Well in the recent interview for his film Disturbia Shia Lebouf began his little description of Transformers stating the film has 20 set pieces. While Spider-man 2 had only 5. I find this hard to believe considering the fact that Spider-man 2 had a budget of 200 Million. 50 Million more than this film and take into thought that 300 was filmed for only 60 million which means the difference between the two films could have nearly financed 300. Seems fishy to me that there is that much action going on. Unless the set pieces are less then 15 seconds long Micheal Bay must being doing something to get all the explosions and CGI. I just dont know how all of that can work on a budget that big while Ghost Rider had a budget of 120 Million ,only 30 million less than Transformers, and the action sucked. Maybe I am wrong about the Budget. Thoughts??

Well When things are done useing practical movie magic instead of only CGI sometimes you save money case in point "The Punisher". The punisher had good action, decent explosions and the filmmakers didnt have a big budget. As far as shia labadorretriver or what ever his name is. What he said has been said by a bunch of people working on the film (Bay, Black Ty, Writers etc..) I think that most of the sets are full size robot stand-ins. And it does not hurt when you have the God of cinema (Spielbergstein) Banking it. I also think the budget is bigger then what they are saying. But hey what do i know?

No seriously what do I know?

-spielber
-ILM
-spielberg a good friend of lucas
-lucas = ILM
-150 milions a lot money for good CGI.

ok? :cwink:

Lucas is a pioneer and his pioneering ship is ILM. Now, any good pioneer knows that a good pioneer must take good care of his pioneering ship so what does a pioneer do? Pour lots of money into his pioneering vessel, thus in the end, ILM > everybody else 'cause we get to hold Lucas' wallet and so we're always revolutionary.

20 SET PIECES?! THIS IS GONNA ROCK!!!!:woot:

Thats what Shia said. 20 set pieces but sometimes he likes to run his mouth. Set pieces sometimes cost upwards of 30 million dollars to do and a 150 million movie would defintley be under some pressure unless Spieldy goes "hey im steven mother *****ing spieldberg!! WHERES MY DAMN ROBOTS!?!?!?!" ,I doubt the set pieces will be that great. I just want the Bots to get some good screen time and it not to be a scramble for fame like X3 with all those mutants with no faces. I'm afraid each robot is going to be limited to shooting a rocket or a beam or being limited to one line and then gets blown up. uhhhhh I guess i have to hope for the best. BTW this is really really off topic but the Spider-man 3 Figures SUCK!!! IMO I'll tell you why If you ask

This is inaccurate. There are only 12 set pieces. :cwink: Source: Michael Bay

"Almost a 100 days left.

I guess I should start posting every week?

I've been working my ass off - the cut is really coming along -the shots ---awesome. Some of the most difficult renders in ILM history. Sometimes up to 38 hours per frame. The Show West thing was fun to see the scenes play in a 1000 person house. But they just saw 25 minutes so it is hard to feel engaged because they are not seeing the full run of a movie. Harry called me to tell me how he loved it. I see all the dickwad talk back people who claim they have read a finished script. Impossible - I kept the only draft for the last two months before shooting. That's where did major retooling to the script - yes the scene beats are similar but a very different script.

We are still writing the robot voices. They talk about just 20 minutes of action at the end - yeah right. This is by far the most action I have ever put into a movie - I have 12 huge set pieces. Boy I get tired of these lame cry babies on the net.

Perhaps he said twelve, but was misunderstood to say twenty. Either way, twelve sets is still pretty sweet.

HAH I KNEW SHIA IS JUST RUNNING HIS MOUTH!!! Man I'm not watching his interviews anymore. He just likes to over exaggderate a little too much and I dont like to expect alot and get a little. Theres probably 3 big battles. One battle on the highway probably a little after the Qatar sequence and another city sprawling battle between full teams of The Autobots and Decepticons and I say full teams because I doubt Megs is going to be running around early in the movie blowing things up and the Obligatory final battle which better rule!!

they said 20 on themovieblog.. they were obviously mistaken.

but 12 is still alot...

what exactly constitutes a "set piece"?

^^^^^ Exaclty. A set piece is a sequence of a movie that requires advanced planing and corodination and most of the time alot of cash. Set piece examples are the Train Scene in Spider-man 2, The Highway Scene in the Matrix Reloaded. There are supposedly 12 in this movie.

Shia is a great young actor...but his interview skills seriously lack credibility. He curses and provides wrong information in almost all of his interviews pertaining to this movie. he

Tranformers is a musical, actually. There won't be any action, except for the dancing.

Anyone know what 12 set pieces are ?

Ive got-

Blackout base attack

Scorponok vs soldiers

Bumblebee vs Barricade

scientist women vs Frenzy

freeway fight/chase

final battle

It's important to separate Set Piece (done on studio) from locations

1.Archibald Whitwhickey's Ship

2.Frozen Cave (megatron)

3.Qatar base (the post stuff, not the location stuff)

4.Sam's House

5.Pool scene with Iron-hide

6.Warehouse with Sam and Barricade

7.Inside Sector 7 large room with Megatron

8.Small Sector 7 room with allspark and BB

9.Hoover Dam mock up

10. Final Street fight post work set piece

11. The skoponock fight may have been part set part location...

12. Optimus's Landing site...

13. Airfield with Starscream?

I'm sure that there are others....but these are speculation

I see,so what is the freeway sequence classed as then ?

that's more of a location than a set piece

I always thought set piece meant big action sequence as opposed to literally meaning SET piece.

I wonder is Optimus climbing mount Everest considered one ?

Been reported around 150 mil.

Not bad. Still it's not as huge as was KK's budget. If TF makes more than $180m, then it's already successful blockbuster (especially if you look at it's competiton).

Modernize is wrong. Hes talking literal set pieces. Im talking basically the action sequences which is what set pieces stand for. Modernize is talking about sets. Not set pieces.
