I felt the characterization of Optimus Prime is off and I'm not to thrilled with the voice. I'd rather have Peter Cullen.

Yeah, Jake Foushee, who I think worked also on Cyberverse, and is still pretty young I think is miscast as Optimus.
I love Peter Cullen and everything, but he can't play Optimus in everything forever. Secondly, I think they used a non-union voice cast for this likely due to budget reasons or Rooster Teeth being the production studio. Not making excuses, but they likely didn't have an unlimited budget here and had to work with what they had.
Yeah their voices are definitely missed here.
I also hated Megatron owning Prime so easily in the first episode, but hopefully Prime gets his own back at some point.
The union thing is definitely an issue and Neither Peter nor Frank are happy with Netflix. And honestly I agree with them. These characters are their creations and they are still very capable in voicing them they should be given the opportunity to work.
Peter Cullen just turned 79 years old on July 28. Who knows how long he has left to go. He should still have the right to be asked to voice Optimus.
Frank is more than capable of voicing a darker version of Megatron as we saw in Transformers Prime.
i mean that is exactly my point prime came off weak and That’s not usually the case Optimus often can go toe to toe with Megatron. Also Prime’s leadership isn’t as strong as it’s normally depicted.
Grew up watching the 80's show and this is the best incarnation we have gotten since then. I was grinning from ear to ear watching this show. Watched the whole season twice already. I don't mind the changes to some of the characters, most noticeably Bumblebee as I'm not a fan of his anyway, I felt he has gotten too prominent in the TF lore over other characters in the recent year.
The highlight of this was the use of Mirage, who has alway been my favorite TF but only got a handful of lines in the original show.. but got some good screen time in this.
The voices were fine; the actor they used for Prime is close enough to Cullen. As is the voice for Starscream. My only issue with the voices is that the voice effect used for Soundwave makes him inaudible.
I think this Optimus Prime is a relatively new leader, hence why his troops were second guessing him, and Megatron beat him...and if you know the G1 lore from the comics, Megatron is an accomplished Cybertronian Gladiator/Ex Slave, so he is much more versed at combat than the likes of Prime. They showed a mural of gladiator Megatron in the show as well.
Fun fact, the first two TF's shown in the original G1 show were Wheeljack and BB - just like here!
Can't wait for Chapter 2!
Jetfire's character development was definitely the best part of the show IMO and yeah the guardian showing up at the end was pretty epic. I also thought the voice actor for Prime sounded really close to Cullen and I wouldn't mind it even he did take over the mantle for a while.
I love Cullen man, but unfortunately he can't keep doing that voice forever.
Finally finished this and they certainly cranked up the epic ness towards the end for this one. A cameo from one of the guardians was awesome. And Prime at least got a bit of a better showing in the last episode.
I still don’t like some characterisations here, mainly Ultra Magnus and Shockwave. But I could bare it as I enjoyed everything else. Prime’s voice actor sounds a lot like Cullen at times, and seems a good pick to eventually take the mantle.
I also loved seeing Jetfire’s arc and turn actually play out in a TF show, and he made for a suitably badass Autobot once it happened. I am down for the next chapters.
Any idea when we will get the next part of the trilogy?
I’m guessing mid 2021.
