Poor Gavroche. :csad:

His death is going to be super hard to watch. The kid they've cast as him is just so adorable.

He was - and stupid, until the end. He wasn't much better when Eponine died, either. After she told him there was a letter from Cosette in her pocket, he was actually anxious for her to hurry up and die already so that he could read it.

In fairness, Eponine had been hiding the letter from him - she wanted him to think that Cosette had already left the country (the letter was letting him know they'd just moved to another part of the city) so that he'd run off to the barricade. Eponine had planned to follow him there, thinking they'd both be killed and then they would be together without Cosette.

But still...she was dying, he could have kept his hormones in check for another few minutes.

Afterwards, Marius sent Gavroche with the letter that Valjean ultimately intercepts, hoping that would keep Gavroche away from the barricade and safe. Which obviously didn't work.

Marius sounds like a real *****ebag in the novel. Is there any particular reason why both Cosette and Eponine fell in love with him? Maybe he is described looking like the love child of Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt with the singing voice of Frank Sinatra. :o

Poor Gavroche. :csad:

And Gavroche was Eponine's brother. When she was dying, they could hear him singing nearby and she told Marius not to tell him know what happened because he would be angry with her.

He was living in the elephant (I had completely forgotten about the elephant!) and he was watching two little boys that were actually his brothers, althought none of them knew it. The Thernardiers had sold the boys out to someone, but the older boy lost the address (if I remember it right, the paper with the address blew out of his hand and he couldn't find it again) and they didn't know where they were supposed to go, so they were lost in the streets.

Gavroche had gotten them food (again, it's been years since I read the book, so I may not be getting this entirely right), and the little one was crying, so when Gavroche gave him some bread, he told him, "Here, poke that in your gun."

Later, at the very moment Gavroche died, the book caught up with the two little boys again, who were still living in the streets. The older boy had taken some bread out of a fountain (where it had been left for the ducks), gave it to his little brother, and said "Here, poke that in your gun."

It was like Gavroche's spirit had moved into this other boy, and he wasn't entirely gone.

There was the whole backstory with Marius - he was raised by his grandfather (his mother was dead) and had been brought up to believe that his father was a deadbeat who didn't care about him, when it turned out that was completely untrue. His father had given him up because his grandfather threatened to disinherit him. They'd had this whole political fallout and the grandfather didn't want the father anywhere near him. His father actually loved him very much, and was at the same church every Sunday when Marius was little just so he could see him.

Marius learned all of this after his father died, and he was so angry with his grandfather that he totally rebelled against him, which is a good part of the reason he got involved with Enjolras and that whole student uprising. He'd even left a note in his pocket with his grandfather's address so they'd know where to take his body when he was killed at the barricade, just to stick it to his grandfather. That's how Valjean knew where to take him when he rescued him.

Of course, his grandfather completely flipped out at the sight of him and immediately forgot their entire fight. He was a stubborn old bastard, but he loved his grandson.

But the worst part was that when he learned the truth about Valjean, he sent him away and kept Cosette away from him the same way his grandfather had done with him all of those years before.

He really was such a jerk in the book.

This is OT, but since this is the unofficial Broadway thread (in everything but name) I just got a personal e-mail from Shona White! The Brits here might know her, she was in Chess, Wicked and pretty much everything else in the UK. Very cool!!

They are filming "Do You Hear the People Sing" today. Check out the photos!

I love that line. :woot:

Hope we get video!!!

In this age of phone cameras I'll be disappointed if we don't get any. The Avengers had tons of fan-made videos when it was filmed in Cleveland.

What did we do without Twitter LOL?

West End-Wendy @Westend_Wendy
Watched two takes of Les Mis. Crowd singing "Do You Hear The People Sing" and it seemed like the revolution taking over a funeral procession

@TaylaMcC heard them do a take earlier and everyone sounded amazing!

Two of the songs that I really want to hear from this movie are "Do You Hear The People Sing" and "One Day More". Les Mis has a chock full of these powerful scenes where a large number of people are signing, and I think they will look magnificent on the big screen.

One Day More is my favorite part of the show, I can't wait to see how they do it in the film.

Someone reported they heard Tveit singing DYHTPS and said it was amazing.

Another person thought they may do "One Day More" like they did "Tonight" in "West Side Story" - cutting to each person as they sing their line in their location.

That makes sense to me. It's what I always pictured in my mind how they'd do it.

However they do it, it's going to be amazing I think.

No doubt.

And I don't really expect videos of actual filming. Apparently the security team is being pretty strict about the No Film policy. Pictures and video are allowed between takes but not during them.

Samantha has been spotted on set. Her distinctive dimples kind of gave her away :funny:

The pic is in a spoiler tag because it's pretty big

OMG. I'm so so excited. She looks amazing!
