Tom Hiddleston is Loki

the fight being short is what got me worried about this movie .. while some said it was good but short and others said that it was fine . and come to think of it . Its more of loki's final act and decent into the villian he becomes later on however I hope its still one badass fight.

Don't worry, I've seen several people state that the Loki fight is actually a decent length, it's just a matter of opinion.

Not understanding all the praise hes been getting on here, i found him to be a pretty weak character not to mention one of the weaker comic book villain adaptions.

It wasn;t clear if he was a sympathetic villain or a evil neferious villain? Also i just never felt he was that big of a threat.

That's Loki, god of mischief: with him, you never know. That's why he's one of the best marvel villains.
And Hiddleston's interpretation was outstanding.

I disagree with you on so many levels, LOL!

Idk maybe when i go see it again ill appreciate it more, but i just really wasn't feeling the character what so ever.

Yeah I can see if you really don't know How mischievous Loki really is how you might not get that from the film.
I mean sure it mentions in a few places how he can really be, I think a few added scenes might help, but, there are enough scenes there that do tell you not to TRUST Loki. I mean...
He lured Laufey to Asgard and Killed the guy! lol

Seeing the movie again tonight for a second viewing. I'll put up my review after it. However, in my opinion, Hiddleston was spectacular as Loki. He was a sleek, slimy person, and got under my skin. In my opinion, his portrayal of the villain is one of...if not the best villain in a Marvel movie. I know, I know, I'm jumping ahead, I'll be more sure about it after the second viewing, but I thought his performance was great.

Personlaly, I thought Tom Hiddelston did a fantastic job as Loki. I loved the evolution of the character in the film.

That is exactly what makes him a brilliant villain. And it is 100% in line with Loki from the comics.

For me, Loki is the best comic book villain put to screen.

The conflict between the love/hate of Thor and his father was brilliant. Such a nuanced performance from Hiddleston. You can really sense the mixed feelings within him just from his subtle facial expressions and the tone of his voice. You can tell this guy is a proper thespian.

The scene where he is arguing with Odin in the Vault is just... amazing. Truly amazing. When he screams "TELL ME!!!!!" you can really sense both the anger and pain in his voice. So powerful, so heartbreaking.

Other great moments for me are when Thor is arguing with Odin about what to do with the Frost Giants, and without saying a single word, you can tell what Loki is feeling. Just with Hiddleston's facial expression.

Also when he is talking to Frigga over the sleeping Odin. When she is talking about Odin not waking again you can see the sorrow in his eyes. Then she mentions Thor... and the change in his face and eyes is just brilliant.

The final confrontation with Thor is a masterclass in acting too. You can just sense the bitterness, the resentment, but at the same time he really does love his brother.

But saying all that, it's also hard to pin point when he is actually being genuine and when he is lying. Like I said, such a nuanced, three dimensional performance and written character.

Just a mesmerizing performance. It wouldn't look out of place in some Oscar bait period drama or a prestigious play in London's West End. I'd put it above Heath Ledger's Joker.

I 100% agree with this post. It is def in the conversation for me in best villain performance for a comic book film. Loki was just...brilliant. Hiddleston nailed this role in so many ways, and that scene you mention with Thor before the battle is just so well acted (by both) and heartbreaking. You see into Loki's soul.

I never understood why he would and never saw true bitterness Loki showed to Thor. I know Thor is supposed to be the superior brother and the loved one but it never really showed examples of this, it was always just implied. I don't remember Loki ever really behning Thors back being angry with him

To me it was just they were fine than all of a sudden there fighting each other. Wasn't much of a build up imo

That's why I thought it was great. It was subtle. You don't need him talking about his feelings and spoon feeding it.

I prefer it being implied rather than spelled out. It allows the actors to act, instead of just speak a load of dialogue from a script.

If you watch it again, pay attention to the scene where he is talking to his mother over Odin's body. Notice as soon as she mentions there is a chance that Thor can return. Watch his eyes and facial expression. His face says more than a thousands words.

Loki is a manipulator. He works on being subtle.

But, you can clearly see examples of his bitterness to Thor before they're fighting. You just have to read them.

Hiddleston's performance as Loki really helped bring the movie to a newer level and made me sympathize a bit with the character.

And yeah, he's always been manipulative and a liar. He's the opposite of Thor.

Holy ****, yeah. At that part, my heart pretty much sank. Wasn't expecting the heavy moment in that scene but I was blown away by his acting there.

And as far as manipulation goes, it was great seeing him subtly convince Thor to go to Jotunheim. I feel like some viewers could see it as genuine, others can spot the trickery, and any would question it.

I could not be happier we'll see him again in Avengers.

And finally, now that the movie is out, I think the title is relevant now more than ever.

omg guys this sounds awesome ... just like I pictured him to be sad , full of rage and bitterness . Not to mention being a badass in a battle , finally seeing it tommrow night . cant wait :yay:

He was definitely the best player in the film. The Ledger comparisons I heard were completely overblown (as well as Hiddleston performed him, the character simply wasn't as rich as the Joker), but I look forward to seeing him again.

INEED Lady Loki. You WILL be amazed. :woot:

Loki stole the show.

wow, the movie was good, but Loki and the drama he brought with the characters was fantastic.

I'd put him on the same level. Hiddeslton did some very good acting. i was lost in his performance the whole time that i forgot I was watching a movie.

Loki's three great moments for me were the times
he lied to Thor in that SHIELD room, threatened Jane, and when he killed the Frost Giant who was going to kill Odin.
Up to that time he had been a pretty ordinary villain for me, but I was genuinely surprised by that final action I mentioned.

I agree about him not seeming like much of a threat. Outside of his [BLACKOUT]plan to kill off all the Frost Giants, who seemed like jerks anyway,[/BLACKOUT] he didn't come off as all that evil, and he was obviously no real match for Thor.

I think people are underestimating his power.
We all thought Thor was going to defeat him in some way. Loki escaped to his advantage. So he'll be an even bigger threat in the Avengers.

Hiddelston was absolutely brilliant. His entire plot was brilliant. Perfect Loki. With his performance it all felt right. It couldn't have worked if they didn't execute it right. But it was more of a personal thing.

He's up there with Molina's Ock and ledger's Joker. But in a different way. it's hard to play that character. How do you play a God who lies so well? Well, there it is for you.

He stole the movie for me....which was hard...considering Hemsworth was flawless as Thor.

Hiddleston was just pitch perfect...his manurisms, poster, speech, everything- screamed Loki. When he was shown sitting in the thrown, almost lounging as the Destroyer did its thing--the helmet casting a shadow over his face....wow- he had the body language down cold.

Great performance, nuanced in every way. I felt for him- but loathed him at once....terrific.

Yeah, I think Loki was the best performance in the film.
