The date is irrelevant, this is the marketing reason behind the placement of the trailer.

Moviegoers will begin their Recall experience on Sunday, April 1, as Columbia Pictures debuts the trailer for the highly anticipated action thriller Total Recall during the NBA game between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat broadcast nationally on ABC, it was announced today by Marc Weinstock, president of Worldwide Marketing for Sony Pictures. Total Recall will be released in theaters nationwide on August 3, 2012.

The world premiere of the Total Recall trailer will air during the first half of the game and will be promoted with tune-ins in the week leading up to the game.

Following the trailer's premiere on ABC, a special extended trailer will debut online at www.apple.com/trailers.

The trailer will also launch simultaneously in over 30 countries on broadcast and online outlets.

Commenting on the announcement, Weinstock said, "We're thrilled to be working with the NBA and ABC to give millions of fans all across the country this exciting first look at the trailer."

Premiering the trailer with a highly anticipated basketball match is great way to get audiences aware of this movie.

The preview was awesome as it reminded me of Minority Report without the blue filter. Looking forward to seeing this.

Teaser for the trailer looks really good! Very reminiscent of Minority Report, which is a good thing considering that the stories are supposed to take place in the same world (I think). Can't wait for the actual trailer!

Really...? Interesting, I didn't know that.

An extended special trailer? really? :( damn. Sunday can't come any faster.

The Celtics are irrelevant this season. There games aren't really highly anticipated. Don't think many are going to watch the Heat crush them.

Well, I can't be sure about the short stories by Philip K. Dick...but I DO know after they made the original Total Recall, they planned on making Minority Report as a semi-sequel to Total Recall and Arnold have played Douglas Quaid instead of Jon Anderton (Cruise's character).

Either way, I just think it's cool that both of these Philip K. Dick-based films look like they could exist in the same world.

Agreed, that is cool.

is it me or do the effects look shoddy? (I know it's a teaser and not HD but I wasn't impressed).

The teaser of a teaser..was pretty cool!

Liking the set design. It has a Blade Runner/Batman Begins feel/vibe about it.

Ya looks great, I think this will be a surprise hit, I love the world of Phillip K. Dick, it really does match some of Minority Report (minus Colin Farrell being in both lol) and Blade Runner, with a hint of its own. The flying car stuff looks amazing, love the "Spinner" type of look.

Wait... Farrell was in Minority Report? I thought it was Tom Cruise??

Collin played Danny, an agent from the government to check into the Pre-Crime division and watch Edgerton (Cruise) and see if it should be nation wide. It kinda was what gave Collin a known name. That was the first big film I remembered him in.

That little teaser looks alright. I agree some of the effects are looking a little iffy right now, but it's got several months of post-production to go yet, so that doesn't bother me.

It's looking very reminiscent of Blade Runner and the Fifth Element, which I guess is a good thing, as long as Len Wiseman can bring his own style to the table as well (something I'm not entirely confident he'll do yet).

I think the effects look fine, for the quality of video it was.

I think this may bring Len some cred, I think Live Free and Die Hard was not that bad actually, and now a Phillip K. Dick adaptation has me more excited. I dunno why I just have a good feeling on this, (hell I may be wrong) but I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Not getting the critique on the VFX. I never shy away from calling out bad VFX work but everything looks incredibly well done for this movie.

There is an HD option by the way. You can really appreciate the detail of that first shot of the city that way. They're not even using an overt amount of spatial anti-aliasing to cover the distance of the cityscape. They actually took the time to work on every nook and cranny.

Seeing this on an LED screen with the HD option on certainly helps though.

I like the Minority Report look it has but I forgot Colin was even in that until mentioned in the thread lol I really like that movie to.
