what I hate is shows that HAD a opening theme song and then later seasons ditched them to make room for more adds like ER, and the new Law and Order L.A.

Both Stargate SG1 and Atlantis got rid of their opening themes. But then had to put them back because of fan outrage.

Ironically, the same season Atlantis got rid of their opening, they won the Emmy for best opening.

I agree, but sadly more and more current shows and new shows are doing away from them. I thought it was VERY cool that for ER's last episode they brought back the 'opening credits' but expanded to show the larger cast.

Possibly one reason that theme songs are appearing less and less is that networks shorten the amount of airtime a show can have to increase more time for commercials. So showrunners have a choice either cut footage from the show or trim the opening credits.

Yeah, I have several TV show theme songs as my ringtones, and you can immediately recall what TV show the ringtone belongs to after only a few seconds because they are so recognizable. Sadly, we don't have that anymore. The remake of Hawaii Five-O did bring back one of the best, though.

yeah, I am SO glad that the 'remake' of Hawaii Five-O has the LEGENDARY theme (although it is only 30 seconds long but it still rules!)
