Tom Cruise in...The Magnificent Seven

He's playing one in a film he's just attached himself too. Gonna be awesome.

I like the Joseph Gordon Levitt pick especially. I can't remember the character's name in the Magnificent Seven but JGL would be great as the young cocky kid from that film.

Chico. That would be an inspired casting choice, actually.

People who hate Nic Cage should be hated. Even when he's terrible, he's awesome.

I think that's because Nic Cage always act with a relish, like he knew how awful it is but he doesn't care or give a damn. Just check out his movie Drive Angry and see how he screwed the scenes up like a fat man at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

haha exactly. I'd rather watch a terrible, insane Cage performance that most actors serious performances.

He's scrapin' at the door.

I rewatched Kurosawa's Seven Samurai yesterday. So eff this.

I'm liking this idea. The original is a classic and thus a remake might put Westerns back on the map a little bit more in Hollywood. And if you don't like Cruise in (probably) the Yul Brenner role, then watch Guns of the Magnificent Seven with George Kennedy. If you can make it through a half hour of that movie without gouging your eyes out at the awfulness, you'll probably warm up to Cruise a lot more.

True, true. But if it isn't, then it might just feel like The Expendables with (presumably) better acting.

Yeah, it could be okay, but it also would probably feel kinda played out. Westerns are few and far between these days, so a big budget western with Cruise and what will hopefully be an all-star cast could be awesome.

I could see a modern version of the story become political and topical if they still set it in Mexico, but in 2012, with the bandit leader becoming a cartel boss. Not sure if even that, though, wouldn't have a been there, done that feel.

Hey if the action is good and characters badass I be sold.

I'd be interested in seeing a female gunslinger as part of the 7. In all incarnations of the M7, they've never had a woman member.
