Age of Extinction Transformers 4 is going to be AWESOME. - Part 1

I feel like Marky Mark's daughter and boyfriend are really gonna bring this movie down.

Never had any doubts, one of the government agents also looks like he's going to be a joke.

All the photo realism that was one of my biggest compliments of this franchise has been completely thrown out the window. Nothing looks "bad" per say but the level of CGI looks relatively run of the mill. The action scenes are still staged quite well but I'm disappointed in Bay for compromising the photo realism he successfully was able to accomplish in his past films.

Bay is a master of knowing how to properly film and light a shot for ILM and the other VFX companies to do great work so it's a bummer for me that he let that polish go down the tube to save the studio some money.

These movies were never all that great when it came to the plot but I have always commended them for being the top of the crop when it came to its almost flawless/impeccable work on its CGI.

Still looks like a lot of fun but I'll seriously miss that photo realism. It's subtle and probably not noticeable to many but it is to an obsessive compulsive who's quite picky when it comes to VFX like me I suppose.

I know what you mean, but they still look quite impressive, the last shot of the first trailer with Optimus vs Grimlock looked really good. I think we should wait until the finished product arrives, but with a smaller budget, it probably wasn't all that wise to keep making the films as big in scope as the previous one.

Remember when Bay was saying how his 3rd film wouldn't be bigger, but deeper instead, even cost a bit less than Revenge of the Fallen, then it came out and actually was more epic and looked better than the previous film.

To be fair, a lot of people said the same thing about the first spot and then we got the 1st trailer and the cgi was much improved. Saying the photo realism has been thrown out the window after just a trailer seems a little pessimistic, the final product is always polished regardless of what people say about Michael Bay.

As for the trailer, it's like every other Transformer trailer, exciting visuals with great intensity, which doesn't necessarily mean great movie ie the last 2 TF movies. Just have to wait and see if the final product pays off.

Do you think Grimlock will even transform? I bet that will be in the last action scene.

I enjoyed that. Optimus was pretty much the focal point of the trailer with the humans being kind of the side characters. I know it probably won't be like that during the flick, but they knew how to promote it.

is it just me or this movie is getting no buzz I remember when I was just reading the boards and not posting that the transformers pages were full
of debate and buzzig with every new reveal with this one it just feels
like nobody gives a dam?

it looks like more of the same and I agree it looks like the annoyance of Shia got replaced with Wahlberg's daughter and boy toy in this one:csad:

and Optimus once again comes in to whipe out every threat with one swing

Starting to look a bit too repetitive to be honest, i just hope they finally have a space battle, i think there are already enough city fights.

I'm looking through the voice cast on Wikiedia.. and it looks like bumblebee still can't talk? lol

Glad that Frank Welker is voicing Galvatron

Unfortunately, under Michael Bay's helm I don't think we'll ever get just the Transformers.

He likes to blow real s**t up and use real cities.

Around these forums Transformers has been getting less hype with each new instalment, yet, the box office gross is only increasing. I don't think this fill make much more than the last one, or if it's going to make as much, but i don't think people have completelly lost interest in the series.

He can still have the humans in the mix, but i just wish he would start using more interesting places. I didn't mind it as the end for the previous trilogy, but it's time to move on, with this new trilogy he needs to evolve creativelly or go home, he said he was thinking of only Producing the next films, i wonder who he would hire to Direct such a big project, hopefully someone with a more positive film history, instead of a 2nd tier Michael Bay like Jonathan Liebesman.

I agree.

A lot of it looks ''same old, same old'' but I'll wait to see the movie before I make my final judgements.

I remember watching the special features on ROTF and he wasn't too happy with having the scene where Megatron is revived flies off into space to meet The Fallen and that kind of irritates me. Like give the human characters a f*****g break for a minute will ya and let the damn robots have some time!

Really? Does he state why he wasn't pleased with it?

I wanna hear more of the Transformers talking... I've always thought the Transformers cartoons has best voice acting of any show ever.

He just thought the whole thing looked unnatural and there was too much CGI.

That's weird of him to say, though he does have a lot of scenes without CGI. Anyone thinks it would be possible to make the Transformers motion captured with an actor a la Golum and Davy Jones? In least the CGI artists wouldn't have to do the whole thing.

It's all the same if you only look at the things that are the same, such as the overall premise(giant robots, save the world, explosions, giant third act, optimus). It's very different if you look at the actual premise.

For example the first film was about first contact, meeting robots, meeting humans, bee and shia, all spark...etc.

To insist that those same humans that were filled with wonder in the face of making first contact with the aliens are the ones now talking about making their own and using their metal...we have a lead adult in Texas working who is going to incorporate his entire family in the conflict(vs shia and his girl friend), optimus struggling with fighting for mankind(that's new)....
It's hardly the same thing.

Just because you aren't dealing with Prestige vs Inception here doesn't mean you aren't dealing with Spiderman 1 vs Spiderman 2.

imo.

You won't and haven't gotten all cgi characters in any live action movie. That's simply not how hollywood is built for a hand full of reasons.
-red carpet/talk show circuit
-budget
-humans leading movies for audiences

It's a different game in animation. Something like avengers is prime for hollywood and nerds but TF is a very different animal. A better creative compromise could be struck but this constant insistence from fans is ill placed and over stated. All transformers..
That fans think bay is somehow going to change all of that and with this much money on the line...no.

I'm personally curious how they will approach this problem in the tmnt movie for (due to mocap) a few other things it's alot more possible get wiggle around the issue for everyone. Still A human, with a pretty face need be present.

Godzilla, Apes, Avatar..all lead by pretty and or marketable familiar humans.
Secondly, just because a film has a major human plot line(see the films I just listed) doesn't automatically make it lesser of a film, I'm sure the audience would agree. No surprise fans want what they want but at some point people will need to start looking at these for what it is they actually offer.

On the issue of CGI, you never know till the final film drops. I learned that with IM1. Bay may have a reduced budget here but it's still higher than his budget for TF1. Looking at the shot where Bee transformers in the car show, I have a feeling things will look at their best after the final passes.
Not all TF shots look perfect, but many do, that's the tradition.

I think it looks like it has a bit more emotion than the other films. And it seems to be putting more emphasis on the bots themselves, which is a good thing imo. Either way, if we get more of the ams I'm not complaining. No matter what you say about the other films, they all were visually amazing. Ill just sit back with my popcorn and enjoy :D

anyone noticed the shot of a jumping car punching a guy in the face?

this is the kind of unique action that Bay is known for. but its like he is holding back. there is so much mediocre action in the trailer.

That's the Rally car that has been stated is a Bot...But not one image of it's Bot mode has been seen anywhere.

Someone on TFW2005 has spotted a Bot mode that is interesting... Bay's used the design Josh Nizzi created in his 'Create a Transformer' tutorial...

Do you think Grimlock will even transform? I bet that will be in the last action scene.

You know I'm kind of worried that Grimolock and the other Dinobots won't transform for some reason. I just don't fully trust Bay, he may just throw some of the Dinobots in the movie and not even give them personalities, speaking lines or transform into robot forms.

Also looked that way when the trailer of the 3rd film came out, if you look closelly, there are multiple factors and clues that point towards this being like the others. Case in point being the Daughter and her boyfriend, the government guy who seems to be going to play the role of the greedy incompetent and is even seen screaming "Oh My God!" in the other trailer, the metal beard bot, evil agents and other scenes.

So will i, the special effects and action are usually pretty good, and Transformers 3 was one of my favorite 3D experiences, if this film is as entertaining as that then i'll have a blast.

I think IGN once stated that scene was the boyfriend of Wahlberg's daughter driving the car and doing that stunt. Seems like it's going to be one of those cheesy scenes making a joke out of the government agents.

I doubt they will transform, and even doubt more that they will speak. I don't really mind that, though i was never all that familiar with the cartoon in the first place.

I agree. Like you posted, either he is holding back or it could just be that I'm burnt out after three films with the same action in them.

I personally hope that it was the ''mediocre'' action in the trailer and the awesome action is saved for the actual movie.

Bay has definitely toned down the trailers...and he's definitely hiding stuff... Namely the 'Car Chase from Hell' that we saw filmed for what felt like the entirity of filming...
