By the way, Russell Crowe is at it again:

Alright, look, slight set back tonight...not that Valjean got away or anything... just misplaced (cough),waiting for dawn, hunt resumes #lesmis

Misplaced, my ***. :funny:

Here's what was shown at CinemaCon - people are getting excited over this, wait until the whole movie!

Les Miserables
Because the new Tom Hooper film is still in production, Universal didn’t have much to show from the new Victor Hugo adaptation, but what I did see was pretty fantastic. Most of the footage consisted of single shots of characters in costume and out of context, but what really stuck with me was the music. Playing over the entire trailer was a rendition of “I Dreamed A Dream” sung by Anne Hathaway, and it was spectacular. As previously reported, most of the singing in the film is being done on screen rather than in a studio, and it added a certain raw quality to the sound that fit in perfectly with the tone and look of the movie.

Have to say, Crowe sounds like he's having a blast.

Hey, look, some bad news...Fantine died yesterday. After a good nights sleep, she is going to die again today...#lesmis...

Hey, whoa, spoilers there buddy. :)

Didn't think anything Les Mis related was a spoiler and it was there in his tweet, but I fixed it. You may want to take out my quote!

'twas joking, hence the :) face. But it's cool, whatever.

Three bloggers from collider.com, /film.com, and firstshowing.net report on what they saw from Universal's coverage. There's also a video and Les Mis starts at 9:55. The middle guy sounded stunned by what he saw.

Les Miserables

Like Fox’s Life of Pi, the brief footage of Les Miserables wowed the CinemaCon crowd. While we were told what we were being shown was rough, unfinished, and raw, they could release what they showed us and people would start buying tickets.

What I didn’t know before the presentation started was that the cast was singing live on-set and we heard Anne Hathaway singing “I Dreamed a Dream” over the visuals were from the first two weeks of filming. In the approximately 40 seconds of footage we were shown, we saw
Fantine (Hathaway) getting her hair cut extremely short, Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) walking the dirty streets, and some extremely impressive visuals that show director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) is not a one-trick-pony.
If you were wondering if Anne Hathway could sing, or if Universal was going to **** up Les Miserables, the footage we saw today makes the film another early contender for end of the year awards. I’d be willing to put a lot of money down today that it gets a Best Picture nomination.

There was quite a lot of interest in the teaser posters for Tom Hooper's musical Les Miserables (December 14) that were seen around CinemaCon, but considering how recently they began filming, it was surprising that they had anything to show. We got to see Anne Hathaway's Fantine with her hair shorn singing "I Dreamed a Dream" as it showed the various characters played by Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried and Helena Bonham Carter. We also spotted Eddie Redmayne in there even though his name wasn't mentioned among the others. Even though they warned that the vocals were raw, recorded from the set, it was quite a powerful presentation, giving us some idea of the scope of the film, keeping in line with the musical, and boy, if Anne Hathaway isn't getting another Oscar nomination for her performance, we will be absolutely shocked.

This should be amazing. Back to the "barricade boys" next week - one of them tweeted he's back on the set Tuesday.

Russell Crowe @russellcrowe
Confrontation in the can, love that song, throat well used but in very good form, any press you read to the contrary is just *beep* #lesmis

Russell Crowe ‏ @russellcrowe
2 full days off, no singing, just blessed silence... Monday...it's all about multitudes and sentinels #lesmis

Stars is one of favorite numbers!

I really hope Russell vocally nails the part. Phillip Quast is Javert in a lot of Les Mis fan's minds (mine included). Russell has big shoes to fill. I'm sure he'll act the hell out of the role, I'm just still concerned about his vocal power.

He's the only cast member I worry about.

This clip has lessened my concerns about Russell a bit. Found a clip of him singing something that's not a rock or country song, and he actually sounds pretty good. Not that he sounded awful in other clips, but it's closer to what we should expect to hear in Les Mis.

Oh wow, what a complete 180!

Yeah that clip isn't remotely what he needs to be able to do for Javert. But I have a hard time believing the creators of the film and show would have cast himn if he couldn't do something appropriate with Javert.

It's still a better estimation as to what he might sound like in the film than other clips of him singing.

I disagree.. especially in comparison to the way he sings in his band.

A UK radio show, Podcast available on Tuesday:

http://www.radiojiblets.com/#!__jiblets-main/sunday-arts

Two guests related to Les Mis - one was an extra on the set on Thursday, and Rebecca Caine, who was the original West End Cosette and was the one at Greenwich that tweeted some singing.

The extra said that Anne Hathaway is done filming. He said she finished last Thursday, although Crowe said she was doing another take of a scene on Friday. He said he watched a five-minute scene with four singers in the scene. He said Hugh, Anne, and Russell, were there, and didn't mention the fourth person. He said it took two days and 50 takes to film that one scene. He also said they were singing live and "full-out" the whole time and it was amazing.

He also used the phrases "including ****es" and "Lovely Ladies" but I didn't catch the whole thing - maybe it was the scene with the snow that was mentioned.

Then Rebecca Caine was on the phone, she said the barricade at Greenwich looked amazing.

She mentioned that the students were singing "One Day More" (this is not the first time I've read this and I thought it was a mistake, but maybe not!) so maybe this was done besides DYHTPS.

One of them said there was about a 1000 lbs. of dead fish on the Lovely Ladies set and Rebecca said filming was very hard for the girls and it was filmed in terrible conditions and they were worried they were going to get sick.

And poor Russell:

Russell Crowe ‏ @russellcrowe
just popped a blood blister on my finger, picked it up during stunt fight on Friday, man that blood was dark, like a 1970's Grange...cheers

no need to worry about my man maximus. he will bring the thunder.

I recommend people listen to this radio Podcast. An extra was on the set and gave some "gossip" about what he saw filmed, etc. (he was on the "Lovely Ladies" set last week and said Anne Hathaway is done filming - he also said Anne and Hugh's voices are amazing) and then after the commerical, "original Cosette" Rebecca Caine was on by phone (she was also the one that tweeted a video from the window in Greenwich) and gave her experiences about watching the filming, speaking to the "****es" who are her friends, etc.

It starts after about an hour after the Grace Kelly bit.

Another hint that someone wasn't as nice on set. Still haven't the slightest idea who.
