'Total Recall' ready for revival

LMAO the new movie looks way more like the old movie than the short story aside from that shallow observation. This is why I won't see it. I liked the other movie just fine but I don't have to see it again and frankly the CGI during that cops scene made me laugh instead of go "whoa cool".

The short story isn't the most cinematic thing out there due to it's length but a creative mind could reinterpret it a lot more faithfully instead of just retreading the beats of that other movie based on the same source. Maybe they felt it would be way too somber for a summer blockbuster in terms of tone. But please; a spade is a spade.
Of course it's based on the original film. It wouldn't have been named Total Recall if it weren't. The director is full of **** when he says that it's based on the story. Then why name it Total Recall because last time I ****ing checked that's not the name of the original story. It's named "We Can Remember it for you, Wholesale" and not Total Recall.

I'm going to go into ***** mode and say that I question someone's taste who believes that Len Wiseman is a good or even remotely interesting director who will somehow make a better version of the story than Paul Robocop Vorhoven.

Name one goddamn movie that Wiseman has directed that is even half as good as Robocop? Or Total Recall for that matter? Yes, those movies don't exist. He directed a mediocre to slightly above average Blade Ripoff and a terrible PG:13 Die Hard movie. He certainly isn't the worst director around but he is at the bottom of the barrel. His Total Recall remake will be lucky to be as "good" as Underworld.

Ok since you have unchained the ***** mode I will activate my ******* mode as I've had a bad day. Verhoeven is a ****ing average gore hound director who's best movie was actually a Dutch film called Black Book. He relies on cheap gore and crass imagery to get his shtick over. Robocop is a classic from a script perspective because it's a great satire, he covers up for his lack of creativity by slapping a **** load of gore on top that gives hard ons to boys still wishing it was the 80's "Cause cussing a blood is kewl dood". Total Recall of the 90's is a solid action movie with over the top gore and dreadful acting by all but Michael Ironside. I'd take Wiseman's Die Hard movie over it any day of the week, and this looks way better than that Total Recall IMO.

Love,
Rob

Man I'm glad I quoted ISS and kept my venting gentlemanly because she is a Lady, reading back two pages I can see some posts I would have kicked much harder verbally in the e-face.

was this confirmed? i know that they used CGI to make perfect transition from one shot to another. they planned this shot for around 3 weeks. the camera crew, collin and the CGI guys did a fantastic job.

It was what Wiseman said at comic con regaridng the rig used, I can't say for certain about the one take though.

I need to see a full trailer before I'm convinced, the what little the teaser trailer revealed is promising. The best part is Beckinsale with that group of cops, though; she just looks stunning no matter what.

Ever seen Turkish Delight, Soldier of Orange and The Fourth Man?

Let's be honest here, even if this was a straight up adaption of "We Can Remember it for you, Wholesale" it will still be called Total Recall for name recognition alone.

Total Recall fans trump Philip K. Dick fans. Gotta sell to the masses.

I kind of disagree with you on Robocop, since I think really love that movie, and think it does have a lot of great acting, character moments, etc., but I think I agree with you everything else.

I can sort of see why people like Verhoeven films, but they were never really my thing, to be honest. I mean, I of sort enjoy films that are a bit out of the norm, like Hellboy, Speed Racer and Scott Pilgrim, but Verhoeven's stuff is just a little too bizarre for my taste.

And pretty much the only thing that those films (with the exception of Robocop) have going for them, and why fans of his films love them so much, is because they're so over-the-top bizarre. I guarantee if you tried asking a Verhoeven fan if they could think of some great quality about his films other than how weird and bizarre they were they would be pretty hard pressed to think of an answer.*

I mean, the animatronic practical effects and set design in Total Recall are cool, and there were some other good little moments, but I can't really think of anything else that I really loved about that film.

*And "Because Arnold is in it" does not count as an answer.

Well I like both Verhoeven and Wiseman and I don't really give a good goddamn if someone 'questions my taste' or not. I watch movies for me, not for anyone else and certainly not because I hope to gain some kind of bull **** cred from some anon message board poster.

This movie looks awesome. One love.

No. I am not familiar with his work going back more than 25 years. I looked into them and you couldn't pay me to watch Turkish Delight or The Fourth Man, but Solider of Orange looks like one I might check out.

Weller was very good in Robocop no doubt about that, the moments are in the script but to his credit Robocop is probably the best thing Verhoeven has done in the US.

For the record I wasn't saying I dislike Verhoeven, I am just tired of this "In my day.....pass my teeth" mentality, I hated hearing that when I was a kid and I hate my generation are now singing the same stuff, it's all rose tinted.

I think the movie looks pretty cool. Especially the visuals. I haven't read the story it's based on or watched the original movie though.

I definitely agree with you on that. And Weller's character and the dilemma he goes through really make the movie for me, which is a good thing since he's the main character. :woot:

I've been on other message boards and comment sections on other websites talking about the new trailer for this movie, and they're pretty much saying the exact same thing. Comments like:

"The original Total Recall was the best! Why are they remaking it? This looks dumb!"
"Typical, generic Hollywood trash."
"Why is there so much CGI? It looks something from a video game."

If you go through the internet, you'll pretty much see pretty much any variation on the comments I just listed above. I kid you not. :ikyn

Since I've been pretty well informed on this film, from reading other articles and the like, I know that it's not going to be a complete rehash of the original. However, because many people on the internet are ignorant and set in their way of thinking, they cry foul on something they don't even know that much about.

I swear, some times I wish I could just reach through my computer screen and slap every single person who spouts an ignorant comment. :cmad:

Oh I agree, the youtube comments for this trailer are filled with that crap. It's moronic.

"This ruins the original!" - The ****, what? How exactly? I love the Schwarzenegger film, and odds are I'll love this one too. I'd rather like two movies than one. But even if this one sucks the old one wills till be around.

"Hollywood's out of ideas!" - So are the morons who spew this same tired cliched garbage every time they get near a keyboard.

Seriously, nothing good ever came from NOT doing something. If a guy thinks he can improve on a film, more power to him. If he fails, so be it. If it's awesome, everybody wins.

this is why i hate alot of the current generation

every thing has to be sets and everything has to be practical or puppets lol

like CGI in a film automatically makes something soulless

so many people are stuck in the 80's-90's

I'll take practicality over CGI any day. The CGI doesn't look so bad in this anyway. I particularly like that scene where Colin take out everyone, particularly interesting camera work.

As much as I like the original film, it's not a flawless classic like people are making it out to be.

I'm considering reading some PKD, but I don't want to go in blind, especially since I don't usually read much sci-fi. For those who've read his stuff, how difficult is it to get through, on a scale of 1-10?

It looks decent, but it doesn't hold a candle to the campy fun Schwarzenegger film.

I didn't know Bryan Cranston was playing the big baddie.

Ticket sold.

I'm going to see this regardless of what any raging nerds says.

The original was far from flawless. If anything, imo, it was the most problematic Verhoeven flick, along with Hollow Man. I'm judging this on its own. And it looks generic and uninteresting as hell.
