U.N approves Sending 26,000 troops to Darfur

It's just so hard to know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are in these regions. And why people are fighting, and who is best to prevail, and what our actions will cause.

Look at Iraq. We heard about him brutalizing his own people. But look at what it's like with him gone. Saddam had to run Iraq the way he did. He really had no choice. It was the only way to prevent chaos. But we didn't know this.

That's why I say it's hard to know what is best. I'm not saying I think we should sit by and do nothing, but it's important that Americans think like this going into this. Sometimes it's best to use like a Star Trek prime directive. Let these cultures grow and develop without us meddling. It's their struggles and lessons learned from mistakes that can help them grow to become great and prosperous.

Sorry not a big fan of what we're doing in Iraq right now but did you really just say Saddam had no choice but to massacre his own people, because that was the only way?

Look if america had done the job with their original intent (or said intent) and by that I mean dropping off the food we promised and getting the hell out of their way once saddam was ousted I highly doubt the area would be having the same problems as now. You're making it sound like the iraqis are this less evolved race that needs to go though violence before they can become "enlightened". We're all human, no group is better than any other, if we did what we said we were originally there to do we would've left with their thanks and been able to do something about Sudan right now. Violence is happening because of us now. Trust me the Iraqi's don't need any more historical lessons to grow: "It's their struggles and lessons learned from mistakes that can help them grow to become great and prosperous". The middle east has the world record for longest running violence in an area, you see that leading anywhere in the future except to more violence?

I don't think that we should practice neutrality like Switzerland, but I do think that we should be taking a more isolationist role in our foreign affairs.

If the United States weren't bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan, they would no doubtedly ask us for help. But we are so chances are that they won't.

Sad but true. That's why I think that this UN force is going to be the one just like Rwanda. They'll do very little to help and when it gets tough, they'll pull most of the peacekeepers out of harm's way.

Unfortunately, without the United States, the United Nations is one gigantic *****.

I've got no problem with keeping NATO allies and what no but I for one have seen enough of us being the UN's lackey whenever they need to get rid of some dictator or stop some genocide, and you're right, without the United States assistance the UN is basically helpless.

All the more reason we should be part of this. If there's to be any hope of a succesful end to the genocide in Sudan, the UN will need to not be shortstaffed.

This is far from true-
Remember ,Dallaire and the Canadians peacekeeping forces were the only ones willing to even TRY to do something in Rwanda

i'm confused. the united states wants to be a world super power (currently the only one), but they don't want to accept the responsibility of leading the world by example and helping other countries in dire need? seems rather selfish to me.
