First Impressions

Pros
- Decepticon Interaction: yesssss finally some interaction between them. I especially loved Megatron and Starscream interaction... although looks like Starscream was a bit too much of a wuss around Megs. I liked him better in Reign of Starscream.
-Forest Fight: Holy Crap that was a stunning scene!!! Best fight in the film. Gorgeous.
- Soundwave: I loved Soundwave. Sure you may say he didn't do much but I think his portrayal may be saved for something even better. Ravage rocks too!!
- Sideswipe: cocky and awesome. Needed more of him Very Happy
- mithology: They tried to build some history on the bots. Great on some parts, awful on others.
- Prime: felt more like Prime
- Jetfire and Wheelie. Actually did enjoy them (except for the wheelie humping). They were actually well done comedic relief.

Cons
- TWIIIINSSSSSSS: I have never seen such a horrible stereotype. They were annoying, talked a bunch of trash and offended me so much. And let's not start on that guy at Simmons store who needed to fix his teeth... come on really?!? the nerve.
-Pace: The first hour of the movie is way too fast and full of info. I was trying to catch up to the movie to soak in all the info they were trying to explain.
- Too many TF gimmicks: In my opinion they took many elements of the TF-lore and just threw them in there.... just because. i.e. pretenders, combiners, insecticons? I would've liked of they took one element and place more emphasis on it.
- Devastator: what a waste...
- Unnecessary Scenes: Mom high on brownies (dragged on for too long)/ kitchen bots (waste of money on cgi)/ Alice pretender (no plot development whatsoever...weak)/ Many parts of the last battle (it dragged on forever)/ that guy who wanted NEST shut down
- Things just were soo easy to find/ solve.... 'nuff said
- NOT ENOUGH AUTOBOT INTERACTION AND TEAMWORK. They were pretty dull.
- Humans- took way too much out of the movie. I didn't feel a more leveled balance like in the first one. Sure there were more robots but screen time was mostly human.
- Fallen: a wasted character and not enough development.
- Sideways: wait! That's it?.... wasted
- Over-sexualised humor: Now I do Toilet humor like a sailor, but there were too many sexual jokes that just felt forced and unnecessary. Wheelie humping *groans*
- Simmons- thong... really? His character gets more annoying each time.
- I hate that autobots staying in vehicle mode so much time. But f course there's a budget in the movie. Why can't they talk in alt mode. This could provide more development of character without being too expensive.
- CGI- somes scenes were awfully lighted and rendered by their standards. BB vs Rampage looked bad and the twins in quite a few scenes. They didn't take enough care as in the first one.
- Autobots and Decepticons appearing out of nowhere and being all over the place. It almost felt like some of the bad points of the G1 cartoon and it was laughable.
- recycled scenes- there were four meteors/decpticons falling to earth at one point and that was definitely was from the autobot arrival inthe first film and so were some scenes from the r/c camera plane
- Deaths: These bots die too quickly and easily imo
- Final Battle- Unnecessary red shirts, Why so many constructicons?!?!?! repaiiiints Razz too loooong. Could've have been a lot shorter and better.
- Resurrections- hmmm takes the away from the point of dying.
- Edit: some horrible editing on a few scenes.
- Confusing elements: "wait didn't that helicopter died in the first one?!?!" "isn't that green truck fused with the big monster?" I know the lame explanations to these questions, but i see these and other elements been to confusing to the average movie goer.
- Autobots used as weapons/ pets. That just irritated me.
- Needed more tension without a comedic scene every single minute.
- Movie needs more heart

...ok i can go on forever but I'll stop here.

Now I had a not so good experience while watching the first TF Movie, but at the second viewing I was able to enjoy it more. So I'll do the same with this one. Hope it's better next time.

Overall a 5.5/10

No, the good ones will acknowledge when a movie is simple fun and recommend it on that level. But just because something is intended to be a summer blockbuster doesn't mean it's automatically "fun". It's not that they "can't have fun" it's that they know when something that's packaged as "fun" is simply in bad taste.

These posts illustrate this point more thoroughly: http://blogs.suntimes.com/scanners/2009/06/the_toy_that_does_all_the_play.html

is there a brainless popcorn action summer blockbuster that got a lot of positive reviews? in the last 5 years for example

I dont listen to critics ever since Siskel wondered why there were Bats in the batcave in B89

It's a 7/7.5 for me in my book. I gave the first one an 8/8.5.

I think what knocked points off for me was "Prime Vision" scene with Sam, even in THIS movie it seemed too out there. Also, the pacing in the final battle and the lack of any real Fallen/Prime fight made the ending seem flat, especially compared to the earlier parts of the film.

Entertaining, very cool but somewhat disappointing. I have to see it again to see if I can take more in.

Best line of the movie: "He went to go find you a tighter shirt"

Link?

Also, writing off critics just because you think one made a stupid/odd observation in regards to one of the sacred cows of geekdom is totally smart.

I'm not really a fan of fan-cuts and edits, but I certainly think the movie would improve tremendously by cutting about 45 minutes.

Neither am I, I've never gotten or watched one because I feel that you should like or hate a movie for what it is in regards to the finished product. I was just curious as to if this film was savable in the opinions of all the haters. I do think 45 minutes is a bit much, I was just thinking a few minutes here or there of some of the very much unneeded comedy.

It's funny to me, everyone keeps harping on the critics..but look around these boards for instance..your peepers are echoing the same thing...so my question is...if u have all these people echoing the samething..and i dont mean echoing that it suck'd but more in bad taste...then maybe all these people plus critics have a POINT...

thank you. thats a good example.

of course i disagree with the critics then because its an insult to make MCclane PG13.

wait...can someone clarified this...you're saying "live free or die hard" was brainless fun????

Pros:

Featured the Matrix and I love the Matrix.
The Twins. I thought they were funny and true to how some people I know actually act.
Optimal Optimus
Simmons, Shia, and the new kid were still funny.
Good action, brutal deaths.

Cons:
No character development
Buried Arcee, wasted Devastator
The Fallen was a weak ass
Didn't really add anything new.

Over, a good, funny, entertaining follow-up, but only really a standout in this summer because Wolverine and Terminator failed at everything. Not as good as Star Trek, but certainly better then any other summer action slammer.

I don't get all the animosity towards this film. I saw it today and I thought it was great. My only real criticisms were that it was too long and that it runs out of steam for a bit about half way through, but other than that it was just like the first one with way more Transformers.

My skin was crawling the first time you hear Soundwave speak. That was so friggin awesome.

there's no animosity..u just echo some things everyone else have said..there's no hate..it's just once again legitimate grips...and if other posters who like the film echo the same thing...then that means others have a point..that's all...no hate or animosity...

you know what i like ? at the end when Starscrema tells Megatron that who runs away at least survives. shows that he is not better then starscream he he

Ok the things I didn't like, the hot girl in Sams domitory that turned into a robot, seemed a lttle unbelievable. So now robots made of metal can transform into flesh. That long robot appendage to have a human tongue on the end of it looked rediculous, ok ok metal turning into metal worked in Terminator 2 and 3. I just don't like that it's in a Transformers movie. I found it strange that the autobots at the end were taking orders from Major Lennox, it just seemed weird, the Transformers should be the generals! All the girls at Sam's college were hot, it just took me by surprise, I wonder what women seeing this movie think of that? Prime seemed a little cynical and darker in this one, Optimus is usually the one who has hope! Other than that I enjoyed the spectacle that is Transformers 2!

no link as this was before the internet. I watched it on TV. I didnt write all of them off because of that but it made me wonder why I listen to someone else to tell me if im going to like something. Ever since then I dont liksten to critics because we all dont like the same things.

I'm not saying the movie was perfect. It had it's flaws, just like any other movie. I just don't think those flaws made it a completely horrible piece of trash like other people seem to be ranting about.

It was a Transformers movie. It was just like 07 Transformers, but bigger. I mean, what were people expecting?

And i'm not coming from the stand point like u were saying it was prefect...but PLENTY have people have voiced their opinions...so i think if u just go throught this board/this thread..u would see that what people are saying it pretty reasonable..and not extreme as others are making it out to be..
