP. The designs, the worldview, and construction would be all from scratch.

“Oooohhhh! (that’s the sound I made while watching) It’s going to be a project that has mountains of hurdles…. give it your best, guys! (I’ll be cheering from afar!)”

Well, at that point, it was completely other people’s business. (lol)

Then, about seven months later…
Before I realized it, I had somehow become the team development director for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. And no, I wasn’t living in a parallel world, but in order to keep up with the volume of working associated with developing on an HD console, it was decided that the game would be developed with double directors.

Also, it was no longer just other people’s business. The mountains of hurdles that I previously mentioned were what was now being demanded [of me]. Naturally, I felt excited, but I remember having a strong feeling of how it was also the start of some very tough days.

However, once I actually became part of the development team and started the job, things were rather different from what I had expected. Of course, there wasn’t a difference in how tough things were, but as long as we properly kept the direction and theme together, it felt like it was OK to run with it any way we wanted; and with the freedom that you wouldn’t expect from a collaboration title, we’ve been able to make a unique and colorful world for this game.

I’ve yet to to work on such a title, that is as bright and splendid, and making it has been very fun. Information on the above girl, the one that was shown splendidly dancing while using the red-haired boy as a platform, will be revealed next time, so please look forward to it.

Also, I believe we’ll explain it more next time, but it’s been very fun and refreshing to work together with the creators from outside Atlus.
Of course, the game will be full of the Atlus RPG essence, so please look forward to that as well!
Huh?
I was just about to end it on a good note, and I realized that I don’t have the time to talk about battles. Since we’ll have to leave the battle talk for next time, I’ll leave you with the following.

About the important auto-battle speed that Atlus titles are known for.
Naturally, Shim Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s will be at a demonic speed!

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Story Details From E3 2015. June 16, 2015 . 1:51pm

Nintendo describe Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem as an RPG involving a struggle between “the worlds of glamour and darkness”.

You can call it Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem—which is what we’ll be calling it until it has an actual name—or Genei Ibun Roku #FE, but it was at Nintendo’s E3 2015 Digital Event, and this morning the publisher also released new screenshots of the upcoming RPG, along with a few details.

Nintendo describe Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem as an RPG involving a struggle between “the worlds of glamour and darkness”. In the game, you play as “Mirage Masters,” who have big dreams of becoming great entertainers. They polish their singing and acting skills in the entertainment business in their daily lives, working their way up in the world as artists.

Meanwhile, there are “Mirages,” who are beings of immeasurable power that come from another dimension. They’ve begun to invade the world, and some of them are evil, while others are drawn to humans with tremendous creative potential, and have shared their powers with them to safeguard humanity. This is probably why the main characters are called Mirage Masters.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will be released in 2016 for Wii U.

Tons Of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Details From E3 2015. June 17, 2015 . 11:32am

Nintendo showed off a a good deal of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem gameplay footage this morning. Here are all the details.

Nintendo showed off a a good deal of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem gameplay footage during their Treehouse Live@E3 stream this morning. The stream revealed a bunch of new details about the game, and we’ve listed them below. Before you read on, you might want to check out a brief story summary for the game.

  • Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem takes place in Tokyo, like a lot of other Atlus games. You’ll see districts like Shibuya and Harajuku that have been modelled after their real-life counterparts, albeit with a few changes made in support of gameplay.

  • For example; the real Shibuya is a fairly large district but has been made a little more compact in Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Meanwhile, Harajuku in real life has narrow streets, but they’ve been widened in the game. Atlus staff had to wake up early in the morning so that they could take reference photos of different areas around Tokyo while people weren’t up and about.

  • The way the city looks changes based on events in the game. For example, once Tsubasa has made her debut as a performer, the posters around the city will change to reflect that, and you’ll hear her song playing in convenience stores and the like.

  • Aside from the Mirages and Mirage Masters, there are lots of other little references to both the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem franchises. For example, there’s a Hee-Ho Mart in Shibuya, which is a convenience store. This store is run by a shopkeeper named Shio who looks like Anna from the Fire Emblem games.

  • Once you’re in a dungeon, aggro works just like it does in Shin Megami Tensei IV and the recent Persona games. Enemies will spot you and begin making their way toward you. If you can hit them with your weapon before they make contact, you’ll stun them, and this will give you an advantage at the start of the battle.

  • Every dungeon within the game has its own gimmicks and themes. For example; the dungeon shown off during the livestream was modelled after the 109 building in Shibuya and was themed around fashion. Other dungeons will have other gimmicks. The giant maid costume statue you see above was part of one such puzzle.

  • Once you get into battles, the battle system contains traces of both Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem. The weapon triangle from Fire Emblem is supposedly in the game, and so is the focus on exploiting enemy weaknesses from Shin Megami Tensei.

  • If you target an enemy with an attack they’re weak to, the game will let you know with a green exclamation mark, just like in Shin Megami Tensei. You won’t know the enemy’s weakness right away, though—you’ll have to learn enemy weaknesses by engaging them and hitting them with an attack they’re weak to, which is again similar to how Shin Megami Tensei works.

  • Characters can have Dual Arts attacks together, for which they pair up. These become available as the bond between two characters strengthens, and we assume the dialogue options play a role in this. Also, depending on the two characters in question, the Dual Arts look different. For example, Tsubasa and Eleonora have an attack where they’re singing together, while Toma and another female character share somewhat of a rivalry with each other, so their Dual Art consists of them trying to outdo each other.

  • Fire Emblem levelling up music plays when your characters level up.

  • The enemy you see above is a boss based on Gangrel from Fire Emblem: Awakening. He’s a Mirage that has taken possession of a fashion photographer, and you’ll battle him to free said photographer at some point in the game.

  • The Wii U GamePad serves as your cellphone in Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. You’ll get messages from your friends, asking where you are and what you’re up to. You’ll be able to contact them using your phone, and there are dialogue options within the text messages as well.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem is in development for Wii U. The game will be released in North America and Europe sometime in 2016.

Meet Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s Entertaining Main Characters. June 17, 2015 . 12:26pm

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s official website was recently updated with a look at some of the main characters.

Atlus shared new story details for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s story during this year’s E3, along with a look at its latest trailer. The official website was also recently updated with additional details and a look at some of the main characters.

Itsuki Aoi (CV: Ryouhei Kimura):
Mirage: Chrom

Itsuki was an ordinary high school student, but after a certain event, he has awakened as a Mirage Master. He was practically forced into going to the show biz production company called “Fault Entertainment,” where his friends gather, but he doesn’t exactly share their love for the entertainment world.

Itsuki is described as a responsible and honest character, but he also has a bit of an obstinate side as well.

Tsubasa Oribe (CV: Inori Minase):
Mirage: Sheeda

Tsubasa is Itsuki’s childhood friend, and she has also awakened as a Mirage Master together with him. She joins Fault Entertainment as a new idol. She’s a foolhardy but hard worker, and stays focused once her mind is set on something. She’s never discouraged by her constant blunders, and has an optimistic personality. She’s a big fan of her senior, named Kiria.

Toma Akagi (CV: Yuki Ono):
Mirage: Kain

Toma is Itsuki and Tsubasa’s classmate. He’s a Mirage Master of Fault Entertainment who loves “henshin” (transformation) heroes. He’s a little frivolous in his speech and actions, but he’s the type that puts action before thoughts. He’s always wishing that he could be a hero, and is currently aiming to get the lead role in a Tokusatsu program called “Masqueraider”.

Kiria Kurono (CV: Yoshino Nanjo):

Kiria is a top musician who is supported by many young fans. She simply goes by “Kiria” and is a Mirage Master with high-level fighting abilities. She’s also referred to as the “cool beauty,” but not many people know her in her private life. She’s a senior figure who leads Itsuki and the others.

Eleonora Yumiziru (CV: Ayane Sakura):

Eleonora is a Mirage Master and successful actress. She’s half Caucasian and admires Hollywood actresses. Her nickname is “Ellie”. She’s younger than Itsuki, but she’s a celebrity, and is his senior when it comes to her career as a Master. She behaves like an older sister and has a caring personality, and is one of the best looking members of Fault.

Maiko Shimazaki (CV: Ami Koshimizu):

Maiko is the president of the production company “Fault Entertainment” that recruits Mirage Masters. She is like a mother figure to the Mirage Masters. She’s a drinker, and has worked as a gravure idol in the past. Maiko is sharp and has quick wits, and cares about her production company comrades more than anyone.

Tiki (CV: Sumire Morohoshi):

Tiki is the key visual character of a vocal software called “Singaloid TiKi” that is currently a huge hit among Internet users. It’s currently an ongoing trend with the youngsters to upload new songs by Tiki on the Internet.

Meet Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s Powerful Fire Emblem Characters. June 17, 2015 . 1:02pm

Meet three of the “Mirages” from Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

In Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, the main characters will get help from characters that arrived from a different dimension and have the ability to transform into weapons. The official website introduces us to three “Mirages” from the RPG.

As seen in our earlier report, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s story is about the struggle between the “the worlds of glamour and darkness,” where you’ll play as “Mirage Masters” with big dreams of becoming entertainers. Meanwhile, there are “Mirages,” who are beings of immeasurable power from another dimension.

These Mirages have begun to invade the world, and while some of them are evil, others are drawn to humans and will lend their powers to protect humanity.

Chrom (CV: Tomokazu Sugita):
Master: Itsuki Aoi

Chrom is a prince from a land in another dimension, and he’s a “Lord” Mirage. Since transferring to this world, he has lost his memories. He has a courageous personality, and a strong sense of justice. While in combat, he changes into a sword as a trusted partner for Itsuki, who isn’t very experienced in combat.

Sheeda (CV: Saori Hayami):
Master: Tsubasa Oribe

A “Pegasus Knight” Mirage, and Tsubasa’s partner. Similar to Chrom, she’s a visitor from another dimension and has no recollection of her memories. She has a tender-hearted personality, and is like an elder sister figure to the tomboyish Tsubasa. She lends her powers to Tsubasa by transforming into a spear in battle.

Kain (CV: Toshiki Masuda):
Master: Toma Akagi

Kain is Toma’s “Cavalier” Mirage partner. Like Chrom, he’s from another world and has lost his memories. Due to his similarities with Toma, they’re like brothers who work well together. He transforms into a spear while in combat.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will release in 2016 for Wii U.

Nintendo Treehouse demonstrates Atlus RPG for the first time.
SMTxFE-Treehouse-Gameplay.jpg

Nintendo showcased the first live demo of Genei Ibun Roku #FE, or Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, confirmed yesterday for launch in 2016, during the Nintendo Treehouse stream at E3 today.

The demo opens in Shibuya, at the famous Shibuya Crossing intersection. The game is set in modern day Tokyo, where the world starts experiencing incursions from another world known as the Idolsphere, and beings known as Mirages begin to invade. It’s a Japanese RPG, but Nintendo Treehouse staff also describe it as a J-Pop RPG, given how heavy a role music plays in the game. In fact, music plays a role in how the game world changes as you progress.

“The way that the city looks changes as you progress through the game depending on what the characters have done,” Atlus producer Shinjiro Takada explained. “For example, if the heroine of the story has made her debut [as an idol], then the poster for her debut single will be up in the city and her song will be playing in the convenience store, things like that.”
Back in the demo, we see the protagonist, a young man named Itsuki Aoi, inside a Shibuya convenience store. The shopkeeper is Anna, a recurring character in the Fire Emblem series. Nintendo Treehouse staff explain that it’s not actually Anna, but homage to the Fire Emblem series.

Fire Emblem characters do appear, however, but they’re a “completely separate experience,” Treehouse explains. We’ll get more into that below.

After leaving the convenience shop, Itsuki goes to meet up with his friend Tsubasa, who has been trying to get him to come see this singer named Kiria for a while. After meeting up with her, an animated concert begins.

“All the songs you hear in the game are being handled, written, and produced by famous Japanese songwriters who are in charge of producing famous and well-known Japanese artists,” Takada said. “So these aren’t the types of songs you see in anime. Also the dances were choreographed by famous dance choreographers. One of the things that we faced that was a bit of a challenge for us was the fact that all of the voice actors and actresses who appear in this game who voice characters who have to sing, those voice actors and actresses have to sing their own songs. We need them to be able to, not only be good actors and actresses, but sing as well.”

Mirages, which we mentioned earlier, are otherworldly beings drawn to people’s creative energy, which is called “Performa” in the game. People who have really strong Performa draw Mirages to them and the Mirages drain that Performa out of them.

After seeing Kiria’s performance, Tsubasa’s Performa is awakened from within her. She is driven to become a pop singer and is looking for Itsuki’s support. Here, you can choose how you respond. Then, Tsubasa’s Performa is awakened, triggering a scene where we see it happen physically, and it’s something only Itsuki, Tsubasa, and another character named Miko who appears can see.

But from here, an invasion on Shibuya begins, and we get a look at our first incursion.

“What we’re seeing here—this game deals with a balance of what’s common everyday, which is what the main characters are dealing with, and what is extraordinary, which is what you’re seeing right here. This game is based around this idea that everyday kids are dealing with incursions from the other world.”

From here, regular people start having their Performas drained and begin slumping, the color sucked out of them. Kiria the pop singer ends up transforming into some sort of warrior to battle a mysterious woman that appears. Tsubasa recognizes her, but the staff isn’t going into more about that.

With Shibuya under incursion and its inhabitants drained of their color, Itsuki enters a newly formed dungeon inside Shibuya’s “106” building. It’s an altered version of what the building would look like when not under incursion, but traces of its fashion basis remain. This dungeon is based on Japan’s 109 building in Shibuya, so the puzzles you’ll see in the dungeon are all based on fashion. Other dungeons are based on other real-world locations and have their own gimmicks.

Very different versions of Fire Emblem‘s Caeda and Chrom appear. They have no memory of who they are and are Mirages that come from the Idolsphere. The main characters are Mirage Masters that dream of becoming entertainers, and fight alongside the Mirages.

“As you guys know, what’s famous about Fire Emblem‘s combat system is the idea of the weapons pyramid and the relationship to weapons,” Takada explained. “And for the games that Atlus makes, generally there’s a focus on finding their weaknesses and taking advantage of them. So we thought during the development cycle that these systems go really well together… So for people who pick up this game and play it, I’d really like it for you guys to look forward to seeing what weaknesses you can find and how taking advantage of them will reward you.”

One of the new attack systems in the game is the “Session Attack.” These are attacks that multiple characters participate in.

Enemies appear on-screen in the dungeon—they’re not random encounters. You initiate battles by running into them. You can also gain an advantage at the start of battle by striking them first.

There’s a lot to take in, so check out the full 40-minute demonstration below. (It starts around 30 minutes in.)

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s Main Story Will Be Around 30 Hours. July 7, 2015 . 6:03am

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will feature characters from Fire Emblem: Awakening as well as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light.

This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine contains an interview with the developers of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, and some of the information from said feature has leaked out beforehand. (Thanks, Hachima Kiko)

Famitsu reports that Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will feature characters from Fire Emblem: Awakening as well as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. Characters from both games will appear as heroes as well as villains.

Character selection was apparently done through character popularity polls and such. You’ll see the likes of Cain and Abel in the game. Famitsu also say that characters that appeared as enemies in Fire Emblem will appear as enemies in Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. (We reported this during E3)

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s main story will take around 30 hours to complete according to the developers, although this doesn’t account for side stories and other extras.
That content will apparently amount to another 30 hours.

Currently, the game is in the process of being balanced and bug-tested. All content and features are already in place.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will be released for Wii U in 2016. While the game is technically a crossover of sorts between the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem franchises, it is being positioned as an RPG that newcomers to both series can enjoy.

Apparently, character appearance will be based on character popularity.... Unless I'm reading it wrong.... If not, D:<

That's a lot of gameplay, 30-60 hours depending on what you do? That's impressive.
