'Total Recall' ready for revival

Well, to be fair, it was only snippets of the acting in the trailers so it's a hard call. But Wiseman, who is a good visualist, is like a more polished Paul WS Anderson in my eyes.

Problem is, when I see a Wiseman film, I know for a fact there will be bad CGI. And the PWSA comparison is absolutely the best way to describe him. Kudos.

Yea the original really had that bite to it. It was hyperviolent, almost dream like. Which helped with the ambiguous nature of it and whether the whole thing was a dream or not.

The original Total Recall was actually a fantastic and pretty complex performance from Ahnuld. His best ever imo.

Agreed. That, Last Action Hero and True Lies. His best roles, hands down.

But yea, Farrell is a great actor, better than Ahnuld ever was. I don't think Farrell's ever actually been actively bad in anything, despite working with some horrible scripts in horrible movies. I mean, his performance alone (and Rosario Dawson's ****) makes Alexander worth watching.

Agreed on all counts, save for Alexander. His honest efforts were not enough to make me stomach that abomination of a movie.

That's because you had Verhoeven directing it, not f***in' Wiseman.

Yeah, it's a wave of post-Michael Bay type directors of the early 2000s. Kinda like how Spielberg had Robert Zemechis, Joe Dante and Joe Johnston in the 80's.

lol well yea, there is no doubt that Verhoeven>>>>Wiseman. I'll give this film a chance though, i love sci fi and i'm a fan of Farrell.

The original Total Recall was not only crazy, but it was surreal and at times scary. It's very tongue in cheek.

I just think the new one is just..watered down. I hate it when producers claim a new adaptation is more faithful to the original source when it's 90% of the time not.

The reason I'm not crazy about the original is because it took Dick's story and transformed it into an 80s action flick. But damn was it a fun and interesting 80s action flick.

Of course I won't totally poop on the film till it's release. But so far, I'm kinda meh on it. And there's no mystery since we had the first film UNLESS this new one has another twist.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but at least Bay has a vision. A crappy and totally insulting one, but even in that negative way it's something. Wiseman is absolutely run-of-the-mill.

I'm waiting for reviews here. But not from those that liked today's trailer.:oldrazz:

Very true. Perhaps I should add Jonathan Liesbman to the Wiseman and WS Anderson group. I hope that Ninja Turtles ends up being decent due to the screenplay.

You HAVE heard about their origins, right?:woot:

Well there's major backtracking on Bay's and Liesbman's part, now claiming that the original quote was taken out of context and that it's remain true to the mythos. But I know a 'spin' when I see one. I think Bay had an idea of what he wanted, and out of ignorance, he thought he can get away with it. Now, due to the backlash, they went going back to the script, with Kevin Eastman (the writer) helping their asses out.

Ah, I hadn't heard about the backtracking. I just couldn't believe my eyes when I read that the creators backed him up and one of them was even excited about a planet full of turtles. Jesus H. Caviezel. JESUS.

Yeah, we will see. Either way it's good for hype. But like what many of said, the charm of the Turtles is how they are very in-touch with Human culture. They instantly know and embrace what we take for granted. If they have to 'learn' our culture, then it'll be a disaster and a lazy story that harkens back to Transformer 1.

Actually, they might as well have made Thundercats instead of TMNT.

Or Battletoads, if that was ever big in Greece; it was briefly big in America because as a video game, it was famously hard. I mean super hard.. That game came out back in 1991, and I just remembered how it was essentially Ninja Turtles in Space.

At least 5 controllers were smashed due to Battle Toads. Dear god it was like torture for the mind.

The game was very famous here. And I do remember how hard it was! But you're right, BT is a better example. Leave it to Bay to f**k up the wrong franchise, though.

Smashed everything on my grandma's coffee table. That would explain my pocket money decreasing after 1992...

You've said Bay has a vision and it's true, he does. His films are very Michael Bay, which is great on his part. That being said, we have witness his de-evolution as a film maker. I think since the failure of The Island, his soul was so crushed that he reverted back to a teenager who just discovered his dad's Playboys. I swear, his films now are much more silly and dumbed down than his classics like The Rock. All thanks to Transformers.

I hope..I really hope his next 'small' film can grant him some peace because I think he's losing his mind.

It actually pisses me off how much Bay has regressed as a film maker. Whenever i see The Rock or even Armageddon i just think "What the hell happened to the guy?"

They both had great action, but great character moments too. Like in Armageddon, that montage of the government tracking down and putting all of Harry's team through tests is some brilliant character work. There is more characterisation there than in the whole TF franchise.

And it was full of emotion. Like Harry pushing AJ back in the lift on the asteroid, speaking to his daughter then blowing the thing up. But what really got me, and still gets me to this day, is when they land and Chick's son comes running out to greet him. Fantastic.

Oh and Jason Isaacs is ****ing awesome in that movie.

I loved Bay circa 1995-1996. I think Armageddon was the beginning of the (creative) end with The Island being its peak. TF is just the sad aftermath. Let's hope he comes back.

See, the tests were great, but the film reeked of melodrama after they took off. Hence my previous post about the Arma being the beginnin of the end.

yeah, it seems like he lost all of those character moments in Transformers. Keep in mind, he's been directing those Trans-films back to back for half a decade. It's time for him to move on, or least take a break from that series. (Until the fourth film)
