Well you make it sound like the bottom line is all money.
The problem isn't being successful... the problem is doing with the sole intention of just making a large amount of money in the shortest amount of time.

Profit was the goal behind TF2... not entertainment...
Whereas with movies like Star Trek... it was the other way around...
Maybe because they were desperate to revitalize the franchise

EDIT:

To quote Iron Man

directors are artists. the studio is the one who gives the director money to make back money.its that simple.

the studio realese through the year a lot of movies that dont make a lot of money. but they have a story and acting. so in summer the same studio realeses tentpole movies. they are called blockbusters. there is only one purpose for those blockbusters and thats ............to make tons of money.
some blockbusters have a better story and some dont have.
would i like that every blockuster has a great story and acting like TDK or LOTR? of course i would.
i am a guy who watches a lot of movies the whole year. and not just US movies. i also watch european movies. french,german,.... movies. those are small movies with a good story and acting. but in summer i will enjoy movies that have tons of action and big epic battles.
we got a good star trek movie, batman movie, iron man movie and more. nothing has changed.

The movie was ok...couldve been a lot better but not overly bad. While it brought plenty of LOLs and the human charecters were fine, the transformer charecters just sucked for the most part. Basically no development, added new transformer charecters for no reason just so they could get blown up. The only new transformers that got any real screen time were the annoying twin autobots which was just dissapointing. The Decepticons got majority of the screen time when it came to the bots which was a bit of a dissapointment, and why are they sooo much better than the autobots in every way, shape, and form?

Probably the best scene for me was when Megatron went into space and landed on whatever planet (dead cybertron maybe?) to talk to the Fallen Prime. We needed more scenes like that for the transformers.

7/10 for me.

Tentpoles like TF allow the studios the invest in smaller films. I agree on Star Trek, if the movie wasn't a hit, Paramount would have probably mothballed the franchise for another few years. There is art and there is business....some films are made for one and some for the other....if I want deep and thoughtful films I know where to go...if I want big dumb action I know where to go for that....Bay didn't cross any "line"...**** fanboys can be SUCH drama queens sometimes

After looking at the box office results..

I hope on the eventual DVD/BluRay packaging, it reads "Best selling Worst Movie EVER!", "Must See Crapfest!", "The movie for all softheads!", and finally, "Micheal Bay's opus of CGI diarrea!"

Seriously... Street Fighter, Wolverine, Dragonball, Paul Blart, Transformers 2... 2009 is the Year of the Dungbeetle.

Haha

I think Michael Bay crossed The Curtis Line, does everybody know what happens when someone crosses The Curtis Line?

I don't even know what is The Curtis Line. Who's Curtis?

Here's the thing, not only is it a bad action movie because it's stupid, it's a bad action movie because it was boring. There's no excuse for boring in an action movie.
No kidding. I find it strange that some people say the only reason this movie has detractors is because some people want everything to be as serious as The Dark Knight. I can't speak for anyone else, but I just want it to be good. I mean, look at Star Trek. Star Trek was as much about fun and humour as this film, and Star Trek was great. This wasn't.

What's incomplete about it? The lack of resolution? What kind of story would you liked to have seen?
I'm pretty sure I would have liked to have seen one that was interesting. One that drove all the action and made it compelling and worth watching.

Sorry, Bay's not an artist. He's a mogul and a product pusher, but not an artist. Not all directors are artists because not all films have artistic integrity. Especially these days.

TF2 is hardly the first lacking integrity....I think the lot of you are upset because it happened to something you all care about...I highly doubt Snakes on a Plane or Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus were made with art in mind

Also, I missed where all artists are supposed to be talented, have integrity, etc.

But, aren't these movies viewed as a bad joke in general?
