Top 20 Worst Casting Decisions Ever

I read an interview with Terrance Stamp a few years ago. He said while filming Crapisode 1, Lucas only had one direction for all actors...hit your mark and say your line. There was absolutely no direction other than that. Stamp made a point of saying without totally slamming him that Lucas was only concerned with the visuals. What a shocker.

I've heard this from other actors involved in the prequels...if anything, George would say the line needed to be delivered with "more emotion," which of course leaves the actor to wonder which emotion he wants. Lucas himself has said he's "not a writer or a director, but a storyteller." Which is true...he just skips all the steps that make it an engaging story.

Half of these I haven't seen. I would say Keanu Reeves was hopelessly miscast in The Watcher, but I didn't think he was that bad in The Gift.

John Wayne as Genghis Khan and Katharine Hepburn as a Chinese peasant, I think we can all agree on. :whatever:

Orlando Bloom isn't the most authoritative commander type figure, I'll agree, but he wasn't as miscast in Kingdom of Heaven as Brad Pitt was in Troy.

Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher all joked that Lucas' only direction for retakes was "faster and more intense!", lol.

Is it true that Liam Neeson was originally excited to be in Star Wars but ended up saying "I felt like a damn puppet"?

And yea, I would agree with whoever mentioned Daredevil....Ben Affleck as a superhero, lol, I think not.

On the other hand, I think The Lord of the Rings is one of the most uniformly perfectly cast films I've ever seen.

Agreed. The cast is fantastic, it's water-tight. I wouldn't change any of them (Which is why I'm not looking forward to The Hobbit).

del Toro is directing. Peter Jackson is producing and I'm sure he'll have his hands in it quite a bit. Have some faith.

Wow no mention of Michael Keaton as Batman, Eric Johnson as Flash Gordon or Casper Van Dien as Tarzan?

before looking at the list, the first one to pop into my mind was Jessica Alba as Sue Storm. she's the worst big-name actress of our time. she's hot as hell, but damn she's far from ever winning an Oscar, let alone get nominated.

now, i also agree that Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane was a bad choice too. look, i love Kate Bosworth. she's hot as hell, but she ain't right for Lois Lane. i even question the choice of Brandon Routh picked to be Superman/Clark Kent, to be honest.

another bad decision is Shia LeBouf in Transformers AND in Indiana Jones! he's just too damn immature, dorky, and annoying. he's better fit for comedies, not action flicks.

and, as a big Spider-Man fan, i'm not too fond of Tobey Maguire being picked to play Peter Parker. one thing that really bugged me is that he doesn't have brown eyes, like in all the comics and cartoons. and he just didn't seem badass and cocky enough. he was just too dorky than the comics or cartoons ever portrayed him.

oh, i just thought of another one... Hayden Christiansen as Anakin Skywalker. and even Natalie Portman as Padme. terrible performances.

Peter Parker is not supposed to be badass or cocky. Spider-Man on the other hand is, which he was in the films. He was cracking one liners while fighting, just as much as he does in the comics Raimi grew up reading, the lassic Spider-Man from the 80's and early 90's, perfect match. Tobey played Parker perfectly and was a rather perfect physical fit into that role as well.

Where's Clooney as Batman and Schwarzengger as Mr Freeze?

Arnold woulda killed it as Freeze had he had some serious direction put to it, without the corny ass dialogue. He is perfect for the animated series version of Freeze.

20. Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble
Kill it with fire D: But yeah, even if she got the role down, it still weren't Betty.

18. Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, Invisible Woman
It just doesn't work for me. I don't hate the F4 films, but Alba isn't, and will never be Sue Storm.

17. Jude Law as 'A Cockney Cad'
I kinda liked Jude Law in Alfie...

9. Keira Knightley as Domino
Seriously, they pick Dog over Keira? Keira pwns the bounty hunter look. If Dog ever came up running to me, he'd have to cut his hair and take off those ridiculous sunglasses before scaring me.

4. Kevin Costner as Robin Hood
Nothing wrong this choice, or the film. I'd definitely watch it if it was on :o

1. Keanu Reeves in all his roles
Don't be hatin' on the Reeves :cmad:

i fully disagree with alot in this list

if the person had seen kingdom of heaven directors cut he would not have chosen him.

everything Mark Wahlberg is in.

also, Ashton Kutcher. except in Butterfly Effect.

I always thought micheal j fox should play spider-man. he looks just like him. hes too old now.

You completely miss the point of this thread. It is not "actors you don't like" but it is about bad casting decisions. That means actors who do not fit the role they were cast as.

He's not unaware. He's completely aware of it. Both his natural born parents are black and he was raised by them. He happens to be completely white skinned, but he is actually a black man. He hides it as an adult though.

I haven't seen the movie or read the book, but when you say he's "black", how "black" is he, really? Does he have a skin condition that makes him look white, or is he (and his parents) of mixed blood? If it's the latter, in my estimation they can call themselves white just as legitimately as they can call themselves black, depending on the ratio.

i agree with a bunch although

I hate people who make it seem so weird that Ted Danson was in Saving Private Ryan

Domino was a crazy choice as a bounty hunter so Keira wasnt too crazy as a cast

Wow no mention of Michael Keaton as Batman, Eric Johnson as Flash Gordon or Casper Van Dien as Tarzan?

No, I love Batman Begins and Batman, so I'll freaking defend Keaton. Physically, he's off, but he did a darn good job. I don't get this weird backlash.

Anway, DID anyone mentin Sofia Coppola yet (Godfather 3)

The list would have atleast had a small, glimmer of credibility if it had listed, "Tara Reid in ________" rather than Keanu.

But being as it is, bleh.

Where's Clooney as Batman and Schwarzengger as Mr Freeze?

exactly.

Not a great list. But I have to agree with their slam on Keanu Reeves. He has always been a horrible actor and shows no signs of improving. As the list points out, he is only believable at playing a total doofus(Bill & Ted) or a guy in a perpetual state of confusion(The Matrix).

I don't think he is a horrible actor, but he isn't good either, hehe. He can be a 'decent' actor sometimes. But he was good casting in Bill & Ted and The Matrix. I like him, but for other reasons, not for his 'acting abilities' LOL.

alba should've been number one!

WORD! Along with Hayden Christiansen. He just didn't have the presence to play Darth Vader, at all.

And I liked Kate as Lois. She wasn't great, but she was solid, IMO. :o

why the hell do people rip on keanu so bad? he's had a few stinkers, sure, but who hasn't?

another bad decision is Shia LeBouf in Transformers AND in Indiana Jones! he's just too damn immature, dorky, and annoying. he's better fit for comedies, not action flicks.

Seriously, I don't understand the all this hate for Shia. Indy 4 was pretty funny. Transformers was pretty funny. Dare I say that Shia pulled off what you say he's "best suited for" in these movies perfectly? And I think he was serious enough, and pulled off the action, considering roles, just fine.

He's not just all comedy. He does have a larger, more serious, acting range, if you'd just look at some of the other movies he's been in. That's right, Even Stevens, Indy 4 and Transformers aren't the only things he's acted in...
