Wait, Daft Punk didn't get an Oscar nom? I thought it was a no brainer. Seriously.
Emily Rome said:The Grid, a world of shimmering, digital wonder, was introduced to moviegoers in 1982 film Tron and then taken to a new visual level in Tron: Legacy in 2010. Now the Grid is going to television and expanding with a wider mythology and new characters and more of the sleek, glowing vehicles that fans love.
Tron: Uprising, which begins this summer on Disney XD, was developed by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, the same tandem that wrote Tron: Legacy, and they say the freedom of animation is allowing to explore the Grid without the constraints of a special effects budget.
The fun thing about animation is all the stuff we couldnt afford in [Tron: Legacy], either because they were financially or technologically prohibitive, we can now do because its animated, Kitsis said.
The duo, now also working on its freshman ABC show Once Upon a Time, has picked up the Grids story right after Clu takes over, which happened years before the events of Legacy. The new show isnt about users those are humans who go into Grid, such as Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) or Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) in the films but focuses instead on programs, the citizens of the Grid. The main character is Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), the unlikely leader of a revolution against Clu.
As Kitsis puts it: What happens when you find yourself occupied by a force that is not in your best interest how do you fight back?
As for the new vehicles, Tron: Legacy designer Daniel Simon is back on the job with creations such as the Light Crawler which you can see in the exclusive early-look image above and a Light Rail, which Kitsis calls basically the coolest train youve ever seen it goes upside down.
In one episode, a fight takes place on the roof of the Light Rail, just one moment that evokes the western spirit that exists beneath the shows high-tech trappings. The Grid, Horowitz explained, is essentially a frontier town.
Mandy Moore and Bruce Boxleitner (reprising his title role from the two movies) join Wood in the cast, while Charlie Bean (Ren & Stimpy, Samurai Jack) is the shows director-showrunner. Tron: Uprising also features the music of Daft Punk.
Hey folks, Harry here. Some interesting developments have popped up about this story, and that's that there may well be two TRON projects bidding to be the 'next TRON movie', but both within Walt Disney's empire.
The first we heard about yesterday and concerned TRON and PIXAR (which is in a deal with Disney, thus being the tie-in for a possible sequel/remake) Then there is the project at Disney Animation (Yes, this has NOTHING to do with the alleged Pixar project, if it even exists) and is called WARRIORS OF TRON, apparently they have a script and are now conducting initial storyboards and animatic tests. And here is the basic rundown on the Disney Animation WARRIORS OF TRON project...
4 high school kids uncover a plot to destroy all the world's computer
systems on Jan 2, 2002. After alerting the authorities, they realize
nobody believes them. They search for help and it leads to an aging
Flynn. Flynn reveals that Alan and Lora died in a car accident 15 years
ago.. He is a recluse, and the guilt has left him feeling responsible in
some way. He dissmisses the teens, but after one of them probes him
about the Tron program, he agrees to send them into the new CPU. they
must compete in games set up by the CPU to destroy the system. Flynn
eventually joins them inside.
That's all that my fella at Disney would let on about, but it's enough that I hope and wish Lasseter godspeed with his project... if one exists.
Yesterday's report lays below this point.
Alright you Pixar animators, publicists, editors, musicians... Yeah you. I know you read the site... I have ways of knowing that stuff. Now fess up, what in the wide wide world of sports is a going on here?!?!?!?
Well, I have a good 30 or so folks that read this
article
over on ZDNET.com, that professes to have a source at PIXAR that's talking about a sequel/remake of TRON that John Lasseter is gonna be heading up.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?
Here is your mission should you choose to accept it. I want you, top secret employee of PIXAR, to spill the beans. I want to know everything that any of you know about this so-called project. If it doesn't exist... I wanna know. If it dood exist... I wanna know. Why do I wanna know? Because TRON is the coolest mother****ing holy mary mother of god cool reaming goat herding marshmellow roasting project this side of the afterlife. And if John is on board then God is on our geek's sides. Please be true.... If true then my 16 mm print of TRON just became my most valuable possession next to that Scary Monkey and Scrubbing Bubble.
Now one final thing super secret PIXAR spy.... Hurry. My pulse is racing. I'm Fat. I could die and never know the truth. Think about my unborn grandkids in my loins. THey must know before the autopsy sets them free. I have to know. Please don't make me beg. Pllllllllllllleeeeaaaaaeeee..... I'm begging you, don't make me beg for it. I have dignity.... I have class.... All the women that want me will see me as the worm that I truly project Quint to be. ARGH!!!
Note to non-PIXAR employees: This is a ruse to get information. Actually a diabolical plan. You see. They won't be able to resist this level of pathetic whiney blubbering. I learned about this technique in a book on the life of Salvador Dali. He always got what he wanted. So.... GET ME THAT INFO.... and a can of Hungarian Moustache Wax.... Yeah.... Baby, my antennae will be erect!
Hey folks, Harry here... And this is the latest from my source over at Disney. Seems the two projects are aimed at totally different market areas... One for Television, the other for film. So... from now on, look for the WARRIORS OF TRON news over on Coaxial, while I'll be continuing to dig into this whole Pixar thing. Hmmm...
1) Warriors of Tron is NOT a PIXAR project. They are working separate
Tron related project, that (The PIXAR one) is shooting for a theatrical release n 2002.
2) Warriors of Tron is being presented as a made-for-tv Disney Sunday
night program...with a series to follow if it is successful.
it has been written with a younger audience in mind, but is DEFINATELY
not a Power VR Ranger rip-off. It will find an audience and use
computers to tie in with the program (internet bonuses) That all that is
being described for now. What "extras" the internet can give is
anybody's guess. I would also like to add that the new series is
proposing to keep the world of Tron the same as the original...in the
name of computer visuals.
Thanks for the clarification. I seriously hope tron comes back, sequel to legacy or not. I fell in love again with Tron and it's world. There's nothing else really like it. There's so much potential.1 seems to be a dead project called warriors of tron that was pushed in 1999.
2 is tron uprising, which is a animated tv show that will be airing in summer 2012 is set.
3 is a new movie being written by new writers as the legacy writers are busy and the director will return to direct it if the tv show is a hit. its going to be used as a measuring stick to see if tron still has a fan base. which I know it does and I have high hopes fir the tv show.

Dave Trumbore said:We brought you a teaser trailer for TRON: Uprising nearly a year ago as well as a clip from this past summers Comic-Con. Now, two years in the making, Disney is planning on rolling out the full series in June of this year. But first, theyre taking an interesting approach on the debut. According to Marsh:
So, theyre probably going to attach these three-minute micro-clips at the end of other popular shows or perhaps port them over to a TRON: Uprising website? No idea. In the meantime, what we do know is that the animated series will feature a combination of traditional (2D) animation with 3D CG animation that will:Were taking a 10-part micro-sode approach, which will begin airing three-minute pieces in April.
As for timing, this series will play out between the original TRON and TRON: Legacy. Heres what Marsh has to say about the plot:Iffer a revolutionary visual aesthetic that is really going to help redefine the kind of animation that you can do on television around the globe. And luckily, weve been able to use the same writers, the same producers, and some of the same vehicle designers, whove created the images for the feature film, in the series.
Whats happened is that Tron has been badly injured by villainous Clu, but he has found a protege, a brilliant young mechanic, who is another program like himself, named Beck and voiced by Elijah Wood, who TRON decides he is going to train to be the next TRON.
Although Daft Punk got the lion's share of the credit for the score to 2010's TRON: Legacy, there were a lot of other talented artists working behind the scenes to help the electronic duo translate their dancefloor-friendly sound into something suitably dramatic. Joe Trapanese was the pair's orchestrator, and he now succeeds them in the TRON saga as the composer for TRON: Uprising, a prequel series that connects the dots between the original 1982 TRON and its long-awaited follow-up.
Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Trapanese at the South by Southwest film festival about his work with Mike Shinoda for The Raid: Redemption, Gareth Evans’ forthcoming action thriller. Additionally, he offered some insights about what fans might expect when TRON: Uprising debuts in the summer of 2012 onDisney XD.
The Hollywood Reporter: What do you have lined up after The Raid? We understand you are doing some more TRON-related work.
Joe Trapanese: Yeah, as a composer I'm composing music for the show TRON: Uprising, which is actually an animated series that delves into the TRON world and it occurs between the original movie and the new movie, and really develops our characters and goes in a different place and it's very exciting to explore that world a little bit more.
THR: For your Uprising music are you using the framework of what Daft Punk and Wendy Carlos did in TRON and TRON: Legacy, respectively? Is it maybe a combination of things, like using Alexander Courage's original Star Trek theme and combining it with Jerry Goldsmith or James Horner's film scores?
Trapanese: Well, that's where the magic is, and that's what makes it so exciting -- that you come into this show excited about the legacy and the framework that you're working in. But what's cool is that we have a long season; we have a lot of episodes to get through, a lot of characters to develop, and what's great about that is you can take that framework that Daft worked so hard on in the film and then explore that. And you can take that story [by] Joe Kosinski and Sean Bailey and Justin Springer in the new film, plus the story of the original film, by Steve Lisberger, put them together and explore it in all sorts of ways that they couldn't even imagine. So its kind of the best of both worlds. You're kind of working within a really strong framework and really strong legacy, but you're also exploring it in ways that you're finding new creativity at every turn.
THR: How much recognition will feel fans of the films experience in your music? Will it at all be the same, or will it be a totally separate score in the way Clone Wars was as a series to the Star Wars films?
Trapanese: I think if you enjoyed the score for TRON: Legacy, you'll very much enjoy the score for TRON: Uprising.
