Tom Hiddleston is Loki

I know nothing about this young man, about as much as I know about Thor actually. I think it's neat that they are casting unknowns in the leads role. Good for these guys.:)

He looks like a conniving, smarmy, little prick.

Which is PEFECT!

Anyone know if he's a good actor?

from wikipedia:
Thomas William Hiddleston (born in Westminster, London, in 1981) is an award-winning British actor.

He studied at Eton College, where he boarded in Durnford House, and then read Classics at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He then attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, from which he graduated in 2005.

Since his RADA graduation, he signed with notable actors agency Hamilton Hodell, and has played major parts in Declan Donnellan's company Cheek by Jowl's productions The Changeling (in which he played Alsemero and for which he received an Ian Charleson Award 2006 Commendation), and Cymbeline (Posthumus Leonatus & Cloten), for which he won the Laurence Olivier Award.

His screen credits include Randolph Churchill, son of Winston Churchill the wartime Prime Minister, in the film The Gathering Storm. He also appeared in a leading role in Joanna Hogg's film Unrelated (2007).

His Donmar Warehouse credits include Cassio in Michael Grandage's production of Shakespeare's Othello alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ewan McGregor to much critical acclaim and Lvov in their West End revival of Chekhov's Ivanov.

His TV credits include Detective Martinsson in the BBC drama Wallander and Bill Hazledine in Suburban Shootout.

Agreed. That means reasonable salaries for the actors, and extra cash for special effects, which is what a film like this needs.

He definitely has the look. Looks very...snake like as Saint previously mentioned.

And if he is an award winning British thespian with a background in theatre, no one should be worrying about his acting chops.

I am liking Hiddleston as Loki, he has that "look". Really looking forward to this.

Praise the maker, no Josh Hartnett!!!

This.

Hiddleston's casting makes me nervous because two unknowns in the lead roles is a bit much, but he can make up for it with spectacular acting. The villain's usually the best part of any superhero movie so this guy is going to have to be good.

I like unknowns. Unknown means pure, untouched-by-hollywood material. This is safe.

Hmmm, a comic book property unfamiliar to the general audience with actors little known to the general audience. And the money being saved on cheap actors is going to the special effects. Why does this sound familiar?

I'm just saying ...

Somehow I doubt there will be an awkwardly long sex scene in this one

I thought that Watchmen was great. Sure it flopped at the boxoffice but I still dug it.

I like unknowns too, just because of the surprise factor and it's easier to think of them as characters instead of just actors, but...

Exactly. Some big names are needed to pull in money at the BO. Thor feels like it's going to be a hard sell as it it is.

Regarding "Watchmen," I admired it more than I enjoyed it. But I'm saying Thor has an uphill battle ahead.

Agreed. Plus Hiddleston has some high quality acting training behind him. Hopefully he'll be one of those awesome British villians who just gobbles up the scenery :woot:.

There is indeed a dry quality to WM, as to Alan Moore in general. It´s not for everyone, but I enjoy it.

Flop is a bit harsh... it made some 60 million more than it's budget. Not a huge success, probably a bit disppointing, but not a flop.

Thor is a much more accessible and likable character and world than that of the Watchmen.

As a fanboy, I must say...who the hell is this?

I totally see all kinds of villainous coming from him :hehe:

i'm so glad this movie is starting to go somewhere, i was getting worried there for awhile

What's left to cast..? The girl, right ? The.. love interest ?
