Did you even look at the date of that article?
Yeah, it's only 2 months old. Dated a week before SM-3's release.
Yeah, and a few months ago Tobey Maguire said he was done with Spider-Man.
A few months ago Sam Raimi wanted to take a break from the series and possibly work on The Hobbit.
A few months ago there wasn't even a Venom movie in the works.
I wouldn't be surprised if Grace doesn't return for the role, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he did. A lot can change in just a few months time.
Never heard any such thing. Tobey was always on the stance that if Sam and Co returned, he would, too.
You got a link to where Tobey said this?
Doc Ock said:And where has he stated that he's changed his mind?
Doc Ock said:And you think that just because they hadn't publically announced it, that meant they were not going to do it? Movie projects can be kept under wraps for months before being announced.
Doc Ock said:I agree. But, I think Grace is smart enough to know that this character is not capable of doing a solo movie. Venom works as an antagonist to Spider-Man. That's what he was created for.
Anything after that is rubbish, IMO. And I think Topher knows it, too.

You're right, he doesn't explicitly say "I will never do Spider-Man again!" but his attitude towards the idea of being in SM4 has certainly changed over the past few months.

Couple that with the fact that he seems pretty committed to the idea of working, in some degree, on Spider-Man 4 indicates to me that he's changed his mind.
But this is Avi Arad we're talking about. He's announced Marvel films that are years away.
Those dollar signs flashed in his eyes, and so a spin-off was born.
I don't really disagree with that. I never cared for the anti-heroic Venom in the comics and also think that he works best as a villain. That being said, I honestly don't care how the movie turns out because...
A) I'll never have to hear people say "We want more Venom!" again.
B) I'll never have to hear people say "We want Carnage!" again.
C) I'll never have to worry about Venom returning, or Carnage appearing, in SM4.
I was hoping He would return. He was excellent as Venom in Spidey3. I'm dissapointed that He won't.

They flash a big check at Topher, he'll do it.![]()

What obviously happened was that, after SM3 came out, Arad noted how fans loved Venom but also hated how little screentime he got. Those dollar signs flashed in his eyes, and so a spin-off was born.
Not really. He probably heard that Sam is not wanting to do it, and that's put him off the idea. As I said, Tobey, Kirsten and the rest have always said that they'd keep going if Sam is the director.
Doc Ock said:That doesn't really state that he's changed his mind about anything. He says he's exhausted and wants a break from the Spider-Man franchise.
Doc Ock said:Avi Arad is known to be full of it. This is not the first time he's mentioned a Venom movie. He did it before years ago, and we're still waiting.
Doc Ock said:Nonsense. There was never any doubt that Spider-Man 3 would make huge money. The Spider-Man movies have always been the most profitable comic book movies in the industry.
I'm Venom said:Those dollar signs probably disappeared when Topher said "no" to the role.
I think it's pretty clear that he was set on being done with it, citing the need to be with his family, content with the three movies as a self-contained trilogy, etc. Since then he's said that he would return if Raimi did and if the story was good.
Yet we know from a recent update that not only is Raimi looking for a new writer, but he wants to work on SM4 in some capacity. So unless his idea of a break is one month, I'd say Raimi has reconsidered leaving the series.
You mean the Goyer film?
To be fair, I think a Venom spin-off is much more plausible now than it was back then, now that the Spider-Man franchise and Venom himself have all been established.
That's not what I was referring to. I meant that Arad saw fans complaining about Venom's minimal screentime and instantly thought "Spin-off!" as a way of capitalizing on Spidey fans.
Unless Topher can travel through time, his "no" doesn't really mean anything.
You ever think that maybe every actor is not that shallow to do a crappy movie for a fancy price?
