Who doesn’t love a good mockumentary? Whether it’s Spinal Tap, Best in Show, Cloverfield, or something very dark like Man Bites Dog, there are plenty of opportunities for great moments in this unique genre. The trailer for the Norwegian mockumentary Troll Hunter makes it look like it’s more in line with the last two films mentioned, taking a more horror-oriented path than something that one would expect from someone like Christopher Guest. Even with that said, this trailer actually makes the film look kind of funny (if that is intentional or not I can’t really tell). You can watch it below, courtesy of Twitch (via FirstShowing).

This looks pretty sweet.

That's...pretty damn cool. I'm impressed.

Yeah, it's cheesy but in a way, innovative way. It's different, it's fresh and that's why I embrace it. At least they're trying to be different.

Remake is due http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/40721/universal-acquires-rights-remake-troll-hunter

According to The LA Times Universal owns remake rights to the film, which has been described as The Blair Witch Project meets Men in Black meets The Host.
... not gonna comment on what I think about the idea of remakng this but I am very curious as to know from you americans here;

Basically, do you have a similar folk lore about trolls or similar beings who look like this?

I mean, scandinavian troll lore is well known and a part of our history so the connecton we have to this film is well founded. Its like Japan with Godzilla in a way (without the nukes and stuff... hehe,).

so wait, are they releasing the original in the states? or are they just remaking it?

Both, just like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

To answer your question obin gam: no, we don't really have any troll lore or legends (none that are well known, anyway), which is why I don't see an Americanized remake working out so well.

Just because you don't have "something" doesn't mean you can't make a movie about it and have it be decent.

But a movie has already been made about it, in a country where the creatures themselves are culturally and historically significant (and, based on the trailer, looks to be pretty decent). So I'm not really seeing any reason to remake it, when people can just view this film and possibly learn something about a country they didn't previously know much about.

I have a feeling that the American remake will be about Americans going to another country to find trolls. Maybe Canada.

It's the American way!

I loved every bit of this, its a found footage film that is like a mix of Cloverfield and [REC]. I dont know how they can do the American remake unless if it takes place around Canada or Northwestern states like Montana or North Dakota.

Quite easily actually. Just because it's a remake doesn't me the film HAS to be set in America. It could be about American's in Europe tracking trolls.

I got a chance to see this movie and I really enjoyed it, the ending threw me for a loop though.

This film was alright but nothing spectacular for me.

The Trolls look good and the mythology behind them is rather cool but other than that its pretty boring. The student film crew were annoying and there was way too much time in which nothing went on.

I was impressed by how lifelike the trolls seemed and loved those scenes. I didn't really care for the characters aside from the Hunter. Also , I don't get the ending.

Neil Marshall Helms "Troll Hunter" Remake

By Garth Franklin Friday September 20th 2013 01:28PM
"The Descent" director Neil Marshall has been set to rewrite and direct the $25 million English-language remake of the 2010 Norwegian cult hit "Troll Hunter" at IMG Global.
The original followed a group of students investigating a series of mysterious bear killings. They soon come upon a mysterious hunter, and learn the creatures responsible won't just confine their killing to that species.
Marshall will get to work re-writing an earlier script draft from Marc Haimes. He'll also soon secure a lead for the film, and is aiming for a big name actor not normally associated with the genre.
Christopher Columbus, Michael Barnathan, John Jacobsen and Sveinung Golimo are producing. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2014.
Before he films that, Marshall will head to Ireland to shoot the biggest episode of the fourth season of "Game of Thrones." The episode in question is said to be on the scale of Marshall's last episode for the series - the highly acclaimed "Blackwater".
