Twilight of Asgard: the SURTUR thread

Oh and by the way that scene where Thor is fighting Surtur is definitely his first form. One can see it because of Thor's look and costume. The "prime" version of Surtur looks way bigger. But it could also be the way the shot is presented.

No Hulk is like half the size of his head. Surtur definitely gets WAYYYYY bigger

My read on it is, Surtur's definitely bigger in the Hulk jumping scene.

If you look at Thor in the first gif, and then imagine him near Surtur's head, even in Thor's hunched over posed he's basically the size of Surtur's entire head,if not larger. And that's him hunched over, really condensing his size so that spinning Mjolnir can cover the majority of him (like how Steve can really curl up behind his shield). If he was standing straight, he'd look massive compared to Surtur's head there.

Hulk is at least 2 feet taller than Thor and to me, certainly looks to only be about the size of Surtur's face (like from the bottom of Surtur's brows/horn plate to Surtur's chin, as opposed to Thor in the first gif looking like he could wrap his arms around the back of Surtur's head and look over the top of his forehead) while also fairly stretched out in his pose.

tldr; Basically what jaqua99 said. Hulk doesn't even span top of forehead to chin there. Whereas imo, in first gif, Thor can engulf Surtur's head if he decided to take a page from Alien and pretend to be a facehugger.

I noticed that too.

And yeh i gotta agree that Surtur looks bigger.

Also it wouldn't make sense for Surtur to get defeated earlier in the film and return at the end at the same.power level.

I find it hard to see mjolnir spinning. I see some sort of motion happening there but it's hard to tell

Huh. So an idea: Surtur with and without the Eternal Flame is like Laufey with and without the Casket of Winters.

Yeh the difference is that Surtur with Twilight and the Eternal Flame is in a hole other level. But in a way both are "objects" the give the bearer an increase of their own capabilities. The difference i guess is that the Eternal Flame is solely a Surtur thing and in theory a much more powerful one giving the strong connection it has with Surtur. The Casket of Ancient Winters could play a big part in the defeat of Surtur since it's something that affects him a lot "intense cold".

Earth - 616
The Eternal Flame has an unknown connection to Surtur. When in its vicinity, Surtur claimed it increased his powers. It is unknown to what extent this power increase leads to.

Superhuman Strength: Surtur possesses incalculable strength.
Living Flame: Surtur is composed of living flame that is strong that he can affect the Earth's temperature.
Pyrokinesis: Surtur can create and manipulate intense heat and flames.
Cosmic Manipulation: Surtur can manipulate cosmic energy for various effects.
Immortality: Surtur is considered to be long-living entity
Telekinesis: Surtur can levitate things using his mind.

I can't wait to have a better look at Surtur in either form. The "prime" form is surely going to be on of the highlights of the movie for me. And I am also very interested in seeing if the "Twilight" sword is going to be featured... i mean it has too. Fire demons where always something that really interested me like the Balrog... Surtur is just going to be the cherry on the cake.

Just to tie back to this, it certainly looks like the Twilight sword is featured in some regard as Surtur is using a large, two-handed sword to fire the flames against Thor.

I love seeing Surtur with Twilight. And i would love to see prime Surtur stomping around Asgard... They have laid the groundwork for this to happen by having his [BLACKOUT]faceplate in Asgard already. [/BLACKOUT] That combined with the Eternal Flame should make my ideal scenario come true. And with that having Odin returning to confront Surtur would be so sweet.

The thing is if Surtur indeed appears in his prime form in Asgard why and how would that ultimately happen. Is Hela somehow defeated and as a last resource she decides "If can't rule over you then i'll destroy you and rule over you souls" kind of situation with her reanimating Surtur by giving him the Eternal Flame.

There's so much epicness to be explored with a prime Surtur.

That scene in the trailer is difficult to make out the setting. Hulk's presence in it suggests Asgard. But hopefully the final battles consists of Aagard, and Team Thor getting wrecked, then Odin returns to turn the tides.

Odin has done nothing in the MCU and should be the most powerful character in the films, besides Dormammu. Lets see i

I also hope Odin shows some epic moves of his own. Odin was indeed keeping a lot of things in check.

Winderbaum explained that "what Thor comes to learn early on is that there's a lot of terrible things in the cosmos that just shouldn't be that way. And we learn that Odin was doing far more than it seemed on the surface to keep the universe safe. That there were all these threats that he had quelled or was keeping at bay, using his strength and power to do so, that Loki was completely unaware, unprepared for."

Odin does suck in the MCU, an embarrassment to one of the most badass characters in Marvel comics. Those little p***y energy blasts from Gungnir are the most he's done and I'm not impressed.

Also I thought Odin was more powerful than Dormmamu in the comics.

He is. But MCU Dormammu may be the most powerful cbm character ever. Legitimately planet consuming

Well Galactus was planet consuming in Rise of The Silver Surfer, Parallax was as well in Green Lantern (I think).

I don't remember Dormmamu doing anything in Doctor Strange other than killing Strange over and over.

Dormmamu gave Kaecilius the power to summon the Dark Dimension to earth and the Hong Kong Sanctum was being Destroyed by the Dark Dimension when Dr. Strange used the Eye of Agamotto with the time gem to reverse everything. He then flew off to take on Dormmamu directly. So, it Definitely felt like Dormmamu would be able to consume or destroy the planet with his Dark Dimension powers.

Surfer

He has. They showed that his power consumes planets.

I found a juicy detail from a brazilian news outlet that was in the Thor Ragnarok set visit. It's the same people that reported the very detailed Comic-Con footage of Surtur... According to them [BLACKOUT]"The heroes were facing a “big monster” in Asgard"[/BLACKOUT].

So my theory pretty is that Hela at some point is probably cornered by our heroes which makes her go like "If i can't have it then i'll burn Asgard to the ground!" and unleashes Surtur with the Eternal Flame.

We already knew they were going to fight a big monster in Asgard, how is the news?

We knew that? How? Because i don't recall any bit of news whatsoever about our heroes fighting a "big monster". I guess Fenris Wolf could be consider that beast but there's still no mention of Surtur being present in the final showdown in Asgard.

The scenes where Thor is fighting inside the throne room in Asgard with Gungnir at 0.15 of the video there are several very powerful objects in the background on the side steps... On the top we see Surtur's faceplate, then just under is the Casket of Ancient Winters, behind it seems to be one of the Infinity Gauntlets and then on the ground there is the "Eternal Flame" with the sign "HOT" on it.

At first i thought it was just a normal fire prop for the throne room but then i realized it is indeed the "Eternal Flame" and it's way to close to Surtur's faceplate for comfort in terms of the threat that is to Asgard. The theory that Hela may bring Surtur to his prime form with his faceplate and the "Eternal Flame" seems to be gaining more steam and also Surtur being in the final showdown just makes me so incredibly happy and excited.

Hemsworth looks kinda small here, nothing near the size he was in the first Thor movie.
