Twilight of Asgard: the SURTUR thread

Interestingly enough here is a look at Surtur in the Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. Loki is impersonating Odin and also uses the Casket of Ancient Winters on Surtur. All of this happens in Asgard and Surtur does change size. A few interesting similarities to what we have been speculating.

Looks fun and it could certainly be taking a few cues from the film.

I played the first one and a good addition now is that they've given Thor the super strength power. In the first one only large characters had that, which felt wrong.

That shot is so cool!!

As a big fan of Surtur i loved what they did with him in this movie.
The way he looked and acted was so cool. And he is a total and insane Beast.

The Muspelheim stuff was epic. It gave me chills. And the rest was just mind blowing to see something like that on the big screen.

I really enjoyed him on screen.
Personally (be strong, those who cannot handle different opinions), I didn't enjoy Clancy' voice here.

Now, I thoroughly enjoy Clancy's voice, it's awesome.
I just didn't want someone like Surtur to sound like a human being I have heard before.

I'm a difficult bastard to please at times, and I thought of Clancy voicing Odin in A:EMH when I heard him here haha.
Would have preferred a more unrecognisable voice or at least more modulated (yes, I know they wanted a name and if you pay for the name you gotta hear/see the name - but not for me this time). I wanted a voice that would shake mountains :D

I really enjoyed Surtur in the film. His design was very good, and Clancy Brown gave him a great voice. I was pleasantly surprised that Surtur was given more to do in the movie than I had expected. Not nearly as much as Hela, obviously, but Surtur still had some very good scenes, and he was visually quite impressive.

The moment when Surtur has the line [blackout]"Asgard, I am your reckoning!"[/blackout] gave me serious chills both times I saw it.

Comparing with Dormammu in DS, Surtur was way cooler in pretty much all aspects. Not to mention that he was featured in quite a lot more and in a more epic way too.

Didn't like Clancy Brown as much as I thought. Always pictured Surtur with more menacing bass in his voice. They should've modulated it.

Also must admit it's a shame we're never getting a more legit Ragnarok story. He's simply a plot device. What a misdirect from the commercials where you're thinking there's gonna be this big battle.

I loved Surtur. I'm a big fan of that character and i really liked how they used him in the movie.
Most of the imagery involving him was epic and how they resolved certain situations was just perfectly done in my book.

I liked Surtur, both the baby version and the full grown Beast version. Thor was at his most powerful here and then you have Hela obviously more powerful and Beast Surtur way above that!

I thought it was a good way to handle the fact that Loki brings on Ragnarok in prophecy.

I like Clancy Brown as Surtur, I didn't think I would but I did.

I'm indifferent towards Surtur, I expect him to appear again so perhaps this was just set up.

I was iffy about that as well, but he mentioned at the beginning:

that he cannot die not until he's fulfilled his purpose and Asgard is destroyed.

Like I said. I'm iffy about it, but I think that's as good of an explanation for Surtur as we will ever get for now.

Let's be honest here. Surtur was a plot device for this film, just like Dormmamu was in Doctor Strange. He wasn't a real character or villain. Thankfully, Hela kind of made up for it.

Hela, The Grandmaster and Surtur. Pretty sweet trio of villains. Each one different and special in it's own way. They kind of complement each other.

I was concerned they were going to "Strucker" him after that opening scene, but he was completely redeemed at the end. A total force of nature on a scale beyond any of the characters were capable of handling. I would love to see a film with him coming to Earth and the Avengers having to stop him. Who needs Galactus? Give me more Surtur!

Agreed more Surtur, I always perferred him to Galactus anyway.

Well that con trailer showed some of Asgard. What looked like Spider-Man swinging around one of their areas. We have also seen the Rocket figure around Asgard stuff. That maybe new Asgard or some Time stone stuff. Surtur would have to be around but I wouldn't want him to be defeated easily for the team to take back what is left of Asgard.

He had me giggling.

His dialogue was PERFECT. I've had a few drinks with an out of state friend tonight so the impulse to swear is extreme right now. All of his lines were so *freaking* perfect.. I saw it tonight again and was giggling like a *freaking* child.
There was one shot
right after his transformation where he is shown from the waste up and given his flame color, and the background,
it was RIGHT from the comics

I love Thor but Surtur in all his glory was my most anticipated part of this film. His demeanor was golden.

Hela was SOO powerful. She could solo the entire Avengers squad with Hulk and Thor and Surtur was literally monologuing and laughing as she attacked him.

"Asgard, I am your reckoning"
