Superman Returns Tom Cruise....as SUPERMAN?

Stuff like Krypton not exploding, his suit is a living being, you know, massive changes. Like how Cyclops isn't a large part of the Phoenix saga in X-Men 3.
 ..... you just had to:o

I was just using an example you would be familiar with. Are you saying Cyclops being replaced isn't a massive change?

Most of that comes from the first draft of the script. I´ve read one of the further drafts and for the most part of the script it´s VERY faithful with the Superman mythos. And as I´ve said, a BIG deal of the scenes Abrams wrote have jumped into SR. If you don´t like that... it´s your problem.

It's a bit of a double standard around here isn't it? Wasn't there a review of a budget draft of SR that wasn't very good? I mean if people can accept that Singer had an earlier draft that wasn't up to par, why is it so hard for them to cut Abrams the same slack, right?;)

I've been a fan of Lost since day one, I appreciate Alias, don't watch it much, and I was totally impressed with MI:III. I don't have a hard time giving Abrams the benefit of the doubt at all.

Ratner wanted to make SR, that is why he envious of Singer.
Ratner and Singer are on good terms, to the extent that Singer wished Ratner luck with X3, gave him some guidance and told him to stay away from AICN.

You'd be right to give him the benefit of the doubt. I've managed to read the first draft of JJ's Superman script - that infamous first draft - and it was nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be. And truthfully the only things that bothered me AT ALL about the script were Superman's death and rebirth (because it made no narrative sense) and Lex being from Krypton (but not because of the continuity implications, just because it was shoved in so late in the day - it's within the last five pages of a 138 page script - that it had no resonance at all.

JJ's a hell of a writer who really understands emotion and epic storytelling. And it's worth noting that, with the single exception of Moriarty at AICN, everyone else who reviewed the script was really positive about it. JJ even ran his storyline by Jeanette Khan and some of the writers at DC comics to OK some of the changes he was making, and they supported everything.

Does anyone know how much Brett Ratner was going to change on the suit. The only thing I heard was that he was going to have a Black "S" face (More like Kingdom come) instead of the classic yellow, but what was he going keep Supes classic undies or was he going to take them away?

Tom Cruise would make a terrible Supes. Too short, too old and too crazy.

That's what I was thinking. That's why DC's movies aren't as good as Marvel, not that I'm being a jerk but, WB really doesn't care, and even though SR looks good, if Ratner did it, it would've been a faithful to the comics new :supes: movie, not this Singer stuff, Ratner's X-men is so much more like the comic, it feels like the X-men, singer's mutant movies wee just some dull movies where once again he threw out who and what they are, and just did his own thing.
Marvel's movies have been better than Dcs?

abrams smallville, lois lane, lex luthor, and superman scene are pure genious.

its krypton and lex's ending where everything just went wrong. take out lex as a alien, and wow what amovie it woulda been. his script is full of instant classic scenes. theres just soom looney stuff along the way.
