Sequels Topher Grace Won't Do "Venom" Movie

Even Topher knows a Venom spin off would suck. There's nowhere to go with the character.

Did you even look at the date of that article?

And you call yourself an obsessed fan!? :cmad:

Pat on the back for Grace for smelling a crap movie a mile off.

I was hoping He would return. He was excellent as Venom in Spidey3. I'm dissapointed that He won't.

Cmon people you knew Arad was just high on something when he was talking about a Venom spinoff... I am suprised that thread still isn't locked a while ago...

Yeah, it's only 2 months old. Dated a week before SM-3's release.

Yeah, and a few months ago Tobey Maguire said he was done with Spider-Man. A few months ago Sam Raimi wanted to take a break from the series and possibly work on The Hobbit. A few months ago there wasn't even a Venom movie in the works.

I wouldn't be surprised if Grace doesn't return for the role, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he did. A lot can change in just a few months time.

Yeah, and a few months ago Tobey Maguire said he was done with Spider-Man.

Never heard any such thing. Tobey was always on the stance that if Sam and Co returned, he would, too.

You got a link to where Tobey said this?

A few months ago Sam Raimi wanted to take a break from the series and possibly work on The Hobbit.

And where has he stated that he's changed his mind? Last I read, he said if he comes back for a Spider-Man 4, he wants Vulture and Electro. And that was on the basis of IF he does it.

A few months ago there wasn't even a Venom movie in the works.

And you think that just because they hadn't publically announced it, that meant they were not going to do it? Movie projects can be kept under wraps for months before being announced.

I wouldn't be surprised if Grace doesn't return for the role, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he did. A lot can change in just a few months time.

I agree. But, I think Grace is smart enough to know that this character is not capable of doing a solo movie. Venom works as an antagonist to Spider-Man. That's what he was created for.

Anything after that is rubbish, IMO. And I think Topher knows it, too.

You're right, he doesn't explicitly say "I will never do Spider-Man again!" but his attitude towards the idea of being in SM4 has certainly changed over the past few months.

Couple that with the fact that he seems pretty committed to the idea of working, in some degree, on Spider-Man 4 indicates to me that he's changed his mind.

But this is Avi Arad we're talking about. He's announced Marvel films that are years away. What obviously happened was that, after SM3 came out, Arad noted how fans loved Venom but also hated how little screentime he got. Those dollar signs flashed in his eyes, and so a spin-off was born.

I don't really disagree with that. I never cared for the anti-heroic Venom in the comics and also think that he works best as a villain. That being said, I honestly don't care how the movie turns out because...

A) I'll never have to hear people say "We want more Venom!" again.
B) I'll never have to hear people say "We want Carnage!" again.
C) I'll never have to worry about Venom returning, or Carnage appearing, in SM4.

Not really. He probably heard that Sam is not wanting to do it, and that's put him off the idea. As I said, Tobey, Kirsten and the rest have always said that they'd keep going if Sam is the director.

That doesn't really state that he's changed his mind about anything. He says he's exhausted and wants a break from the Spider-Man franchise.

It only says that he's not completely ruled out doing it, which is something I'd expect him to say after doing three movies and being a fan of the character. It also states that Tobey and Kirsten will only do it if Sam does it. Further backing up what I said about Tobey.

But this is Avi Arad we're talking about. He's announced Marvel films that are years away.

Avi Arad is known to be full of it. This is not the first time he's mentioned a Venom movie. He did it before years ago, and we're still waiting.

Until you hear about casting, a director, and scriptwriters being hired, take what Arad says with a huge pinch of salt.

Those dollar signs flashed in his eyes, and so a spin-off was born.

Nonsense. There was never any doubt that Spider-Man 3 would make huge money. The Spider-Man movies have always been the most profitable comic book movies in the industry.

LOL! Regarding A and B, just ignore them. As for C, if Raimi is involved in SM-4, you can bet it will be a symbiote free zone.

A few months ago, SM3 was not yet the higgest grossing Superhero movie of all time, either. :word:

They flash a big check at Topher, he'll do it. :yay:

You ever think that maybe every actor is not that shallow to do a crappy movie for a fancy price? He's already said no to doing the movie. And good on him, I say.

Those dollar signs probably disappeared when Topher said "no" to the role.

I think it's pretty clear that he was set on being done with it, citing the need to be with his family, content with the three movies as a self-contained trilogy, etc. Since then he's said that he would return if Raimi did and if the story was good.

Like I said, it's not a clearcut "I'm never doing Spider-Man again!" to "Sign me up for Spider-Man 4!" change. But he has definitely backpeddled in his stance on reprising the role.

Yet we know from a recent update that not only is Raimi looking for a new writer, but he wants to work on SM4 in some capacity. So unless his idea of a break is one month, I'd say Raimi has reconsidered leaving the series.

You mean the Goyer film? To be fair, I think a Venom spin-off is much more plausible now than it was back then, now that the Spider-Man franchise and Venom himself have all been established.

That's not what I was referring to. I meant that Arad saw fans complaining about Venom's minimal screentime and instantly thought "Spin-off!" as a way of capitalizing on Spidey fans.

You means months before the movie was even announced? Unless Topher can travel through time, his "no" doesn't really mean anything.

topher needs to realize the venom is a thousand times more popular than anti-heros like elektra and supergirl

I never got that vibe off him. He was always of the stance that if Sam comes back, then he will, too. He says it every time he's asked about sequals. Kirsten Dunst, too.

Yet we know from a recent update that not only is Raimi looking for a new writer, but he wants to work on SM4 in some capacity. So unless his idea of a break is one month, I'd say Raimi has reconsidered leaving the series.

What recent update? And, why are you comparing Raimi to Topher, anyway? Topher just had a minor role in SM-3. Raimi's poured his heart and soul into this franchise. Of course he's not going to want to let go.

Topher has said a firm no to this Venom movie only 8 weeks ago.

You mean the Goyer film?

Yes, whichever one he had been talking about back then.

To be fair, I think a Venom spin-off is much more plausible now than it was back then, now that the Spider-Man franchise and Venom himself have all been established.

Nobody is denying a Venom movie might happen. Just that it will suck and Topher has said no to doing one.

That's not what I was referring to. I meant that Arad saw fans complaining about Venom's minimal screentime and instantly thought "Spin-off!" as a way of capitalizing on Spidey fans.

Oh, I'm sure that's true. I thought you meant that he saw the box office takings and thought of making it.

Unless Topher can travel through time, his "no" doesn't really mean anything.

Why? What has changed between now and 8 weeks ago? Unless you've spoken to Topher personally, his stance on a Venom movie is still no.

guys we thought the robber killed uncle ben than two movies later we found out its was flint. so pretty much anything is possibe in theses spidey films, even venom might still be out there

Actually, "no" means Topher's stance on the movie is...no.
