Tron: Legacy' Director Joseph Kosinski Signs With CAA (Exclusive)
Borys Kit said:
Kosinski broke through with 2010’s visually stunning Tron: Legacy, following it up with his dream project Oblivion, the original sci-fi tale that starred Tom Cruise and was based on a story by the director.

The two movies grossed $686 million worldwide and Kosinski was developing a Tron sequel as well as a big-screen version of The Twilight Zone.

He was working on the Fox racing movie Go Like Hell, which was aiming to reunite Cruise and Brad Pitt, but development on the project may have slowed, according to sources.

Disney, just give me my damn sequel!!

Tron 3 should room with Ghostubsters 3 and Twins 2.

I'm literally listening to "Son of Flynn" right now. Come on Tron 3!

Joseph Kosinski is God for directing something as good as Tron 2 with no prior experience.

I really wonder whether this is happening any more, a couple of years ago I think it was on the cards but now Disney has bought Marvel and Star Wars they dont really care, shame.

I doubt its happening. I dont think there's a huge demand for it.

Yeah, I think the ship has sailed. It's a shame really, but I think the concept is just a little too weird and far-fetched for people. Legacy was such a visually stunning movie (other than the CGI Bridges scenes) but the script needed some work.

^The script did need work, but I really enjoyed the movie all the same. Its a bit weird that Kosinski doesnt seem to be doing anything at the moment though, I wonder if he just prepping this with an announcement on the way or he just doesnt have any options at the moment.

Yeah, the script wasn't anything amazing but I'd take that script over a Ninja Turtles/Transformers any day...

Yeah. It had some problems but I think that's just part of the concept of Tron itself. The whole idea is kind of silly so you either roll with it or you don't.

Yeah, I don't think the concept was the issue.

When Tron got it's sequel greenlight, Disney was desperate for franchises that appealed to boys. Since then it's purchased Marvel and Star Wars so I feel it isn't much of a priority anymore.I think It'll still get made, but they are in no rush.

Pretty much nailed it on your post. Tron is no longer a priority but I doubt they will abandon it. They'll just approach it differently. Maybe lower the budget, spend less on marketing etc.
I don't think the cancellation of Tron uprising helped much either. Although it was very underrated, and I hope it finds a home on Netflix or something.

As Jamon wrote the problem lies in the purchase of Marvel and Star Wars. Tron Legacy underperformed and got mixed reviews and Disney is not desperate for a franchise right now so why should they take a risk and rush out a follow up?

It's no secret that I absolutely hated Tron Legacy but I'd be up for another film if they get a real screenplay together this time and get a director I don't absolutely loathe. I love films about other worlds so I'll never write off Tron completely but I'd like a better than "eh it was okay" Tron for once.

I do hope the fans of the film get a follow up I just ask that that follow up be way, way, way better than the previous film.

Marvel and Star Wars solved the "boy problem" Disney felt they had. Before that, Tron: Legacy was their attempt and it didn't work out for them.

Tron: Uprising was the type of thing they probably should've gone for. Much more entertaining.

Pretty much.

It also didn't help that Tron Uprising didn't find an audience. If it was going strong than I could see them still having some interest in continuing the series.

They eventually set that show up to die. So, no way to gain or maintain much interest from the kids.

I caught uprising on netflix and really enjoyed that show... took an episode or two to get sucked in but it's criminal that show never got a chance at a second season.

Nearly everything about it was great except for the script. Poor CG Bridges aside (you know, at least they tried) the visuals were great and the score was phenomenal. If it wasn't for the characters and the plot it would be one of the greatest blockbusters of recent memory.

Yep. And when you watch Uprising, you can see how much potential that universe had.
