I still can't believe that part in the first paragraph actually happened. That would have been like shooting the Witwicky's family dog, after it peed on Ironhide's foot. But since it was an ugly alien, and not a cute dog, it was ok.

On what planet were you having conversations with people about Avatar and Titanic being "dumb"?

You know what people mean by "dumb" in the TF case. Mindless action chalk full of juvenile jokes and innuendo. That happened in those movies? Really? LOL :whatever:

I don't think TF movies are "dumb". I think they are insulting and intentionally offensive. Basically a middle finger from Bay that says "I know what you think is stupid, and I'm going to amp it up to 11 just to show you how much I don't care."

Are Twilight movies dumb? In terms of story and acting, I guess. I've never really seen them. But I do genuinely believe that the people who make them are going in with the best intentions of adapting the books as faithfully as possible and appealing to those fans.

The TF movies don't do that. They are just a vehicle for Bay to express his military and explosion fetish. I'm genuinely surprised by the number of actors like Tucci and McDormand who sign on to these movies, but I guess the paycheck is that good.

This sort of negative conjecture is almost as obscene as what it's actually accusing. But it doesn't look to be slowing any time soon.

Try looking up interviews and hearing the actors explain for themselves as to why they sign on. Of course they could be lying, but then again...

He's nearly said as much in some recent interviews.

Don't even act like there isn't a massive backlash against those films.

It's so funny, people whine, and moan, and complain, and act superior to Bay films and perpetuate the idea that as long as he's making movies, the art is screwed. Yet while they are doing this, they forget they just blew their load over an X-Men film, a Captain America film, Edge of Tomorrow, 22 Jump Street, How To Train Your Dragon 2 and are most likely about to again for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Guardians of the Galaxy.....you know, all films this summer that have gotten or are geeting great reception from critics and audiences.

Good blockbuster entertainment is still being produced. In fact, this summer seems to be a especially strong. So please, spare us the self important diatribes about how Bay is some cinematic arsenic that is poisoning the art form as we know it and let audiences have their fun. You are not better than these people. You are not smarter than these people. Not everyone who goes to the movies is looking to be challenged on their world view, and they don't have to be. There is room in cinema for the silly and the serious and everything in between.

The simple fact is you aren't going to like everything and some movies are going to piss you off. That's life as a movie buff. Get used to it. You think a film is thoughtless garbage? Fine, by all means continue to do so. But how about next time you don't shell out the cash to watch something you are already sure you are going to hate. Spare yourself the pain.

Honestly not everything will be top notch I for one hated Godzilla but most Loved it while I LOVED XDOFP but half the group i went with thought it was boring it what makes us unique our individual taste :yay:

Movies are like food...sometimes you want that New York Strip cooked medium rare with onions...sweet perfection.
Sometimes you want a nice Caesar salad
Sometimes you want a Double Quarter Pounder from McDonalds. Sure it's crap food and you know it but sometimes that's what you got the taste for.

Yea but whilst morally repugnant garbage like this makes millions of dollars... genuinely great films like Edge of Tomorrow don't even make 100 million domestic and films like Snowpiercer struggled to even get wide release!

It's a damning indictment on audiences. It's proving meddling philistine studio execs right. **** original, intelligent stories and properties. It's all about the IP, the sequel, the reboot, the big brand names.

And if Transformers was just silly mindless fun i don't think many people would have a problem. I know i wouldn't.

But Transformers isn't just silly miindless fun. It's morally bankrupt. We're talking about films that are mainly aimed at kids and teenagers... that have jokes about 17 year olds ******* off their 20 year old boyfriends. That have aliens distinctly designed to look like vaginas with teeth being executed simply because it's a vagina with teeth. About "heroes" who actively ENJOY killing and brag about it. That have thinly veiled jingoistic neo-con politics. That are clearly misogynistic and borderline racist?

Is this material acceptable viewing for children and teenagers who will no doubt think gleefully killing your enemies makes you a bad ass? That women are nothing but eye candy who should be protected and saved?

These films don't get such vitrolic hate because they are innocent, mindless fun. They get vitrolic hate because they are morally repugnant and represent the very worst in humanity.

I think this is more an issue with marketing. Edge of Tomorrow looked like someone ripped off Ground Hog's Day. Every time I would see it in the theaters I would hear someone make a Ground Hog's Day comment. I probably wouldn't have seen it if my movie compadre said he wanted to because it was getting good reviews.

and Snowpiercer...I've not seen one ad or commercial for it...and I live in Los Angeles.

That is true. But with Snowpiercer it's like i said. Studio execs are afraid of films like that. They don't want to risk paying money for original, intelligent films like that.

Why? Because audiences would rather stay in their comfort zone than try something new and original... despite the apparent calls for more original films.

so you are saying original, intelligent science fiction movies are not being made because of Transformers?

In a way, yes.

Why would a studio exec greenlight a completely original sci-fi film that needs a 150 million dollar budget when they know audiences will just flock to the big franchise film instead?

I don't really blame people for that. There is nothing wrong with going to the cinema to see some explosive action movie that is part of a well known franchise. Course not. That is what the cinema is all about really.

But for me and a lot of other people, Transformers isn't simply an mindless explosive action movie. It's something much more insidious and morally rotten. It isn't just junk food like a Big Mac. It's something that has gone off and will give you salmonella. Like a 2 year out of date hot-dog that has been laying underneath the deep fat fryer for a year.

I honestly don't know what has happened to Bay. Look at films like The Rock and Armageddon. Compare them to his Transformers sequels. The Rock and Armageddon have moral compasses. The heroes are REALLY heroes. Bruce Willis' sacrifice in Armageddon is fantastic. Compare his Harry Stamper with this Optimus Prime.

I just don't understand why we can't get a Transformers movie that more like TRANSFORMERS: PRIME ! The writers of the series on that show knew how to keep the mythology intact and still present the Transformers in a new light. We got to see Optimus vs Megatron, Unicron, The revitalization of Cybetron , Bumblebee voice restored, Upgraded Optimus, etc....

Morally repugnant? Puh-leeeeeez. When did the world become so goddamn whiny?
And that whole vagina with teeth argument is so incredibly stupid it doesn't even deserve mention. People yell that these films are devoid of any sort of intelligence, depth and merit...yet they then go to analyze a throw away joke and act like it's some Freudian slip from the writer, director and animators. You take everything else about these movies at face value except when you can distort into something it's not to act like they are some damaging filth meant to pollute our childrens precious minds.

Children aren't stupid, nor are they as weak as people LOVE to act like they are. You know what any random kid see's when the one robot kills the alien? Probably a funny scene where a robot kills an alien.

But oh no! What do us adults see? Michael Bay thinly masking his deep seeded misogyny in a short scene that probably costed thousands of dollars to make.

I highly, highly doubt a kid is going to grow up hating woman because some CGI bug that made us ADULTS think of a vagina got killed by a robot. "You see doctor, I think it all started when a saw Transformers 4...."

Film Criticism: The Art of the Talking S--t Too Seriously.

I haven't seen this film yet and really didn't like Revenge of the Fallen or Dark of the Moon but it's ridiculous how some of you are acting like this franchise had sex with your mothers.

And no, these films aren't marketed towards kids. Nothing in the advertisement indicates at all that they are aiming these films at little children. Pre-teens and teenagers? Yes. Young children? No.

They are rated PG-13 after all.

Yea it's a throwaway joke. But what kind of ****ing joke is that? A vagina alien with teeth getting executed for being a vagina with teeth. Hilarious! What kind of joke is the innuendo about a 17 year old being great at ******* off her 20 year old boyfriend?

Children aren't stupid, nor are they as weak as people LOVE to act like they are. You know what any random kid see's when the one robot kills the alien? Probably a funny scene where a robot kills an alien.

They ain't stupid, but they are easily influenced. It's the age where they are shaped and molded.

What do you think a kid thinks when they see the "hero" executing a helpless enemy begging for his life?

But oh no! What do us adults see? Michael Bay thinly masking his deep seeded misogyny in a short scene that probably costed thousands of dollars to make.

Why does he include jokes about 17 year olds ******* off 20 year olds though? Why does this joke exist but to pander to the creepy *******s in the audiences?

**** like that just isn't necessary for a film that has the pretense of being an action adventure about good guys vs bad guys.

If it was in some 70s explotaition film that knows what it's doing is morally repugnant? Fine.

I'm not offended by the vagina tooth alien thing in regard to what effect it will have on kids. Children who are watching pg-13 movies have probably seen worse. What I'm offended about is that those sort of things are what Bay puts into his movies for no reason whatsoever.
It's tasteless, out of place, and done only for cheap laughs. I'd rather watch a movie that doesn't feature things like that, and plenty of other summer blockbusters don't stoop to that level of ridiculousness. They should just name the next one "Transformers 5: **** you, give us your money"

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be a dick but I honesty can't take this moralizing BS seriously.

The film is a PG-13, marketed to older kids and teenagers. If you are so worried about the film ruining a child's world forever and ever, don't take your kid (if you have one) to see it. And advise friends who have small children not to as well, even though it's really none of your business to tell them that anyway unless they ask.

Ya, kids are impressionable. That's why it's up to parents to actually, you know, parent and not expect the directors of the films we take them to to do it for us. If every kid got f--ked up growing up by seeing something that they maybe shouldn't have in a movie then the world would be even worse off then it already is.

And I'm pretty sure most littler kids wouldn't even GET the joke you keep referencing as some kind of ultimate scene of depravity.

How about a Transformers - G.I Joe - Ninja Turtles cross-over movie in future ?

Technically speaking, Bay is the producer for two of the franchises and Paramount and Hasbro own the rights.

I'm all for parents taking responsibility and teaching them right from wrong. I don't think video games and movies make people turn into nut cases.

But my point is... WHY include a joke about a 17 year old ******* off a 20 year old? What is the purpose of this? The only people who will find that funny are creepy dudebros who have probably ****ed underage women. Why accommodate those kinds of people in any way, shape or form?

Bay is just pandering to scumbags with jokes like that. It's just not necessary in an action adventure film about Transformers. It's insane. It's morally repugnant.

Like i said, compare Bay's films like The Rock and Armageddon to these Transformer sequels. The differences are distinct. The Rock is rated-R, but it has a clearer moral compass than these PG-13 Transformer films! The heroes and even the villains in The Rock have more morals than Optimus Prime and his Autobots! Insane!

And we ain't even talking about the thinly veiled Neo-Con crap that Bay is forcing into these movies. Mindless explosive action is fine. But if you're gonna have political allegories at least make them neutral so the audience can decide for themselves.

Why include it? To make people laugh. Just because you found it unfunny and inappropriate doesn't mean everyone else should. Simple as that. And again, I'm sure Bay thought "I actively want to appeal to perverts so I'll be REALLY racy and make the girl 17 instead of 18! AHHHA!" The guy was 20. Not 40. Not 30. Not even 25. Just 20.

The arbitrary gap between 17 and 18 isn't a big deal.
